I set up this tent on my Silverado. It was very easy . The tent is roomy and super nice. The rain fly is also very easy to set up❤️

That is awesome! So glad you enjoy it as much as we do! We have been very happy with it so far. I just made a tent stove and found a roof kit to install it in any tent for the stove pipe to go through. Check out the tent stove video too and when I get a chance to try it out I'll post that video as well! See you outdoors! 😉

I honestly do enjoy it and it works great for what I wanted. The extra space and place for my dog is crucial and this fit the bill perfect. I also like that it doesn't need the truck so if I choose to use it as a free standing tent that works well too!

Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it! I do like this set up and has proven to be quite a asset to our set up. Also is nice that it can be a free standing tent for times you can't get the truck/suv close enough to where you want to camp! It is a bit heavy so not best for hiking, but you get the idea! 😉

I bought one used from REI for $108. I don't think it was ever used, because it appeared to be in pristine condition. No dust or anything on it or in it. The pockets, where you fit the ridge pole were nearly impossible! It took 3 adults to get it, and I was afraid the whole time of tearing it. Was also hard to fit the other poles. The site was hard gravel, and the stakes bent when we hammered them, so we didn't stake it. That night, there were wind gusts up to 30MPH. I'm hoping that wind helped stretch those tight spots out. I really despised the sleeves that kept catching on the poles. I still like the tent, but I did learn some lessons. 1: I'm older than I remembered being. 2: A 2009 CRV cannot be opened by the hatch from the inside. Keep your shoes in the car with you, or you may have to walk barefoot in 28 degrees in wind, around to the tent. A chemical toilet CAN be blown over inside a tent. Many more things. Still like the tent; it's got orange trim! Oh, and I'm gonna have to buy a van...

Agreed. The poles are way too difficult to get in the pockets without tearing!

It is nice your door is off to the side. Our SUV tent has the door in the very back. This makes it an awkward set up in a camping space. You want your vehicle level to sleep in, and you want to walk out of the tent and see the camp fire. Not squeezing out with half a foot before the end of the camp site. Where we have gone, there have been slight inclines at the entrance to each site, so these set ups a bit of a pain. Side door would solve that.
@overlanderbenny3789
@overlanderbenny3789 3 года назад
That is a great point! I really wish the door opened off to the side instead of falling to the floor. A zip across the bottom and attached permanent on the side would prevent it from being walked on at least. But I definitely see why the side door would be preferable!

I’m vertically challenged as well and do the centre pole first, used mine winter camping and for my hunting camp. Fire extinguisher would be a good idea I use a mr heater in my tent.

I have a extinguisher in my canopy right by the door easy to reach! I also use a Mr heater in mine. Haven't been "winter" camping in it but pretty cold a few times and the little buddy just in enough! Lol

I noticed you have vice grips attached to the shocks on your hatch. Do you have to limit how high the latch goes? I have a Silverado and it has big tires, I was not sure if the hatch height is a problem.
@overlanderbenny3789
@overlanderbenny3789 Год назад
No that just happens to be about the 3rd set of shocks I have had on the canopy (no fault of the tent as was before I even had it) so I gave up and use vice grips. Lol

any suggestions for getting the canopy pole in the pocket? I was hoping to watch you do that. I struggled for an hour to get the center pole in the pocket and couldn't do it on my own.
@overlanderbenny3789
@overlanderbenny3789 2 года назад
Agreed. Very tight and frustrating. I actually tore mine a bit trying the first time. Try doing the Ridge pole first possibly if y9u aren't already. I usually put one end in and then bow the pole as much as possible before putting it in the pocket. It's still a struggle though and something I wrote in a review to them....

@Michael-ym4qh there are brackets bolted to the canopy and the bars lock on the brackets with a key. Unfortunately does require holes in the canopy.

Do you think this would work for a suv that the trunk opens sideways instead of up
@overlanderbenny3789
@overlanderbenny3789 3 года назад
I think if the door swung to the passengers side it would be fine! However, if it went to the drivers side it could very well block a portion of the tent doorway. As for my jeep wrangler, which tire and gate swing to the passenger side, I would say it would work Fantastic! Good luck!

Thanks so much Benny for the video- this is exactly what I have been looking for for my Tacoma! I wanted to ask you - how does it hold in cold weather with snow? Does it need a lot of reinforcement? I am thinking about buying the tent replacing one of the doors to fit a stove pipe and heating the bed sleeping area(and the tent with a wood burning stove ... (or Mr Buddy Heater) thanks again for the great video!
@overlanderbenny3789
@overlanderbenny3789 4 года назад
Thank you for watching! I have not been under snow load as of yet, but when installed properly it seems to hold out the weather quite well! As for cold, well, it is a nylon tent. I sleep in my canopy though with the tailgate down and I have only gotten real cold once. Luckily I have a 12 volt electric blanket! Haha! Bottom line, For the price, I really enjoy it.

Hi Benny, I found this tent on Amazon and did some research and found this video. I am a 5”2 woman. Do you think I could put this up myself? I will be using this with my Honda CRV, using the tent for storage, and sleeping in my vehicle. My door opens sideways. Do you think that would be a problem with this type of tent? Thank you for the informational video.
@overlanderbenny3789
@overlanderbenny3789 3 года назад
I do think you could put it up yourself with some practice. It's not easy with one person, but I do it myself every time. The height shouldn't be too big of a issue. I'm 5'6" myself, so no giant! I would definitely do a couple test runs to get the hang of it before heading out! It does take a bit ti set up, but I have it down to less than 10 minutes now. Good luck!

Any suggestions on what to do with the lights, and not ending up with a drain battery? Thank you
@overlanderbenny3789

I personally have a goal zero solar generator that I use for a my lighting, cell charging, stereo plug in....I can charge that with the solar panel on my roof or with the cigarette lighter in the truck when it's running. I also use battery powered lights often, and they work great as well! Thank you for watching!

How's the durability beyond the 10 uses when this video was made?? The tear point you noted is concerning.
@overlanderbenny3789
@overlanderbenny3789 2 года назад
So far not bad, no more tearing. I take my time more now though and make sure I don't over stretch or snag anything. As long as I'm careful I haven't had any more issues with seams. Thank you for watching!

Hey Benny what's going on, cool video. But I have to ask what stops the rain from running off your cap into your tent? Is that an issue?
@overlanderbenny3789
@overlanderbenny3789 4 года назад
I have not had that issue as of yet! It seems to seal pretty well if I have it directly on the top, and if not, there's a lip on the canopy the rain catches and runs down. Unfortunately if I don't have the tent on right at that point, it will drip on the tent floor. That being said, I've got it down well enough now that we rarely get any water inside.

How do you keep mosquitoes out .looks like a lot of ways for them to get in .
@overlanderbenny3789
@overlanderbenny3789 2 года назад
It has a cord to tighten around the back of the SUV to keep it snug against the vehicle. There is also an elastic around there that is usually sufficient so far. My biggest problem with mosquitoes is if I open the door for a split second! I really wish the door could zip from the bottom up and remain attached on the side instead of it falling on the floor when opened.
@jamesgibbs8827
@jamesgibbs8827 3 года назад
Apparently it's Not bug proof?? Or snake proof?? Just asking before I purchase one . TY.
@overlanderbenny3789
@overlanderbenny3789 3 года назад
Oh for sure I would say it is either! The back comes up to the bottom of the bumper or close. So definitely can't see a snake or bugs getting in there. The part that goes around the SUV or truck has a multitude of ways to "seal" it up from bugs by making it snug around the vehicle. The door and windows have screens like a normal tent, and if you use it as a free standing tent, you can also zip up the hatch completely. I would say it is every bit as snake and big proof as any other tent I have owned! Thank you for the question!

Any issues with rodents
@overlanderbenny3789
@overlanderbenny3789 3 года назад
Not yet! But I also have a dog with me so possibly the scent is helping there as well. It will seal up pretty well around the suv with the elastic and straps provided, so you shouldn't have a problem making it rodent proof. (Other than they could chew through I suppose...)

Low quality material leaks instantly with rain storm
@overlanderbenny3789
@overlanderbenny3789 2 года назад
Were you using the rain fly? Possibly spray it with camp dry or similar? Although I've oy had mine in the rain a couple times, and I would say those were "storms" really, I didn't have any issues with leaks. That's unfortunate and hopefully you can get it solved! Thanks for watching!
