Whilst Riga isn't the most obvious destination for a city break, if you visiting the Baltic countries - it's worth checking out for sure. Let me know what other city guides you'd like to see next? 👇
Great video, as usual. Well done. I loved a cheeky visit to Aberdeen last year. Don't know if you've alreay done a video on that. Was good. Aberdeen Old Town with the cathedral, and King's College, and old bridge was a surprise. It's a great UK city break.
Thanks! Believe it or not, whilst I've driven around Scotland many times before - Aberdeen is a city I've never been to. I'll probably go at some point - most likely if I'm doing a tour of the NC500.
It's an interesting place for sure, but I probably wouldn't make a special trip to see Riga. If you tie it in with a trip to Tallinn and Helsinki, it's totally worth it. :)
Hello Ninh! I can agree that Riga is a very nice place! As a Latvian native, I can address a few things. 1. The reason why Riga is under so much construction is because of the ongoing Rail Baltica project, which is meant to integrate the Baltics in the European rail network. 2. Finding free public toilets is a real problem, unfortunately. 3. The price of food and drink in Riga is kind of inflated, but outside of Riga or any of the major Latvian cities, the prices are cheaper. 4. If I had recommend other Latvian cities or towns to visit, I would recommend for example Cesis, which is considered the birthplace of the Latvian flag, Kuldiga, home of the widest waterfall in Europe: the Venta Rapid, Jurmala, Latvia’s most popular resort city, Sigulda, known for it’s famous bobsled track and cable car, which goes over the Gauja River, Ventspils, which has a lot of cows around the city (not real cows, of course) and Liepaja, the music capital of Latvia.
😀Thanks again for your comments. 1) Ah, that does explain it. I did wonder why there was so much of it going on at the same time? 2) It was a little surprise to find that there are no free toilets in places where there usually are. 3) I did find that food was inflated in restaurants and stuff like that, but small shops and supermarkets were no different to anywhere else in Europe. 4) That's good to know - I'd love to come back and explore more of your country!
there are some free public bathrooms in some rīga supermarkets or shopping centers, you gotta know the locations to stay safe. at least i know that there are free ones in two gallery shopping centers. there are some in the parks as well but im not sure if they are cleaned as often as the shopping center ones and there are more options in shopping centers if one or two happen to be dirty
this video brings back memories of my past..haha..I hope I can visit Rīga again... beautiful memories of being there in the winter.. btw, did you visit the Three Brothers Building? 🇱🇻🇱🇻🇱🇻
The weather is pleasant in April, not too hot, not too cold. You might get some rain, but it's an easy city to walk around, so it shouldn't matter if it does. Be sure to share this video if you found it helpful. Hope you enjoy Riga! 🙂
Do not go to Latvia for seaside tourism!!!. Latvian police set traps for unsuspecting tourists and issue fines from 100 to 1000 euros for violations of the "protected zone", although there are no boundaries from where to it, no signs and information boards that it is a protected zone.
What a great way to show and present a city. Nice atmosphere in the video, to the point and overall informative. Not like a lot of other channels that film themselves 80% of the video instead of showing and explaining the actual attractions! Subscribed 😊
Thank you very much! 🙂 Yes, my travel guides are to the point, helpful and geared towards helping a traveller navigate a new city or experience. Sadly too many RU-vid travel videos are vloggers showing mainly themselves, people who make 'travel guides' that have clearly never been there, or AI generated robo-rubbish. I'm glad I'm not one of the above. Thanks for subscribing also!
I truly appreciate how you give detailed information about travel from the airport into the city. Not to mention how great you do your videos altogether. Very informative. Great job
I appreciate that! I try and be as helpful as I can so that someone watching this video will have an easy time navigating around the place. Glad you enjoyed this video and thank you for subscribing and watching my channel!
Hi Ninh, I just wanted to say that watching this video and also your video about Tallinn made me decide to come here. I’m in Riga now and really enjoying it and I’m flying to Tallinn tomorrow. Thanks for inspiring me to come here
Ah fantastic! I hope you enjoy both cities. Tallinn was my favourite out of the two places, let me know what you think of it? Happy to hear that my videos inspire you to go to these places yourself. 🙂
@@UltimateBucketList Hi again Ninh, I’m in Tallinn now and I’ve really enjoyed it here as well. I can’t really decide if I preferred Riga or Tallinn, as I’ve loved them both, they’re similar yet at the same time quite different. I’d describe Riga, old town as nice and flat and looking like a perfectly gift wrapped chocolate box, whereas Tallinn old town is more hilly and higgledy piggledy and looks like something straight out of a Robin Hood film. But I enjoyed your videos and they really helped me to plan my itinerary in both cities and thanks again. I would now like a trip to Lithuania as well, to see the 3rd Baltic capital Vilnius, so that’s one for the future
@@MrWelshJoe incidentally, I was supposed to go to Vilnius on that same trip, but realised I couldn't actually fly home from there. I decided to postpone it until I can make another trip out there where it's not so logistically difficult, possibly tie it in with Berlin. Glad you liked both cities and found these guides helpful in planning your trips. Until the next one!🙂
Bloody love your videos! Always give me inspiration because you make everything so clear and have done the hard research for us! Keep up the great work!
Thank you! Yes, I find that the hardest part of travelling is not knowing what to expect and the stress of figuring out how to get around. I try and make these videos to eliminate those two problems. Happy this inspires you to visit for yourself!
Thanks! I prefer Tallinn for sure, it's a lot easier to navigate, the people are friendlier, it's cheaper and there's more things to do. Riga wasn't bad at all, but out of the two - I'd love to visit Tallinn again.
Whilst it's probably not the most obvious city destination, it's still a pretty charming place to visit. I'd recommend visiting this, Tallinn and Vilnius in one trip for sure.
I laughed hard when you recommended not staying in Pārdaugava (across the river from the old town). Because even though I think Pārdaugava has a lot of interesting stuff to see, it pales in comparison to what's in the old town and I really don't mind keeping the tourists out of the spots my friends hang around in
You're welcome! I hope this gives you an insight as to what Riga is about. I can understand why you'd want to avoid Paris, but Rome is stunning and it definitely is worth the trip. See my other video here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-UUA2XKmCSGs.html
My equipment that I used at the that time includes: Cellphone Camera: Samsung Galaxy Ultra S22 Ultra Main Camera: Sony A7R III Drone: DJI Air 2S However, I've upgraded all my equipment recently.
Thank you for this video. While I am a very different kind of tourist (museums all day long, lol), you gave a lot of practical information that will make my stay in Riga easier!
Nicely done. I am moving to Latvia to live and teach for a year. I'll be in Daugavpils, but hope to visit Riga as often as practical. Your video provided a helpful primer.
You truly have the best travel videos. We just got back from Tallinn and Riga two days ago. We found your guide to these two cities amazingly useful. We watched them both several time before leaving. They are informative, easy to understand and to the point. Great job! Please keep them coming.
Again, thank you very much! Sometimes I think whether this is all worth it for the few views I get on my videos, but reading comments like yours keeps me going. And as always - be sure to help me out by sharing this video. Thanks again 🙂
Thanks Ninh, going here in a few weeks and looking forward to it even more now - you’re guide gave us so much more information than others have and we love the format ! We’ll be following you for other cities - take care man 👍🍺
Appreciate that! I hope you have an amazing time in Riga and I'm happy that my video helps you plan your trip. Yes, please subscribe and check out my videos on other European cities. 🙂
I'm sure I will at some point, either if work takes me there or I go and finally do the NC500 (which I've been wanting to do for years). It's on the list, for sure!
Even better, please don't wear an England shirt as it will just spoil it haha, but the nc500 is lovely I'm from the highla ds so aye definitely worth doing, but so is the North east coastal trail got peterhead prison museum
You're welcome! I'm happy that these videos help you plan your Baltic trip. I think you'll enjoy Tallinn the most, I certainly did. Any questions, let me know 🙂
@@UltimateBucketListif you said so, is Riga worth a visit from Tallinn? If I decide to go Riga, should I give it one and half days or two and half days since the early bus will take 4.5 hrs. Thanks again Ninh.
@@chckzchck if you can only do one of these two cities, Tallinn is the one that you'll enjoy the most - there's more to do and it's cheaper and easier to navigate around. You can do most of Riga in a single day, so 2.5 days is too long. If you can do both, you can just about cover everything in Tallinn in 2 days (3 days is also okay), and everything in Riga in 1 day. Hope that helps?
Hello Ninh. Could you go back to turf moor to do a stadium tour as I hear it comes highly reccomended and you should check out the newly renovated jimmy mcilroy suite
