I have this bandsaw and most of what he said is right on. However if you need a small 10" saw just for a very small shop I don't think you can find another saw in that price range that competes with this saw. The 10-3061 is a much improved saw over this one however its a bit more money than I wanted to spend. The fence sucks on this saw so I bought the deluxe fence 10-926 for the 305 and its a lot better, not great but much better. The 10-3061 has better guides better fence, tension release, more HP and more. I really wanted the 3061 and it was a mistake not upgrading to that one but the 305 is doing a pretty dam good job after tuning it in really well. Thanks for sharing.

Your criticism of this saw is accurate. I don’t have this saw but one that is very similar from another manufacturer (it looks identical). My biggest gripe is the non-standard T track miter slot and the ridiculous need to take the fence rail off to remove/change the blade. That said once dialed in my saw cuts very well. The new 14” Rikon bandsaws look really nice.

I agree the 14in Rikon gives you much more value for your dollar! However, I still would recommend buying a used older model bandsaw like the Delta then a new Rikon model.

Thank-you for being less negative for those of us new to this. I used to be a senior cut off sawyer at a well known lumber mill, and I was offered a raise to join the band sawyer crew and I declined. I heard that Rikon was a good brand. I have already bought and own this item that is now in my possession as of today

Well, I believe they have pretty good resale value. With inflation this year I think I sold mine used for about how much I originally bought it for.

me and my dad recently bought this we are haveing a problem with the blade moving while cutting wood and we are haveing trouble fixing it could you help or tell us what might be wrong
@josephkos7279
@josephkos7279 3 года назад
First you need to loosen all of the bearings and move away from blade, next you tension the blade so it has 1/4 inch or so deflection when pressing on side of blade with medium pressure. Then you spin the top wheel by hand and see if it is tracking properly if not read manual and adjust, if tracking okay adjust bearings just close enough not to touch blade when turning wheel by hand but so bearings spin if any force is applied to blade. This should get you moving in right direction, I have this saw and for it's size is a great bandsaw.

So if you were to do this all over, would you still buy this one or would you get a Bigger bandsaw?

I didn't hear anything about component materials. Is the table cast iron or cast aluminum? Is the fence locking lever assembly metal or plastic? Is the miter guage metal or plastic? These all affect the price point compared to other 10" band saws that go plastic on everything.
@_Shopfix
@_Shopfix 2 года назад
Table is cast iron, the fence is aluminum and the miter gauge is a combo of both.

I've been looking for a review that mirrors my feelings for this saw. I've always disliked it. I can barely put any pressure on the wood before the saw binds up. I've tried cutting 1" cedar and can stop the blade with it. I think the motor is just too undersized. My other huge complaint is that no matter what I do, my workpiece wants to walk away from the fence when I'm cutting against it. And any amount of pressure to keep it on the fence and it once again binds up the saw. I shouldn't be having these problems and it's always been this way. I'm sure it's not setup right, but parts of me wish i'd bought something different or bigger. I want to believe in this saw, but I just cant.

That is the unique quality of a bandsaw, because it operates on a wheel and exits to the right its able to handle a wide range of curve cuts.
@stevesiefken6432
@stevesiefken6432 3 года назад
How is the cut quality?
@_Shopfix
@_Shopfix 3 года назад
Not exceptional. If you have everything dialed in correctly you can certainly produce some nice cuts, however, through my experience this bandsaw has so much trouble getting through hardwoods or thick softwoods. So the cut quality is great when working with thin softwoods but when you start trying to cut thick hardwoods this bandsaw can barely keep up.

Install a piece of plywood below the stand.

Buy a jig saw? 😂😂😂 This machine is fine if you need a small bandsaw. The things you critiqued are true of any band saw. When I had a 14” Delta I never used the tension gauge. Just learn to tension your blades. The rip fence track in the way of the blade changing slot is dumb. I’d just install the track on the other side. You say once your blade is tensioned don’t change it, but if you’ve used a bandsaw at all you know you often have to switch between different types of blades. And the first thing you should have done is install a new, better quality blade. Complaining about the stand for a *benchtop* machine makes no sense. You decided to spend money on it. That’s not the company’s fault. These machines are not made by Rikon. You can find more or less the exact same machine from Grizzly, Harbour Freight, Dayton, and others. They all come from the same factory, but have slightly different features. You did not talk at all about how well the saw performs. Does it track well after trying to the wheels? Does the motor bog down? That’s what should be in a review.

It's a hobby bandsaw nothing more! Same for the Deluxe 10" light cutting only. He's right build a stand! Doesn't come with a Miter guard!
