This is a timelapse video of a full Rimworld tribal playthrough showing how I built my base. I started off with a single tribal pawn and slowly built up a base in Rimworld. One screenshot of the base was taken each ingame hour to create the 678GB of photos it took to make the video.

Holy, almost 700 GB of images? Thats insane, hahaha. I want to do a similar kind of playthrough and document it, going to probably have to take one every day or two.

Did you just get insanely lucky with that map, or is that the product of a mod? I've never seen such a perfect circle crater map before and I have close to 2000 hours in Rimworld. If that's a mod map, I want it.

I used the Map Designer and Map Preview mods to create the tile. I'd highly suggest trying them out. The full modlist can be found in the description.

Why do all the raiders come from one place in the map? In my games they seem to come from all over.

The other three edges of the map are blocked by mountains. As such, the only place raiders can walk into the base is from the bottom edge of the map. That said, there were several drop-pod raids during the video. These can drop anywhere on the map that isn't covered by a mountain roof.

Lol, one of them self-tamed. The rest were wild. They couldn't escape once I built the moat though.

I got hit with quite a few. At the end, you can see some land near the Eastern hospital area and outside the base. They are quite possibly my least favourite type of raid lol.

@@zenseiplays remember, folks; there's nothing wrong with just not enabling the mechanoid hive faction in the first place. In fact, not enabling them is something I'd strongly recommend for new players, or those who are trying to roleplay a world where they're not the main threat.

amazing looks on your city, i just have a hard time finding a way to make my colonies defensible without abusing any kill boxes, i feel dirty doing that, and it kills my immersion

Once your base gets big (or, more accurately, wealthy enough), the game makes it pretty impossible to defend without a killbox. Killboxes are your friend. Embrace the killbox!
