🍀 REMINDERS: 🍀
Three things to keep in mind for all our videos:
1 - See a place you like? Comment with the specific timestamp (by typing for example 2:23 or 9:07) and I'll try to get back to you with the coordinates of that exact spot as best I can. Ireland is too beautiful not to share it with as many people as possible, so if you see a nice shot in any of my videos, let me know by commenting the timestamp!
2 - All our videos are mainly focused on tourists who want to get the most out of their Ireland visit (although please enjoy even if you are not in this category!). As such, they are 'beginner level', as there is so much to share about Irish history, nature and culture. This is a field that has a lot of enthusiasts in it. If you are one of those, you probably know way more about the subject than is shared in the video. Keep in mind that the intent of all the videos is to be at an introductory level so that visitors can get the most out of their trip and start to get familiar with what they will see when they visit Ireland. Be kind in your words and keep it civil in the comments. I'd love for you to share even more information in the comments so that everyone can keep on learning about this great island!
3 - Take responsibility for your own travels. These videos are meant to share my own love as an immigrant to Ireland, and as an inspiration for future visitors. They are not intended to tell you what to do or how to do it. Travelling has an inherent danger to it. Ireland is not a 'curated' playground. It is a real country, with its own beauty and shortcomings. The roads are small and windy. There are seldom fences at cliffs. The mountains are slippery, and the bogs soggy. Prepare yourself accordingly when you visit. Be smart, don't take unnecessary risks, and take responsibility for your own travels. Through being well-prepared and making smart decisions, I hope you will have a great stay and that our videos have played a small role in your enjoyment.
📹 ABOUT THIS VIDEO: 📹
In this video, we go over the 7 most common complaints tourists have about the Ring of Kerry. Are they dealbreakers? Is your Ring of Kerry drive still worth it? We'll discuss this while walking up to an old Wedgetomb in the Irish mountains. Enjoy!

you should have seen the behind the scenes action. That was not "theme and walk" but "theme and slide... right off the mountain". When I say these mountains are slippery, I'm not joking. Went flat on my behind! All for the cause! I'll talk to the local council, to see if we can do something about this complaint of yours!

There's nowhere quite like Kerry. I grew up in Dublin but spent many a family holiday there. I love how it feels like a different world from the rest of Ireland, I can't put my finger on why. Maybe it's the edge of Europe feel, thousands of kms to America and although Ireland is a small country, it would take you hours to drive to Limerick or Cork cities, let alone Dublin. Its one of my happy places.

Having not long visited that area, can I just say don't plan a visit to the Berra peninsula or the Ring of Kerry during the Bank Holiday at the beginning of May. They hold a motor rally during that weekend and close off a lot of the roads for the Rally Stages. Plus, Killarney was absolutely packed solid on Saturday & Sunday with idiots revving their engines and holding them on the rev limiter all night long (maybe they think it attracts girls). But don't let that put you off visiting any other time of the year. Ireland is a beautiful place to visit.

I’m thinking of walking the ring of Kerry this May. Are there places to stay along the way that aren’t extremely expensive, like hostels ? If there are hostels will they be open in May?
@AdventuresInQuietPlaces
@AdventuresInQuietPlaces 2 года назад
That is quite the adventure you are up to, Marilyn! Don't worry, I've got your back! Google the following keyword: 'The Kerry Way'. This is the name of the hiking trail that follows the Ring of Kerry, all round the peninsula. It has its own websites and YES, there are some hostels and BnBs on tje way that are cheaper. As far as I know, in both the Black Valley and in Kenmare there are hostels and there are cheaper BnBs all along the Kerry Way that specifically cater to hikers. Hope that helps and that you have a great hike. May is perhaps THE best month to do the hike in, with good weather and spring colors all around. Keep me posted how you found the hike!

I see that you have a walking stick. Do you recommend having one? My aunt, my friend, and I are going to Ireland in April and we're doing the Ring of Kerry. Trying to be as prepared as possible.
@AdventuresInQuietPlaces
@AdventuresInQuietPlaces 4 месяца назад
That's actually a really good point. This video was taken just south of the Ring of Kerry, and I'm specifically going 'off road'. The stops on the Ring of Kerry are not this 'adventurous' and are well pathed/paved - so no walking stick needed. If you are planning to go off the beaten path anywhere in Ireland than a hiking pole is really advised. There is an enormous amount of bog land here, even on mountain sides. With the amount of rain we get, that means it is *always* slippery. Even after a 3 week dry spell. So, it depends. If you are asking about the Ring of Kerry - almost all stops there are tourist orientated and do not *need* a walking stick. If you are going anywhere more adventurous and off the beaten path - a walking stick is highly advised. But again, it depends what you are going to be up to. I might have repeated myself a couple of times there, but hope that helps.

@@gillesdanneel7184 Yes, over the weekend of 23-25 April, Killarney National Park has been hit by pretty bad forest fires. I've gone down to check today. I'll try to have a video out tomorrow. Short story of my first impressions: The size of the fires and devastation is pretty bad, in amount of forest lost. However, due to the layout of the National Park, the places where the tourists go hike and drive the Ring of Kerry are minimally affected. Which is an absolute miracle. Those are the first impressions. More tomorrow. Thanks for checking in!
