Pete Docter: Dis- I mean, WE believe that the whole reason why our films haven't been doing well financially is because they're too personal for a broad audience to relate to, and totally not due to all our original, personal films being released on streaming. I mean, it's not like people consider Soul an emotional powerhouse, Luca and Turning Red charming slice of life films, or Elemental a cute enough love story! Those films have no positive reception whatsoever and totally wouldn't have made their money back if they went to theaters! So we're going to be releasing even more cash cow- uh, I mean totally needed sequels! Because I'm sure the reason why Inside Out 2 is doing so well is because it's a sequel and not because we put real passion in and wanted to give the first film continuation! Yep. This decision to make a bunch of sequels that no one asked for isn't going to haunt for the rest of our careers at all. Please see Elio and Hoppers guys! Please show this company that they're being dumb! That you DO still want to see original stuff from us! Please! Our integrity depends on it!

@@kylemorello4787 This rant is very correct, but seems a bit off-topic. My whole point literally was that Disney overall sucks and Pxar usually does their best not to give in to Disney's antics(Pixar tries to actually *care* about their films, which is why their films typically perform better; but Disney keeps sabotaging them as best the can because they're bitter and blind as to *why* Pixar's projects are so well received, but Pixar [fortunately] has in their contracts that Disney isn't allowed to change and/or interfere with their writing processes[unfortunately, they seem to have been the only company that Disney bought who thought to do so until the recent Doctor Who series who thankfully did the same])

I'm not sure which Inside Out I like more, but I do like how this one experiments with giving Riley autonomy as a person rather than having the emotions control everything, and the things she deals with feel more relatable. And yeah, I would actually like to see even more sequels that tackle more mature concepts, graduating high school, dating, going to college, etc., as long as the filmmakers maintain the consistent level of care and attention.

45:26 this is what hit me especially hard in theaters. the harsh breathing, the heart pounding, the bouncing of the leg, and anxiety just scrambling to try and stop the emotions and bad thoughts from hitting Riley. I bursted out in tears. this was the most realistic animated portrayal of an anxiety attack. I felt like I was watching myself on screen, and then seeing anxiety create a literal spiral of emotion, I was sobbing seeing myself in an animated character. what a beautiful scene 🥹

Yeah, a lot of people, including myself were a bit concerned that they were going to make Joy learn the same thing she learned in the last movie or just tell the same story again but thankfully they didn't do that and the made something that stands on par with the original! The crazy thing is, we are taught to bottle up those base emotions by the time we enter our teen years. Show too much joy and you’re childish. Show too much fear or sadness and you’re weak. Show too much disgust (or discomfort/aversion) and you’re a narrow-minded prude. Anger… well, that’s interpreted differently depending on your gender assignment at birth. Anxiety, envy, embarrassment, and boredom all feed the need to upgrade-change your look, act differently, buy the latest things. When we’re just staring to learn who we really are, we’re pressured to choose who we’re going to be and given examples to model ourselves after. That’s the illusion of self-discovery linked with coming of age. The big epiphany hits later: That’s the lifeboat I found in a storm, not my ship, not my land.

I think this is the best disney movies I seen in years if I'm honest and was defintely better than Wish. I've dealt with anixtey a few times when I was a teen, still do and had depression all last year because of this guy never leaving me along and poking me in the side real hard and he was also following me around all the time. but anyway.......I loved your reaction!!! I've been itching for this reaction for the past week and you made me so happy. But for what you said, "If people don't love Saddness...then I don't trust them" I was like, "THANK YOU!" Also don't worry about when Joy said "Valentino" I didn't hear an A in the name either. And I've seen this twice in cinema (one time by myself and one time with my family) so I get it. But great reaction! Loved it!

With what you said Joy to be coded lesbian makes you wonder how that reflects on Riley herself as well as the other emotions. Especially if she has emotions of both male and female unlike every other character we’ve seen. I can imagine it either means she’s probably gender-fluid or the writers thought it would be interesting for her emotions to be consisted of both male and female emotions.

Yes, I am a 20 something who sees childhood things on the internet and gets nostalgic about it. But do you know the psychic damage of a child seeing it and then telling you that it's old?? I love the Inside Out movies so much they honestly portray a lot of psychological things in such an accessible and fun way! But they also make me cry. As a person with anxiety, this one hit almost too close to home lol "Everything feels like a big deal then" YEP. That was one of my favorite things they did, was not shy away from the fact that when you're a teenager things tend to feel way out of proportion all. the. time. Everything is a huge deal, everything is life or death, and then you look back on it and go "wow, dramatic much little me?" But it's not even wrong, those things are a big deal, it's just the reaction to them during puberty/before you properly develop more is exaggerated. Completely unrelated, I really like the shirt you're wearing in this video!
