Hey John! Awesome your getting into 22lr PRS and benchrest. Would like to extend an offer to build you a more accurate barrel for your Rim-X.

Strange that they are using the conventional smallbore sling target and not what they use in smallbore F-class.

I’m guess because It’s a very informal club match

John, thanks for another great Video. Question, have you noticed a correlation between POI and POA in relation to how the recoil is represented on crosshair jump. In your first series of shots, cross hairs jumped to the left and POI was left. You showed us actual targets then your next series of shots had minimal recoil crosshair jump and POI and POA were almost perfect. Hard to really see with the quality of the scope cam but I feel it was there. Please let us know.
@FClassJohn
@FClassJohn Год назад
There could definitely be something with that. I'm going to get the cam focussed up a little better so it's even easier for everyone see what's going on with the target plus I have another toy coming that'll help as well.

@@FClassJohn Maybe an indicator that the rifle is not set up exactly as needed to control a “straight back” recoil? Thanks again for your videos. Helped me out a great deal.

Looks like the rules for this competition promote the person with the best barrel/equipment, rather than the best personal skillset of the shooter, try a competition with a none-guiding tripod with a completely flat surface with at least an inch of clearance either side of the widest part of the forestock, and with the width of the forestock being no more than 3" at the widest part, and supporting the rifle butt in the shoulder only, without a rear bag, then see who is best shot. Interesting video to watch though.

Remember that SK is the lowest quality ammunition of the Lapua series. Red box is the highest quality SK, and comes below Center-X in quality. This is info directly from the factory. A good selected lot of one of the high grades of Lapua or Eley. Like a tenex, match or x-act, midas +, is the only thing that works in high level benchrest competition today. You wont see anything else used. And for a good reason..
@MMBRM
@MMBRM Год назад
Why not use actual benchrest targets? At 50 yards the 10 ring should be 0.5" across with a 0.100" dot as the X. I'm not sure what this is but it's not Benchrest. Don't get me wrong it still looks like fun and I appreciate the video but benchrest, like F-CLASS, represents a certain set of equipment and targets. Nice shooting in any case!

My stock production gun is a bergara b14 22lr, it really likes RWS match, I have the EC tuner for it if I want to jump up to open class. 6.75 minutes up from 50 yard zero for 100 yards and 25 minutes for 200 yards. My open gun is a CZ457 lilja barrel mdt chassis that likes a particular lot of eley long rifle match. Funny thing is both rifles ballistics are really close to each other, scope heights identical and fps identical, only differences are the bc, the bc is better in the eley and is 15 fps slower. I just shoot with my local guys hoping one day the cost of primers come back under 40 per thousand, till then it's 22 rimfire for now. Also looking at that new FX rifle for prs. I have a few pcp's but that one is really promising. I think it's $1800 out of the box already in a chassis or 1/2 the cost of a vudoo.

That’s some great shooting John! But those targets are meant to be shot open sights with a globe front sight, and a rear peep sight, for both distances 50 & 100 yards. They sell Benchrest targets for scopes rifles, in Midway USA the rings are a lot smaller….. love your setup though
@FClassJohn
@FClassJohn Год назад
Thank you. It's just a fun monthly match and I don't have any control over it, but I'll suggest to the match director next time to possibly use more challenging targets. He randomly chooses two distances from 50yds to 300yds and we have guys shooting anything from 60yd old rifles with Unertl scopes to dedicated BR rifles to everything in between.

I'm still new to rimfire scoring and I know they do things a little different sometimes. I did check with the Match Director and he said it was about as close as it gets but confirmed it was a 10 according to his scoring. I'm sure it could've just as easily been a 9 to someone else. I would've been fine either way and I deferred to his judgement, it was just a blast being there.

How did you do in the match? I have shot some amazing targets and still got 4th. Lol. I’m doing a informal match like that now with the ARA targets. I like the bonus target idea. I have shot fly matches a lot. Target of 20 flys to shoot at. Body 5 points, a wind is 3 points. Rimfire Benchrest can be tons of fun.

@@FClassJohn great job man. I like Benchrest 22lr better than the positional 22lr. I’m just a few years to old to be able to compete. And too young for the og class. They will have to add another age bracket lol. 50 year old competing against 20 year old. Not much reason for me to show up. If I want to just shoot for fun I’ll go the range and shoot 10 times more rounds at steel. And whatever yardages I want. I’m slowly pulling all the older guys at the range away from the nrl stuff to shoot Benchrest now. When I see an older guy with a chassiseson there 22 I go ask if they like nrl. I like to shoot but can’t get up and down anymore like those young guys. That’s when I know I have them. They love Benchrest
@FClassJohn
@FClassJohn Год назад
@@jwoodshed1108 Yeah I'm in the same boat. I'm 49 and feel my age when I see these 20 and 30 somethings doing near-yoga like moves to make these shots and I feel like an old fart sometimes. I love doing more than anything because I have a handful of friends that I compete with and we have a blast no matter how we do. But given the choice I'd do benchrest (or some version of it) most days.
@jwoodshed1108
@jwoodshed1108 Год назад
@@FClassJohn agreed. I moved a few years back. All my shooting friends are too far away. Making new ones now. Our range doesn’t allow public matches. So I’m just starting some in club shoots until I can figure out a to have a open shoot. I just catch the nrl guns when I see them. It’s an easy sell lol. They can compete with almost zero change. It’s amazing how many I’m finding. And I wonder how many chassis guns are just at home that will never be brought back out. It looks so easy on RU-vid. Then the reality that we are 15 years older than we think. Lmao. Great videos brother. Keep up the good work.

I am thinking that there were some dry fires in there. I was told that this is bad for rim fire arms and damages your chamber and firing pin. Am I wrong?
@FClassJohn
@FClassJohn Год назад
Yeah there were a couple in there. I'd rather dry fire knowing I'm all out than come out of position. I've heard all kinds of things about dry firing but the consensus in general has been a dry fire here or there won't really hurt anything on this action.
@allenclayton7
@allenclayton7 Год назад
Dry firing with a Rimx isn’t good from what I’ve heard. However it’s easy to take out the pin for practice. Vudoo is no problem

John- appreciate your taking the time to “ film” the shooting. Back in the mid nineties when I was starting to shoot with more precision than tin cans we would use cardboard or paper sack material and use a black magic marker circle- just single line perimeter of the inside of a medical tape roll ( I believe it’s a fuzz larger I.d. than electric tape- but doubled as first aid kit ) for real easily read targets. The glare is nonexistent, and shots from small calibers are consistently more apparent. Definitely not critical response, just passing on what my mentor showed me. I am curious about using less than premium quality ammo- with what you have invested into the rifle and needed accessories, a couple of dollars additional seems frivolous in comparison with your F Class expenses. Or are you giving yourself a built in handicap? I’m stumped….
@FClassJohn

@@wrstew1272 Thank you. As for using RM vs CX, honestly it's just a matter of where I'm choosing to spend my money on consumables. I shoot more NRL22 than benchrest type matches and the RM is more than capable of doing amazing at NRL and if I throw a few fliers at matches like this while I'm saving about $400+ per case over CX then I'm ok with that. I do 22 stuff to relax and I feel this is a good trade off for me right now.
