I have the AA-1500 ZOOM. I like placing the unit in SWR mode and move my mag-mounts around on my crew cab vehicle. I was surprised when testing 146MHz, my short (18") mag-mount was lowest on the rear of the cab while my longer (42") dual band Comet had lowest numbers in the middle of the cab. The SWRs for both were in the 1.2-1.3 range. I only use the longer antenna when stationary. The available free software is very easy to use. 73, W1RKB

Nice video on the RigExpert AA-2000! Sort of reinforces why I don't use haystacks.....always adjusting. I have a video on using a 17' Stainless whip....one antenna....quick predetermined adjustment....good to go.

Thank you VERY much for telling me about this new mode, the LC Meter, that has definitely convinced me! I am absolutely going to have to purchase one of these. I just can't do without it. Thanks luv! 🤜🏻👍🤛🏻♡♡♡

It costs about 10 hundred million thousand dollars - but that is still a LOT lower cost than my Vector Network Analyzer. This is an excellent premium product and the price is totally appropriate for what it does.

I’d like to get one of those RigExpert antenna analyzers one day. A different model though. I don’t need up to 2000 MHz.

IMHO : the answer is YES. I have owned and used various RigExpert AA's and for me they are the best. My current AA is the AA-600 and use it very often in the shack and in the field for my experiments. Good quality build and can be used in the outdoors without a problem and it has never let me down. And what a lot of people forget is that the RigExpert AA's can be use for 25, 50, 75, 100, 150, 200, 300, 450 & 600-Ohm out of the box (pre-calibrated). For now I don't need a upgrade to the AA-2000 but I hope they will make a AA-2500 so it could be use on the 13cm band (2.4GHz). For that I now use a 3GHz NanoVNA but hate the ergonomics of it and a laptop in the field to get a bigger display isn't my idea of having a fun field day. Will a $10K professional VNA or SA with quality bridge be better? Oh probably, but you don't carry that around all day and use it out there in the field. But remember, for most of us hamradio is a hobby and most of us are on a budget. When you are making money with RF like installing mobile phone sites, up-/down-links, wifi bridges, etc. we are talking about investment in quality tools to make money and probably need periodic calibration with certificates etc. Summary : good video and enjoy the AA-2000 and you field-day. Have fun, that's what this hobby is all about. 73 to you and yours, and stay safe. Lex PH2LB

I got several MFJ hamstick units and enjoy tuning them with my AA55 Zoom. On your failed hamstick, I seem to remember the manual warning about inserting the stick too deep within the coil. From the video it seems to me that could be the issue here. Miguel AG5WG, 73

loved the video. I would love a video about all the info that machine tells you and how to interpret it all.

How do these things work at a crowded site? Could I do measurements on a backup antenna at a 50,000 am transmitter site with the main antenna radiating 50,000 watts? If not, how far would I have to back the transmitter off to not disturb, or burn up this instrument? Or would I just have to turn the transmitter off?

Most antennas will have multiple low set locations. A two mtr 1/4 wave is also resonant on 440. Set your sweep range to something like 3 MHz.

@HamRadio2 3 года назад
True but 14MHz should be one of them on a 20M Hamstick

Since it doesn't quite reach the next ham band above 23 cm, is there really any advantage over the AA-1400 or 1500 for hams?

Likely not

Maybe you could have used the TDR mode. It might have shown an "open" in the Ham Stick.

Honestly, I dont see much of a need by amateurs, however, it amateurs are truly into building and testing then a used VNA from ebay would be a much better choice for the price, I would put my $900 used HP VNA against this this thing any day. its like when I see some one put a HT near their $20 SDR spectrum and talk about harmonics, totally different when you use a real spectrum analyzer

@@HamRadio2 It does look sturdier than my NanoVNA, but then I could buy ten NanoVNAs and still have enough left for half a dozen new 20m hamsticks for what that RigExpert costs. If the thing has some quality to it that's actually worth paying almost _$1,000_ more, I'd love to hear about it.

Relative to what? The features list and ease of use are truly outstanding.

@@kenhagler7166 The RigExpert line is much, much more than just an Analyzer. It measures coax loss, does multi-mode, can measure impedance, reactance, can now measure coils...and unlike the NanoVNA, you can see it in the sunlight. It is just an overall better unit, and if you care for it, it will last you for the rest of your life. I never compared it the NanoVNA, understand. You did that. But saying it costs too much just shows you aren't looking at the complete feature list of each unit.
