I've known about RingCentral's deceptive and overpriced business practices for almost a decade now. Recently however, I came across a RingCentral customer whose phone bill was so egregiously bad, that I had to bring attention to it. If you use RingCentral - you're making a bad business decision, and this video will explain why.

Thank you Chris for exposing these thieves. These dirty practises of locking people/companies into long term price gouging contracts is what gives the industry a bad name. Companies like yours are making it harder for these scammers to continue to do this. Your efforts to shed light on this evil practise is much appreciated! THANK YOU AGAIN, CHRIS!!

Bro this was a sales pitch. They didn't need all of those phones in the first place but they signed a three year contract. That's called MISMANAGEMENT. They probably got a "deal" for taking the three year commitment. If you aren't a giant megacorporation then yea you're gonna have a bad time suing another giant megacorporation when you fuck up in your budgeting and contracts. A fool and their money are soon parted.

This was a great video! I modeled my VoIP business similar to yours for the same reason. It started with my cousin's company and when I looked at what licensing and SIP service actually costs vs what they were being charged was outrageous. On top of smaller companies like ours usually being cheaper, you also get meaningful support. Not someone reading from a script and saying "here's your lines, good luck."

I used your tutorials back in 2018 to convert my SMB office of 40 people from a 1997 NEC system to a self-hosted, on-prem FreePBX deployment with Sangoma phones, 4 DIDs, 1 toll free and I think we're at $75 every 2 months to recharge our Flowroute account. There seems to be a movement from certain companies to contractual terms which benefits them and harms their customers. Our accountancy software company told us we must upgrade to a new version (3 year rolling contract and annually 5 times what we currently pay) we told them where to go. But basically read the Terms and Conditions of any contract you sign (also print or download a copy if digital) the same software company has a dynamic T&Cs so they change them at will.

If your service was based on copper, the MRC would keep increasing as time goes by, since the FCC has deregulated POTS lines citing "increasing costs to maintain outdated systems" or so. AT&T does have IP Flex plans that bundle VoIP voice+dedicated fiber internet and depending on how many concurrent call paths you need (100 DID ≠ 100 call paths) it would cost significantly less than POTS. There's no way you'd have to pay $3800 MRC for VoIP.

Great info, but the only head scratching piece for me as an ex employee is the Large Meeting licensees being compared to Zoom Rooms. Those are two very different products….The two licenses you showed that were over $300 total were for large virtual meetings, not in office Zoom Rooms. However, your point is still valid because based on their size they would rarely, if ever, need that big of a license.

We are trying to get out from under their thumb. We thought we were month to month, but they auto-renew their 3 year contract. 70 Users, 100 DIDs, 1500 Minutes. $3200 each month and $500 more in taxes and another $500 in fees.
@CrosstalkSolutions
@CrosstalkSolutions 9 месяцев назад
Auto renewing a 3-year contract is insane. They probably want 60 days prior notice to cancel too. And the crappy thing is that they hold your phone numbers hostage - if you just stop paying and they cut off your service, you're dead in the water with no way of getting your DIDs back.

The only time I sign a contract for more than one month and no more than one year is if there are three requirements that have been met in advance: I already trust the company with a pre-established relationship where I am a long-time client/customer, the contract stipulates a significant cost savings over the regular rate, and I was planning on using that service/product in the first place. In other words, it's rare but I've done it before and it generally works out pretty well on my end of things.

am i missing something here? how could mom and pop not know they were in a 3yr contract? it states very clearly (as of 12.14.23) on the initial order form, the initial term length and the renewal term length. this sounds like a case of mom and pop not bothering to read their contract at all, blindly listening to the sale rep's jibber jabber, and signing wherever they were told (probably could've got the house if the sales rep had tried for it). To me, that doesn't sound like a Ring Central problem (outside of a complaint being filed against that bad sales rep for misleading communications). Am I missing something here? Did Ring Central alter the initial contract terms after signing? How is mom and pop not doing some comparative shopping a ring central problem?

Our system for 24 phones with their own DID plus 65 to match was was listed with, mobile app, pc app, voicemail transcription, and fax to email with device warranty for forever as long as your a customer, and unlimited tech support, remote and onsite would be about $965 ish per month. Unlimited local and long distance, Puerto Rico, Canada, we used to do per minute, but we have experienced most customers prefer to know exactly what the bill will be each month. And also don’t want a unknown bill if they call for support, thus the bumper to bumper warranty when it comes to phone.

We had an client try to setup Ring Central in their Tokyo branch office. It was a nightmare. Not only was the cost per user incredibly high, but the interface and roles is a nightmare to navigate. Global Office License requirements, having to do extension conversions on the back end, etc. Everytime you try to customize with things that would normally be included in a PBX setup, its always some extra fee. Unless you're a mega corporation that doesnt want to have an in-house PBX admin/team and can negotiate a huge discount from RC, I would recommend looking elsewhere.

one word: lawyer Have a court void the contract, a smart lawyer will find a way. However, my concern apart from your bias, is, at the begining you say they own their own phones - and - onsite PBX, so why, are you wanting to move them to your "hosted" pbx as you say in the final minutes? they dont have to reconfigure phones or anything, all that is required is reconfiguring the trunk on the PBX from RC to CS, being as reliable and simplewr, in fact better for them, since they wont be limited in any functionality the PBX provides that your provider does not, be it in total, or through feature limits that are not applicable with their own PBX.

I do agree with your assessment overall. RingCentral, among others is quite expensive for VoIP services. HOWEVER, one thing that floored me was your comments questioining regulatory fees, etc. VoIP consultants/resellers like us is in fact a VERY hot topic at the FCC right now. If you are reselling VoIP services - you MUST collect and pay all of the taxes for each and every jurisdiction (upwards of 5 per customer). Regulatory complaince is a real thing, and as a VoIP interconnect resller myself, we pay for regulatory and complaincy services as wel as NANP, TRS and various other costs. I'm aware you can avoid this by having customers sign up with SIP carriers direct - but whatever you do - do not resell SIP services unless you are complaint in every juriscition for which you sell. The tax man will be coming in the near future - and they are not pretty when it comes to audits and fines.

Shh don't tell him. This was one of the most grossly incorrect thing he states in the video. Calling the fees he mentions "B.S" fees should be a red flag for anyone watching this. I work with a ton of telco and VoIP providers. These fees are anything, but B.S.
