Who knew (probably most people) that raising my snare even more and leveling it off would lead to easier rim shots. Thanks!

I'll never deny the audible gain, especially on metal snares, but I'm rarely one to play the rimshot because I cannot afford to chew my sticks to pieces.

Its better to get use to both.. center hits makes the the snare sound full.. rimshot still sound full but more loud.. being use to both will give you more texture to playing ✌️✌️✌️

Rimshots are not designed as the "default" way of hitting snares, just for adding acccents.

I agree! What's music without dynamics?

I think some old drummers had their snare actually tilted forward, but I guess it worked
@CameronFleury
@CameronFleury 2 года назад
From what I understand, that had a lot to do with when drummers used to play a marching snare, and the fact that most of those cats were using traditional grip. It just made more ergonomic sense to do it that way.
@Rx_Vitamin_R
@Rx_Vitamin_R 2 года назад
Definitely started traditional grip. My uncle was that way. Jazz band, Swing, marching band, etc... always had that snare tilted forward like Krupa.

Hey man you probably have a Mapex Persuader on this video right? And I am curious to know if you did some big mix or pretty basic, because a dig the sound of the snare! Oh and g1 or 2 on snare thx man!

The snare is a mapex phosphor bronze! They don't make them anymore. The batter head is a G2

Ever since I started playing rimshots, I think beavers have been getting into my stick bag.

As a Canadian and drummer, I can relate.

does it also apply to blast.. or what im doing right now (without rimshot) is the correct way to blast
@CameronFleury
@CameronFleury 2 года назад
Not necessarily! Personally I use the french grip without a rim shot while playing blast beats. If you we're to use a rimshot while playing blast beats it would be pretty difficult to utilize the stick rebound properly. Also, I wouldn't necessarily say there is a "wrong" way, unless of course other parts of your drumming need work (timing, coordination, technique). Hopefully this helps!

@@CameronFleury yeah... its going to be extreamly difficult man if necessary.. thanks...

@@HeavyFoot88 You can still get a great amount of volume without them for your blast beats. We want to avoid any strain or injury, just keep that in mind!

So what you're saying is... "Hold on loosely, but don't let go... If ya cling too tightly... you're gonna, you're gonna loose controoool!!" of your drumstick, right?

Leg bruise .... I still have a stick shaped scar on my leg cause my monkey brain could not grasp the concept of raising the snare 1 1/2 inches the first 2 years i played..... And thanks for the tip on the tennis elbow, was definitely not releasing the energy correctly. Gave your way a shot and wow what a difference.

Glad I could be of any help! Hopefully this will help prevent injury, so you can play drums longer.
@cDisturbed.

So people would use the rimshot throughout a whole song?
@CameronFleury
@CameronFleury 2 года назад
That all depends on the music. When you want a really loud snare hit (accent) then you want to use this technique. Add it into your playing to see what kind of sounds you can come up with!
