Rings of Power Review - Great Comedy, EVIL People 

I loved the railgun trebuchet rounds that knock down a mountain, yet took days to weeks to destroy the city and could not poke a hole in the wall. This was written by people that are smart enough to work for Disney.

I can’t believe how quickly the river dried up to allow the orcs to rush over. And the ways they show the elves in “battle” they aren’t graceful, they aren’t ethereal, they’re basically humans with elf ears…like the Witcher tv show.

Oh my god…I cannot believe how unbelievably bad the choreography is of the fight scenes. The battle scenes are awful…and they used it in the marketing.

Correction every single part of this episode is awful

Numenor was also a tale of the price of faithfulness in an age/nation of faithlessness. Sort of what we Christians are living in this age without the human sacrifice.

Well considering their other choices they either 1. Knew but did not care or 2. Have no ducking clue about anything, not sure which is worse but considering the utter lack of quality in rings of power it doesn't really matter either way.

Nothing a quick wiki search would have shown but that seems to be too much effort for the writer or writers of the show .unless they were just thought hey let’s have Elrond kiss his future mother in law on the lips that’s a awkward story for family gatherings lol very woody Alan of them in my opinion

The show's justification is that Galadriel thinks Celeborn is dead so it can't be cheating. If this wasn't LOTR then it would be perfectly justified. However, elves don't remarry if a spouse dies because their spouse is resurrected In Valinor. They know this in Tolkein. Its why Elrond is single in LOTR but has three children and doesn't seek a new spouse; Celebrian is already in the Undying Lands and Elrond knows he will he reunited with her. Of course this whole logic utterly destroys Galadriel's motivation in this show because she's angry at Sauron for murdering her brother.

@@supersuede6493 Right, that's the thing. From our modern day and HUMAN perspective, this isn't cheating because as far as Galadriel is aware, her husband is dead. Ignore the lore in this regard. If you ignore the lore, you can't possibly argue it is cheating, even if Celeborn still shows up alive later. In any modern day setting, if something happened to a spouse who was presumed dead and never returned home, you would label the person as dead. If said person shows up again later alive, it wouldn't be considered cheating at all. In fact, it'd be perfectly justified. It becomes an awkward situation, but its perfectly justified in-context. The MCU had a similar problem with his "Snap" and "Blip". The blip is when millions of people (half of all life in the universe) suddenly vanished. Five years later they return back alive, but as if no time has passed by. Naturally, of course, many husbands/wives would have likely been separated in that time, and it would be perfectly justified to assume said spouses were never returning, so they may have remarried. This also works in war contexts, where people can disappear in war but still somehow survive. Because they lost contact with the army and maybe have to fend themselves off in the wild, it could take years for said person to return. Or it could be a literal memory loss scenario where they had no idea how to get back home or they had a home to get to. In other contexts, it could be a sailing accident where a person gets stranded on a deserted island. These things do happen (rarely) in real life. The lore of Rings of Power ignores the fact that the elves resurrect in Valinor and never remarry in Middle Earth because of that. I try and criticize the show from two perspectives: including Tolkien's lore, and NOT including Tolkien's lore and simply judging the show by its own merits. If we judge the show on itself, it cannot be considered cheating in-universe. Defenders of the show always constantly complain that people who criticize the show are only complaining about lore inaccuracies when that's not true at all. We should also be able to criticize the problems with the show WITHOUT taking into account lore inaccuracies. I don't see a problem addressing the lore inaccuracies separately, though. From a lore perspective, she is cheating on her husband, yes. From an in-show-universe perspective, though, she's not, because far as she's concerned, her husband is dead. This is also consistent with how they handled Finrod, and Galadriel's motivations make ABSOLUTELY NO SENSE if we assume the show is following the lore in this regard.

Accountability is women's kryptonite, always has been.

They could have followed a wiki page made of nothing but bullet points and been a lot more accurate and epic and something that makes a whole lot more sense. Nothing in this show is canon, not a single scrap. The rings aren't supposed to be handed out by the elves. The rings have been made in the total wrong order. FFS The one ring should be being forged by Sauron right now in Mount Doom. Eregion shouldn't be sacked until the one ring is made and Sauron tries to enact his plan but the elves sense the one ring and wipe their rings of power off. That's why Eregion is seiged to get back the rings by torturing Celebrimbor. He should be dead after he gives the locations of the seven and nine and than his body used as a flag banner after that. I hate this show.

@@ChristianeFriederiekeEva-vf8tb They still bought the rights to the Appendices which have plenty of information they could go off of to build a good story if they bothered to actually follow it accurately. However, they have the rights to "Miriel" and "Annatar" even though neither are mentioned in the Appendices far as I can tell. (The Appendices don't mention Sauron's alias Annatar to my knowledge.)

Why, when she is "a elves disgrace"? The morals of the people in this show, especially that of the elves is at a californian level. I think they would smoke a bit of meth, flavoured after with some fenthanyl and bang each other at family gatherings.

@@skromnyprezes the visuals suck outside of a few nice looking CGI landscape shots. The props and costumes especially look amateurish and awful. Not to mention the complete lack of scale outside of the aformentioned landscape shots.

5 thousand year old elf. Spent 1k years just looking for Sauron

I just watched a lovely video that compares the elves of Jackson's films side-by-side with the "elves" of this show, and one thing I noticed is that ALL of the elves in the films had something in common: confidence. Even in grief or sorrow or rage, even if they were wrong, they were certain of who they were and what they ought to do. This show's "elves" are all confused, emotionally dysfunctional, and have no moral compass.

The implication is this happened thousands of years ago, so she has to assume he's dead at this point, otherwise he would have returned. Also, I'm pretty sure she flat out said she "had" a husband. We all know he's going to come back, because he's alive in LOTR. But they're using this as the excuse that she thinks her husband is dead, so shipping her with other characters is perfectly acceptable. This doesn't work in Tolkien lore, but if we ignore Tolkien lore, the internal logic of the show makes sense in this specific instance. The problem isn't necessarily her pursuing other romantic interests (IN CONTEXT), its that the showrunners think its important to push this BS to begin with when its not necessary at all.

Forging tends to produce rings that are stronger, have better metal properties and are more uniform in materials. Casting is less difficult, expensive and time-consuming that Forging. But forged rings would be more valued.

When you live forever, age doesn't factor into your brain very much outside of adulthood. I think Celeborn is significantly younger than Galadriel as well.

​@@ChociewitkaWithout taking into account existing lore, I don't inherently see what's wrong with someone being romantically interesting in another, that relationship not working out, and eventually marrying a child of the person you were interested in, as long as they don't actually marry. Especially in fantasy settings with long lived races. The problem with Celebrian in context isn't the idea that Elrond is initially interested in Galadriel but later marries her daughter. As long as the daughter is already alive its not that big of a deal. However, if Celebrian is to be born later... then she would be at most around 100 years before she married Elrond and then they have a child almost immediately after? Its ridiculous to think he would marry an elf so young. At least give her 500-1000 years first. There's no way these showrunners would pull that stunt either. So they're going to have to scramble to explain why Celebrian was off hiding in Lorien (or somewhere else) and Galadriel completely forgot to mention her own daughter. And they're going to have to pull some crazy stunt to explain where Celebirn has been all this time.

Well the thing is... with how this show's timeline is fcked beyond belief... If they pursue this relationship than we're getting into Targaryen lvl of fcked. Like what if they make Celebrian Elrond's and Galadriels daughter or at the minimum make it a plot point where she's unsure of who the father is.

@@MajorSmurf They would never do that kind of thing because of how squick it is. And not necessarily the idea of him potentially marrying his own daughter. They would never do it for how _young_ Celebrian is. No, I think if they introduce Celebrian, she's already alive somewhere, and Galadriel just didn't mention it. IMO, there's two scenarios here, and two scenarios only: 1. Celebrian never appears and she isn't born in the show. 2. Celebrian is already alive and she simply wasn't mentioned. I think #2 is probably going to happen, personally. My guess is she's in Lorien.

The problem with this is that, realistically speaking, Celebrian has to already be alive for this to work out. They're fast tracking the end of the second age right now. The second age ends with Sauron's defeat at the Last Alliance. If Celeborn comes back NOW and immediately has a child with Galadriel, Celebrian will be a mere 10 years old at most by the time the third age starts. Elrond marries Celebrian shortly into the third-age, probably because this was him "settling down" with the woman he already loved for hundreds of years, but chose not to marry her yet until the war with Sauron was concluded. No, I think if the show introduces Celebrian, she's going to _already_ be alive. Galadriel will just... not... have mentioned her... for some reason... Celeborn still needs to come back either way because this show is obviously teasing how it will eventually lead to the LOTR films, and Celeborn is alive in LOTR. Technically speaking, they don't NEED to bring Celebrian in at all (she's not in LOTR and isn't mentioned except in the Appendices, because she left middle earth long before the war of the ring). However, these showrunners LOVE shipping, so it would make sense to bring her in just to have the shipping later on.

@@jrconway3 I would agree... if this show was anywhere close to the timeline of the universe of Tolkien. As far as we know, Galadriel doesn't have a daughter in ROP at all. Yes, the writers will likely puff her into existence along with her husband. Or they'll make Adar into Celeborn... I can see that being a high possibility considering the writing so far.
