Today, we are going to check the new entry level and cheapest video doorbell from Ring.... the Ring Video Doorbell Wired. I am interested to check this out and see if Ring crippled it so that it will not hurt the sales of their Ring Video Doorbell Pro and the upcoming premium video doorbell Pro 2 which is 4 times the price of this $60 dollar doorbell.
So, we will do the unboxing, check out its features, set it up, do the installation, check out the settings in the app and check out its video and audio quality and also run the usual video doorbell tests and see if this basic video doorbell wired from Ring can be an option for your front door... or with the price, you can install this video doorbell to every exterior door at your house.

You have the best video of the Amazon Ring Doorbell. You explain everything with easy to follow instructions. I plan on using mine with an Echo Dot. I use a Nest Indoor Webcam in my windows to see my entire yard and street. I get alerts via email. Thanks. Jim

Thanks for your review. I purchased two of these for family members and I also have a Doorbell Pro. It’s pretty much in line with the current Pro on quality and features. After I installed the Wired, I called customer support to inquire about the color night vision mode. The tech told me that he expects that an update will come at a later time to enable color night vision. I still think that at this price, it’s a great product. I would have bought this for myself rather than the pro, especially if they come through with a color night vision update. Great content as always.

Ah yes that's what I want to hear with the color night vision. I see no reason it's not included, being hardwired and with the $60 indoor cam having it. This is the one "crippled" feature it seems.

I was worried about the video capture area especially since my doorbell doesn't face my walkway. I was going to get the peephole camera but learned that it's been discontinued. I think I'll get this and a video floodlight for my backdoor. Thanks for your review, they are so much better than rings videos.

I think this will be perfect for my townhome, it sits far in the back and doesn’t get a lot of traffic so I didn’t want to spend a ton on a video doorbell for it

I do think it’s a really good device. I hace the Ring Doorbell Pro,’like you, and this one is almost the same, except the color feature at night and doesn’t sounding the indoor chime of your house (that people don’t use often anyways with these devices if you have ring chime or echo devices). So... if the new Doorbell Pro 2 that is coming, hasn’t been announced or so, this would be a go to product, honestly. Is really good. Thanks for your reviews. 👍🏼

Wow! Great video review! Thanks for the information. I believe I will be replacing my Nest Hello doorbell to lower the subscription cost but more importantly, to get timely notifications. By the time I get notifs on my Nest Hello, the visitor is typically leaving. Recently I received my notification for a package delivery as the driver was getting back into his truck. Frustrating!!

I really appreciate your reviews. Others waste lots of time with unboxing then go superficial. You look at features that matter. I have a Ring Peephole Cam (a gift). Super easy install. My front door faces the street. I see cars going by but cannot detect people that walk toward it. Essentially useless. It sometimes detects them walking away but that isn't very useful. My experience with Echo show and Google Home is similar. They can show the camera but are too slow to do it... if at all. I haven't bothered to check the audio features. My ring was a gift with an extra battery pack which was smart as they take a long time to recharge. Ring has their neighborhood network. It's mostly useless as 90% is lost and found cats and dogs. 5% is bobcat, coyote or snake sightings and the rest are reports of people stealing things from unlocked cars or as I call them "I was stupid" alerts.

Wouw never wanted to buy a smart doorbell as I did not want a cheap one and I cannot afford the ring doorbells(untill now). But thanks to you I made a decision to save up some money for this one as it seems smart and it's free to get a push message so I might be able to link it to my beamer with firestick will watching movies.

This is the first video doorbell I’ve ever felt had the right features in the right eco system at the right price. I’m probably going to be buying this if I can figure out how to hook up two to the same chime box (I have a doorbell and the front and back of my house)

It won't work with any normal doorbell chime box. The jumper cable deactivates the physical chime box and it's necessary. Though that's unfortunate, just get a Ring Chime or two ($80 when bundled with the doorbell wired); you only need one really, but with 2 you will be able to hear someone ring either side anywhere in the house.

So this obviously works with the echo show 5, but could I get around buying a chime box and just use my show 5 or even my echo dot? I have 2 of those and would hate to have to buy something else you know?

I have mine ringing on one echo and two echo dots along with the chime..... well it actually says "Someone is at the (name you gave doorbell e.g. front door)" But I would still get the chime as WIFI issues could cause echos to miss the alert or doorbell ring.

Be sure to turn off the electricity at the fuse box. I ignored the direction of turning off the electricity because as a younger man I used to install light fixtures. We never turned the electricity off during installations. Well, after two days of no success and not getting a wireless connection, I decided to cover all the bases and turn off the breaker. I had installed and uninstalled this model several times before this. Well, to my elation, the system, the camera and the wireless worked. So be sure to turn off the the breaker.

I am watching your video right now on my smart TV and I too have the protect plan for my three cameras, but I know my charge went from $100.00 to $105.50 as of February 20, 2021. Have you noticed if your yearly subscription increased? Even though the price increased $5.50 more a year, I am still pleased with the Ring cameras. Thanks for the video. Don from Milwaukee

I wish they would allow us to change the chime sound when someone presses the doorbell. I don't mean the app sound, I mean the sound the person hears when pressing the doorbell.

Video quality is Ring standard blown-out highlights and tons of macroblocking on motion. Doesn't appear to be improved (or made worse) over their (very old) doorbells. Audio quality demonstrated from the phone still sounds like it is very similar to my Pro. The only problem I've had with the audio is that people think they need to talk louder and that actually makes it hard to hear them as the microphone is too sensitive and it clips. When they speak at a normal conversational level they are clear. Really hope the Pro 2 is massively improved over this.

I came here from a Ring Floodlight cam plus review which was great and helped me to make a decision to buy one. The doorbell looks great too, I would like to ask about think I did not find here (or failed to notice). Now, I have a normal wired doorbell that aktivates an iterior sound unit. Will be this feature be perserved when I install the Ring video doorbell? I think: someone pushes the doorbell button - it activates the interior sound generator as in my current setup AND informes me via a mobile app? Or the Ring video doorbell just takes electricity via wires but not send inpuls back to the interior present sound generator? Thank you very much and greetong from the Czech Republic.

I wish ring had a circular door bell so I can use my existing holes. I hate to drilling into brick. I’m using a Skybell HD because it’s round and can use my already drilled holes.

I am thinking about installing it at my second home where internet service will not be available all the time. I might put internet service on hold when I will not visit for a long time. When there’s no internet service, if someone rings the doorbell, will home original chime still work? I mean will it sound? Do I need to rewire back to original setting again in chime?
