Are you 'left brain' or 'right brain'? Do you know the difference?
Keep practicing with our FREE Brain Tune Course: memory.foundati...
You've probably heard that people are supposed to be one or the other and, in a way, there is some evidence that each of the two hemispheres of the brain tend to be activated for different kinds of tasks.
Your Right brain for things that engage your your creative side and Left brain for actions that require reasoning and logic. A 'Right-brain' person tends to be more relaxed, artistic, spontaneous and imaginative.
A 'Left brain' person is often busy, systematic, notices details and has an orderly, common-sense approach to life.
But the truth is, of course, that EVERY memory task works better if ALL areas of the brain are used.
This exercise helps you practise using both sides of the brain. Try it several times!
To find out more about Right brain, Left brain, check out 'Seven Second Memory: Memory techniques that will change your life' by Gillian Eadie and Dr. Allison Lamont. You'll find out too why 'seven seconds' is so important to your memory and thinking! memory.foundati...
And while you're there, you'll find the box to get your personal, three-day brain training course, Brain Tune, completely free.

Hi Mohammed - no, it isn't 'cheating' to not read the word - that is your brain creating a shortcut for you. Once your brain knows the information that is important to you, it creates that magic shortcut. The more you practice your brain exercises, the more efficient your brain becomes. Great point!

That's the best way to be, George! Your brain works much more effectively if you are engaging BOTH sides in all that you do ..... that's why cross-over exercises are important. When you cross an arm or a leg across your body, you are activating neurons that don't expect you to be doing that. Making big 'lazy eight' circles with either hand is great practice!

If any of you found this exercise effortless at an age younger than 60-70, that's normal. Be grateful and RESPECTFUL and act with calm, rational maturity. Those are functions of the brain too. Many of you FAILED that part of the test. Behavior and self control are a brain function and problem too. These are tests for people who are having problems with their functioning perhaps. Beginning stages of dysfunction that needs to be recognized as early as possible in order to treat properly. Memory and simple tests help determine things like dementia, Alzheimer's and combination thereof and even brain trauma issues like a stroke or concussion. 🙏 Harvard Medical School's "A Comprehensive Update Virtual Conference 2021" participant thanks you for your channel and service.

Glad you found it that way, Emily. Older folk can sometimes find it quite hard to do so that's why we put up the exercise for practice. did you try remembering all of the cats' names and where they live? That might be more of a challenge for you!

i love the website. i needed exercises for left brain for my child 5 yr. in this video shown I asked him to read the word, he did that. after 3 or 4 i asked him to just tell the color and not to read the word, he precisely told each color of word without difficulty.

Why, when I read the word ,I can picture the color in my mind,does it mean that is working.
@BrainandmemoryfoundationOrg
@BrainandmemoryfoundationOrg 8 лет назад
+Christian Gutierrez Hello Christian, Yes, it is working well. but of course, for this exercise, you need to suppress the colour that reading the word tells you it is, and concentrate on the colour you can see - have I explained that clearly? It is complicated but your brain knows what to do! Thank you for trying ....

+qweryuiopas39 Well done! I am guessing you might be under 60 or 70 years of age??? Some people, as they get older, find this exercise quite a challenge. But keep up your brain exercises and you might be one of the lucky ones who find their brain stays sharp right into older age. Did you try remembering the faces and locations? That's an exercise for short-term memory. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-WojLCe9j_84.html

I guess I have been using both sides of my brain, because i'm normally right handed, but now I can use both hands to do most things. No wonder I've been becoming more creative, but I don't want to just be artistic, I also want to be smart and neat. That's why I want to be an artist, actress, singer dancer and a writer. That's great news, Britton. It means you are already using all areas of your brain and that you can suppress irrelevant information easily. Did you find that it became a bit harder, though, towards the end of the exercise? Most people find this because your cognitive resources become 'tired' the more you ask your brain to carry out quite complex operations over a period of time. Did you try the other exercises?

Focus tightly,not looking at the word,or letters. Focus only between the border lines of the first figure, character, number or whatever irrelevant feature if the test.and you will not have the issue's or struggles of information over load. Try it .ill bet you can snap the colors out correctly so fast you will amaze yourself .

A brain exercise tip. Get a mini camcorder. Go outside and slowly walk around the block while the camcorder is recording. When you get back to your starting point go back into the house and review first what you remembered in as minute detail as possible. Write it all down in a notebook. Draw a map. Then review what you recorded to see what you did and didn't recall. Do this for seven days. Then repeat the whole procedure walking the other way round. Then the next block over. In this way you use words, images, spatial memory, concepts, regular memory, imagination, ..etc. In short; your whole brain. To make it more challenging try to recall the last thing you viewed first and work forward to the first thing you recalled last. Be sure to record your experience with all your senses. Flowers, color shape, size, numbers, fragrant, what taste they remind you of, what sound they remind you of...etc. Good luck.
@BrainandmemoryfoundationOrg
@BrainandmemoryfoundationOrg 9 лет назад
MrPanetela A great exercise! It is astonishing how much we 'miss' because we can focus on only a few sensations at a time. The incoming information from eyes, ears, nose, finger tips and even tongue can be overwhelming for your brain so it chooses what to store. Thank you for an excellent tip.

I just start learning piano ,I found it really difficult to use my hands at the same time to play the sheet music .can you please explain more about the reason ? And if are we able to activated other part our brain and use both side at the same time ? and dose age affect or not ? ( my age is 28 )
@GillianEadie
@GillianEadie 8 лет назад
+K2 FAR Well done on learning the piano! That's a very complex task for your brain that is requiring your neural pathways to understand the music on both lines, interpret the notation and timing of the notes and then to apply this understanding to two different hands! Your brain has to keep track of the hands doing different things while at the same time as holding the tune. It is even more complicated than patting your head with one hand and rubbing the belly with the other at the same time! It takes practice, practice, practice until some of the processes can develop a short-cut in the brain as it becomes a more automatic process. People much older than you will take longer to master the skill but I am sure you will be fine!
