Ringing of Seveso's bells for the important fair in honour of the martyr 

The sanctuary of Seveso was built in the 17th century near one of the rivers of the vast plain, which rises in the mountains from Switzerland. The church replaced the original one built in the mid 13th century, on the site where the martyr Saint Peter was brutally murdered, in whose honour one of the best patronal festivals in northern Italy is held on the first Sunday in May. The Baroque bell tower was built by the architect of the cathedral, who originally planned two twin towers. The belfry has five recent bells, cast in 1961 in the musical scale of E major.

The five bells are played exclusively by bellringers, still having the traditional keyboard as on the piano and the strings, which reach down to the ground floor behind the sacristy. When no one can ring the bells, there is a computer that makes them move. During the afternoon of the fair, the bells are rung for a while, accompanying the thousands of pilgrims who come to the shrine to venerate the original scythe with which the saint was martyred.
Pietro Rosini was born in 1206 in Verona, the city from which he left at the age of 15 to study. In Bologna he met the saint Dominic, who accepted him into the order of preaching friars. When he was appointed inquisitor of Milan, he began to be hated by heretics, to such an extent that four nobles paid a hitman to have him killed. On 6 April 1252, the assassin Carino, who later converted and became blessed, ambushed Peter and another friar, breaking their skulls with a large sharp scythe. An important convent was built in memory of the saint, while his body was carried in solemn procession by tens of thousands of people and buried in one of the city's main churches, where the skull still stands today in a silver and gold reliquary. The convent was suppressed by the French, who after the defeat at Waterloo gave it to the diocese, which turned it into a seminary for more than a hundred years.
