Chuck Nordell well said. Gene Le Bell has said he learned the Double wrist lock from Karl Gotch. Gene who's in his 80's has trained in Judo in Japan and United states in many schools thru out his career. Gene has always given credit to the Pro Wrestlers for teaching him certain finishing holds. You would think with a credible Martial Artist like Gene that he would give credit to Judo for learning the Double wrist lock aka Kimura technique.
@superlyger funny thing was Kimura was taught the double wrist lock later to be known as the kimura by Karl Gotch. These days that move should be renamed the Sakuraba.
@BakaYaru13 actually it is claimed by Masahiko that the match between him and Rikidozan was ment to be staged and was the first of what was supposed to be several matches to raise a fanbase for the union of thier wrestleing federations.. But that Rikidozan started hitting Masahikio for real because he was greedy and eventually knocked Kimura out.. Later Masahiko got a call from Yakuza that said they were going to kill Rikidozan.. Not much later Riki was stabbed and died a week later.
Kimura made a bad kick, rikidozan took it too far and went off on kimura, kimura thought it was still fake and just alittle improve thus he accepted the beating until it was too late. Rikidozan should not have done what he did but later on, he was stabbed to death by yakuza because of the match
Kimura talked too much crap and got beat up fair and square so hush up that Kimura didn't realize it was a shoot until it was too late. I'm sure you'd know the difference between a work punch and a shoot punch and then several of them coming. 😂
@superlyger from what i've read on his bio he met Gotch in 1950 the year before he fought Helio, while they were wrestling for Rikidozan and he learned Catch as can Catch wrestling.
Riki trick kimura by his every day WWE move, kimura believed that riki was just acting, like other game,so he is helping riki's move, but then riki is not stopping
@panther2552 the double wristlock is a staple of Judo known as the UDE GARAMI. The application is identical to the catch applications. FYI Kimura knew this submission long before he met Karl Gotch in the 60s. He actually broke Helio Gracies arm with this hold- a full decade before he met Gotch. Gotch also trained extensively in Judo, and admired the sport.
@@bpnk5237 yes he did- Kimura’s dojo. His wife had to wash blood off of the Gi. Also Gotch lived in Japan and cross trained extensively. His style is not simply from Wigan.
@@superlyger gotch lived in japan and trained japanese wrestlers in catch wrestling, i have studied his bio and no proof of him training in judo, but yes catch was a hybrid wrestling system that derived from many martial arts and wrestling style.
@@bpnk5237Matt Furey mentions this at the Saylor Dojo. You can email Matt Furey who was in Gotch’s company. Did you know that Karl Gotch studied pehelwani? He also knew yoga and Savate. Gotch Cross trained extensively. He even said he likes Sambo. Gotch wasn’t just a catch wrestler. Hence, he and Inoki are considered the fathers of Shoot Wrestling.
@@bpnk5237 "I was so glad when Karl quit going to judo and jiu-jitsu. It was so hard washing everyone else’s blood from his gi every night." - Ella Istaz, Gotch's wife
Kimura lost at the quarrel which Kimura started. However, so much. In a ring top, results are all. Whatever the rest may say, it becomes only an "excuse." Kimura was only weeded out through natural selection of Pro-Wrestling.
@BakaYaru13 Actually you are wrong. Professional Wrestling was still staged back then and in fact, Kimura said the match was originally supposed to be a draw but Rikidozan broke their plan and surprise attacked him for real at the end and knocked him unconscious.
Kimura looks like he was still in impressive shape, he looks like an athlete, not someone that lifts weights to look good. In real life Kimura would have killed him.
Even this terrible thing happen,if u study more about kimura u will love him,his good nature his strengh, riki never accept 2ndmatch cuz he is coward and cheater
@exe2517 According to Kimura's Biography The Kimura Rikidozan matches were to be draws. And that this particular match was a shoot due to Rikis greed. Kimura was stunned and suprised. Yes he did get in to Pro Wrestling for the money and to possibly afford treatment for his wife.
Oddly, they do shake hands (and Kimura appears to bow his head) after this fight. So I wonder. I don't think Kimura admitted (even privately) being involved in the killing. It could simply have been some one who deciding to defend Kimuras pride (without telling him first).
And john riki bully his people alot, exmple Inoki he was treat it like garbage, not just him there is so many people confess how riki is terrible person.
Unfortunate of kimura is, he trust rikidozan, kikura had korian friend like ooyama but he is good person, not like rikidozan, and likes of u,korian boy.
RIKIDOZAN double crossed Kimura in the last minute. This suprised Kimura. He was obviously stunned and the match went to the very greedy RIKIDOZAN. Bare in mind that Kimura handily beat Helio, and also defeated the then much younger and bigger Brazilian Vale Tudo fighter Waldemar Santana.. Someone who would have killed a Rikidozan, who Lou Thesz said was an OK wrestler. Not a Karl Gotch, Billy Robinson, or a Bad News Allen.
actually. if you actually watch the whole video, you'll see Kimura kicking Riki in the groin. I am pretty sure that part wasn't part of the plan. A low blow should be punished. So who betrayed who? Kimura saw that coming. Glad he got a beating. Justice served
Judo against someone who isnt wearing kimono and is heavy af is struggle + he is wrestler no way he will let himself get in position to be threw by Kimura
Unlike now, professional wrestling of those days is quite primitive. Half earnest, a half got-up affair. It might change earnest from the fake affair by the feeling at that time and audience.
Kimura and riki if they did real fight not WWE kimura will kick his ass,but riki dont want to fight real,so he never accept 2nd match, cuz then he will get beat
It’s sad what modern day Japanese wrestling has turned into it used to be a respected and treated like a sport now it’s just an embarrassment in many cases
It's a shame Rikidozan betrayed Kimura like that just for the glory of wining since he got shanked with a urine-soaked blade by the Yakuza for it, shame
Because Brazil was holding Profession Wresting matches with Americans since the early 1920s and 1930s onward. lol Example George Gracie was a famous Pro Wrestler in the 1930s besides his already famous Jiujitsu family. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-CHwiQ2-3G34.html And Brazil was doing MMA in the 1930s and up.
