Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 1 the making of shows behind the scenes of Amazon's take on J.R.R Tolkien's lord of the rings in an "X-Ray series". But given what we know of Rings of Power, from the Harfoots behaviour to Galadriel's antics around Halbrand. Does the making of LOTR: Rings of Power actually improve Amazon Prime Video's series?

Well, Making of Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power didn't go better than the first. Spidey sense? No, ELFY SENSE?!! And of course can't forget the increased focus on the Harfoots as they continued their descent into darkness that apparently, none of the creators even realised?! Part 3 of this will cover the last 3 episodes, and Willow is out today..... the zoomer CW series that it has turned out to be, BOY does that front load a lot of horrible personalities and messages in the first 20 minutes. Reviews for the first 2 episodes of that will come out over the next 2 days too. But for now, let me know your thoughts down below, and as always, thanks for watching :)

I put the quotations in because like most martial arts that one is not useful at all in actual fighting. But because black slaves did it they want him to be “comfortable” in ground fighting. When Galadriel's actress said "I can suddenly do things," it just brings to my mind someone who can't do literally anything before this show and is suddenly remarkable for no apparent reason. Now Hollywood just churns out crap, and seems more preoccupied with these featurettes, making-ofs and “behind the scenes“ pieces, in which everybody gets to pat themselves on the back and be pretentious. Well said, The reality is books and original source material are way points on the journey that help minimize the ship wreck factor of a show or film. @MrCovi2955
@MrCovi2955 Год назад
A lot of the behind the scenes stuff in LOTR also showed how much passion they all had about the source material. They had a forge running to make the swords. They had 2 guys making chain mail. It was a real miss not having Elrond be the one to go to Numenor. The line of kings are his nieces and nephews, the children of a twin brother he will never see again. That would have been really interesting to explore.
@IUsedToBeAnAdventurerLikeYou
Exactly. Gil-Galad should’ve had an “arc” more like Galadriel’s with the whole warrior bit. Elrond should’ve been in Numenor and Celebrimbor should’ve had Elrond’s arc with the Dwarves. Galadriel should never have been the main character plain and simple.

Yes, but thats whats so interesting about it. It could have given the show a way to demonstrate the immense time span since the first king and elrond would appear like a figure of legend. But let's be honest. What the rings of power did to elrond, celebrimbor and gilgalad was horrible. I just dont know how anybody could read tolkiens work and come up with this show. It is so incredibly stupid. The direction, props, fighting, dialogue, characters... everything is so bland. The whole plot with the elves and mithril? Who the fuck came up with that? why is elrond galadriel's beta gay friend? And a politician? Why does celebrimbor lool so old and doesn't know anything about smithing? How did he ever make some of the greatest weapons if he didn't even know about alloys. You just get the feeling that nobody that worked on this show read tolkien in a detailed manner. Or was even thinking of respecting the world he created. Or had any knowledge of their area of expertise. I think disparu is correct in thinking the writers were just thick and agenda driven. “There’s an element of selfishness to her.” That’s not something you want in a protagonist. You can have characters like Dr. Strange and Tony Stark, but Galadriel’s supposed to be a paragon. Besides, Tony and Steven eventually overcome their selfishness in order to be better people/heroes. And just like Disparu said, selfishness is basically this version of Galadriel’s ONLY personality trait.

Whenever somebody starts on about "modern" art (or anything that isn't technical), it is a nakedly desperate attempt to justify the ideology that they're exclusively superior to everything that came before - despite any and all objective standards. First they need to separate their work, to put forward the hysterical notion that you can't hold their BS to any, previous, standard. If challenged, they literally lie about the intentions AND works of anybody else, so they can pretend that they're "above" everything that came before. (above reproach) They _feel_ that by painting their "competitors" (enemies) in a bad enough light, that they'll never have to justify/examine what it is that they've actually done, themselves. (Reminder: art exists to be examined... and they explicitly do not want you critically thinking about what they've done, so much as what others have done before. Because they seriously have no gfd idea of what they're doing, or why.) Then they disingenuously make their "new" subset SOUND inherently impressive, in order to dissuade argument - "modern" Because they've got the same spine, mental acuity and moral compass as a used car salesman. These people are, literally, textbook examples of "depraved" Art speaks for itself, that's the whole point... Read: If RoP were ACTUALLY GOOD - we wouldn't need these vacant stares to "explain" how "diverse" their dwarfs are, or how "modern" their white chick tribbing on horseback, when not in full-plate, is supposed to be. (honestly wtf.) These people legit don't know right from wrong, or how to be a professional, in any measurable or meaningful way.

I get the feeling that no one asked questions (those who did were removed for being -difficult- _disruptive),_ and no one watched the final product (they didn't "taste test", therefore everyone assumes that everything is fine). I work at a place with much the same issues. It does not run well. _It barely functions._ They genuinely think that positivity and effort is enough, when it's the *_end result_* that matters. It's a product that you're trying to exchange for _money._ It needs to have _worth._ They're working 'hard', but not _smart._ *And it shows.* Heck, this isn't the first gig for these people, is it? Everyone's talking like high schoolers doing their first big production. It's _bizarre._

"Maybe you should have edited out all those scenes that never went anywhere in your first season." Right. That makes the first season into a title screen and then 28 seconds of credits. Actually, I'm good with that. I'm probably even better with that than I am with Stone and Parker making a "Terrance and Philip's Rings of Power" animated show, and that would at least have something worth watching.

The funniest part of this is Numenor was a world superpower inhabited by virtual giants whose strength, abilities and lifespan far exceeded those of regular humans. There's no way that people from the "Southlands" would not have heard of Numenor. Also the series breaks its own lore, since Halbrand is like "wow I didn't know about Numenor" then a few Episodes later discount Eowyn/Bronwyn is leading the people who an abandoned "Numenorian outpost". So clearly, they not only *did* know about Numenor, but there were literally Numenorian settlements in the Southlands. Its like they just forgot what happened a couple of Episodes before. That's the downside of each Episode being written by different people, or just --- incompetent writers in general I guess.

5:45 What's funny is there ARE some people on the show that have some clue on how to portray aloofness in elves. The Durin/Elrond arc does a decent job at that, with Durin being pi$$ed at Elrond for wandering back into his life 30 years later, acting like they hung out last week. Matter of fact, if episode one showed the Durin/Elrond storyline and nothing else, I'd have been sufficiently duped into thinking this show could be pretty good. But nope. Galadriel is the biggest LOTR characterization fail since Radagast "I let birds poop on my face" the Brown.

It's almost sad how Morfydd Clark obviously thinks that a bunch of highly-trained stunt people desperately trying to make her look good means that she was somehow doing some great fighting out of nowhere. She just looks so pleased with herself and not a single word of deference to the stunt people helping her look good. She obviously thinks filming the show brought out some kind of secret power hidden inside her and after seeing the look on her face, no one had the heart to break it to her that she didn't actually do anything, but that it was all just everyone around her doing their best to sell the fights (with greater or lesser success).

Compare that to Viggo Mortensen. He worked tirelessly to perfect his swordplay, even going so far to carry his sword at all times even off set to get use to it's weight, who's trainer said he was the best, most naturally talented, swordsmen he ever trained. And yet, he somehow stays humble and lighthearted about it all.

Funny thing is, I distinctly stated the other day that the main problem with Galadriel's character arc is that it is perfectly flat: while she does get constant after constant reason to change her mindset and attitude entirely (the whole notion of having the Big Lie revealed to her that she needs to stop believing in in order to move forward), she never does so, only borrows the demeanour of having reevaluated things for a short spell and then *_off_* she goes again! More importantly, that that is possible because there are no real consequences *_she_* ever faces, but that the whole pivot point would be how she perceives things, which the show desperately tries to paint as so important, yet carries no weight as it gets ignored by the next scene, as she keeps trudging on others. That it is all about her feelings. Thank you, Clark, for proving me right!

The bit where they talk about Morfydd learning swordsmanship is SO clearly a callback to the LotR special features where you learn that Viggo Mortensen impressed his sword fighting coach so much that he did all his own stunts and was the only cast member who was allowed to use an actual steel sword. But, see, he actually put in the work and it SHOWED. Comparing THAT to... whatever Galadriel did in RoP is frankly insulting.

the problem is that Tolkien thought like an elf; he was learned, not just via university but through combat experience where he witnessed the chaotic power of self will compared to the serenity of the natural world. Tolkien's galadriel symbolise that natural serenity, but guyladriel symbolises chaos. Even if the show runners wanted to give her a place to develop from, Tolkien would never have made it a place of chaos because her elvish nature doesn't allow it. Orcs are that corruption, and a bridge between man and elf.
