What's amazing about Ringo's playing is that he couldn't hear his band mates at all over the fans screaming he had to read their movements to know what was going on but he still played perfectly

Ringo is my favorite Beatle. Why? He's the Beat in Beatles. And he's a Starr.

The dude had friggen wrists of steel. The very fact that he could sustain some of these beats with so much precision is the very testament to how brilliant he was.

He never hesitated. Never skipped a bit. He was simple yet immensely creative. Ringo is a low-key genius.

At 3:09 something cracks Paul up. Ringo laughs along, but makes sure the beat goes on.

Completely underrated. Ringo was the type of drummer who sat in the pocket and drove the song with authority. The Beatles would have never been the Beatles without him.

Haha….at 3:10. Ringo was the glue that held them all together. He saved them many times in concert when they goofed up with his incredible timing and beat.

He's the only drummer you see actually smiling - he looks like he's enjoying himself and it's endearing.

And Ringo was one of the first drummers back then who played nice and loud. That's what I liked about the Beatles....you could actually hear the guitars, drums and bass...all nice and loud!

love his high hat playing, especially in the early years, it was that constant open high hat sound that really made those early Beatles songs for me.

You can see Ringo at the beginning of most songs straining to hear what the band is doing. But the minute he drops in he just becomes a total metronome. God love Ringo

Ringo's playing is unpretentious but solid and perfect for the Beatles style. And Ringo always looks like he's having such a blast playing behind John, Paul and George and his joy is contagious. He's a real crowd pleaser.

100% solid drummer. Hardly ever messed up, and didn’t often make tiny mistakes like a stick drop or an accidental rim hit or something. Also he had awesome tempo. Give it to Ringo for pioneering the rock drumming we know and love today!

one of the million things i love about Ringo is the simplicity of his drum kit set-up: 3 toms, 1 ride and 1 crash - that’s all he needed and he found such cool and creative ways to use his kit…Long Live Ringo!!

Ringo, the Jimi Hendrix of drums. An astonishingly gifted original and creative drummer. Never lost the tempo or the beat, and enjoyed every moment on his drum kit drumming for The Beatles. Why did it take so long for them to induct him into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? Total legend.

The band buildup at 1:52 might be the most awesome buildup ever in their "Long tall sally" performances. It is insane to watch how in sync they all are when the entire place is going nuts. Paul turning to count them off, Ringo hitting all the offbeats, John driving the key change, and George hitting the solo is note perfect with a sweet bend at the end. Shows just how miles ahead of every other band even in 1964 period. The girls all standing on their feat at the end when Paul turns to face them is the cherry on top. Just nailed it.

I saw Ringo in Paris last year and what struck me about his drumming style was how relaxed it was. He could almost have been a jazz drummer. When you listen to his drumming, everything he did was classy and added to the music. His drumming style, personality and musicality fitted The Beatles perfectly.

Anyone that have played in a band live, will praise what happened at 3:11. I watched that part lots of times and enjoyed every time. Those are priceless moments when playing live with friends. They were all laughing for a while. Very cool video and very underrated drummer!

Ringo was the original Dave Grohl. His little kit is begging for mercy. Godfather of heavy hands.

Economical is a good way to describe Ringo's playing--understated and in the background, keeping the time and carrying the beat. Perfect.

Ringo's playing grew with the band. He came up with licks, beats, grooves that are iconic, immediately recognizable, and it fit the music perfectly. What he didn't play was as important as what he did play.

I'm 53 ys old , 40 ys of them a Beatles fanatic and my favourite Beatle was always Ringo . Why ?! Because he doesn ' t play the drums,, He simply plays the song . And that is a talented artist. Bless you Sir .

I was seven years old that night, glued to the tv watching the Beatles on the Ed Sullivan show. Ringo was rocking the beat with a boyish enthusiasm and a masterful swing, it made you feel alive with an excitement you never felt before.

He's the underrated Beatles but he's just so good.

Ringo layed down some unique drum hooks as well as being a very tight beat machine. My favourite being the floor Tom Tom roll at the start of "She Loves You"

To me, Ringo is very underrated as a drummer

You have to remember as well, that Ringo himself as frequently stated that it live performances due to the level of screams that all he could mostly do was hold down the back beat, as anything other than that would get drowned out.

Richard Starkey: a PROFESSIONAL musician. Dude was interpreting original songs. Made at LEAST as important as the significancy we ascribe to lead guitarists. Everybody plays his licks, but he never played anybofy else's on an original Beatles composition.

I've been playing drums for over 40 years now. To me Ringo is a great drummer. He plays a lot of 32sec beat to many songs including Help. Not easy to do! He really kicks ass on Long Tall Sally towards the end of song. Great job Ringo!!

Everything he played always complimented the songs perfectly. I mean who else could drum on A Day In The Life and STILL make it better

If the Beatles were sushi rice: John was the vinegar, Paul was the sugar, George was the salt, Ringo was the rice. Love him! He provided tasty and steady BEAT to the BEATles. I am in a band and someone like Ringo is the one most appreciated by the band members themselves.

Ringo was a superb time keeper. Rock steady. A human metronome with a beautiful relaxed feel. Never over or under played and did just what fitted with the music to perfection. Sadly there are idiots who still disparage his playing, Cloth eared morons who jumped on an old band waggon that reared its malicious head in the sixties . I defy any of these ''experts'' to listen to Ringo playing and point out where he could have added or subtracted something which would have improved his performance, or point out a mistake or loss or gain in tempo. Impossible task. Arch critic and one of, if not the the best drummer to play, Buddy Rich, rated Ringo as ''adequate'' Praise indeed from a man who saw no reason to mince his words and said what he thought.

One of the things that made Ringo's life a little easier when he couldn't hear a thing is that he never played the same fill the same way twice. He didn't have to memorize what to do, just to play what he felt.

Gotta respect the legend for headbanging and acting like he is enjoying the music while he couldnt hear anything.

King of feel - the very quality you can't put into words. A message to other drummers - there's no point analysing; just enjoy what's happening.

Ringo is brilliant. His drumming style is unique. He invented a lot of completely new techniques in drumming.

I must admit with shame that as a very young drummer, I used to mock the notion that Ringo was any kind of noteworthy drummer. The truth was that I simply did not have the experience, or appreciation for what he did back then. So many of us get caught up in who plays the most notes. How fast we play. I love fast technical drumming as much as anyone, but I learned over time that speed is actually easy to develop if it's all you do. It's fun, and if it's appropriate for your music, then go for it. What Ringo brought was tremendous musicality. People who are not musicians don't understand how hard it is to play musically and dynamically appropriate at all times. Providing great tempo, impact, nuance, and spirit to the music is a different type of demand. So many Beatles hits are memorable because of the drum beat just as most songs are memorable because of the guitar or vocal line. Ringo created musical "hooks" that are normally done by other instruments. And he did it with a four piece with a ride, crash, and set of hats. Drummers, whether you know it or not, and whether you like it or not, much of what we do is attributable to ringo. He is in the DNA of drummers.

Ringo was my original influence on drums and I still love him. I still play at 66. Love you Richie.

Imagine having to keep the tempo like a machine during those gigs where you all you could hear was the screeching of the fans. Huge musician. His parts always perfectly fit to the songs.

Ringo is reason why I started drumming at 9 years old, I'm 38 now and I am so grateful for Ringo and the Beatles, great drummer and a great great great band!
