Charismatic, intelligent, storied, creative musician. His guitar parts made the songs they were on. Also really unpretentious about his accomplishments, and recovery. Rewatch this every few years, and it holds up, I hope he's doing well in 2024. Thanks, EB!
It's cool hearing him talk about Casey Royer. Rikk and Casey were pure magic in D.I.. Both the "Ancient Artifacts" and "Horse bites..." albums were pure fire!!! Casey's lyrics fit Rikk's music perfectly. I always wonder what kind of magic they would have created if they stayed together for 2-3 more albums. Sensational interview Eric, I look forward to listening to the other 3 parts of the interview.
This is awesome. Rikk kills. I played Radio City in the 80’s with my very first band. The Pendletons. We brought all of La Habra High School there. The local parties were fun to play.
Why am I not surprised he doesn't think he's a good guitarist? All the best musicians think they aren't that good. I mean, he's Rikk fucking Agnew... probably *THEE* #1 most shit-hot punk rock guitarist to ever come out of the L.A./O.C. scene. Anybody who has a clue knows this about him... yet he still doesn't think he's that good. Seriously, anyone I've ever known who's a real master of their instrument has this same kind of low self-opinion, yet I've also known so many mediocre or downright shitty musicians who think they're the hottest guitarist/bassist/drummer/singer ever... and yet they suck balls. So weird how that works.
Rikk and Frank Ruffino both inspired me to pick up guitar. That fiery sound on Dangerzone is something I can’t recreate. Rikk always had such a melodic, surf sound. Killer, humble dude.
@@DevinRyanVitek Yes, Ruffino is another one of the greats. My old band from Phoenix got to open a few shows in AZ for the 90's version of China White, back in '94. He was just fucking amazing. One of the best tones I've ever heard. Was very sad to hear of his passing. RIP
Wow. listing about getting kicked out of the Adolescents is the typical story of being in a band , getting close to success, and the bullshit coming out and killing the band.
