Thank you so much for this in-depth video. The other videos we watched did not completely disassemble the unit. We are so thankful to take hot showers again.
Thanks for this video, been dealing with a finicky code-11 for about 6 months, tried resetting it, cleaning flame rods, replacing flame rods... followed your instructions and she works like new again. Cheers.
Thank you! Just followed your steps and have hot water now. 30 minutes or so. You saved me a bunch of $$ and aggravation... Interestingly enough, it really didn't seem all that dirty to me.
Life saver, thank you so much. Just did it today and it seems worked. Next I will need to clean or exchange the copper “fin rolls” on top of the heating elements. They had build up on them. I cleaned them the best that I could.
Thank You! That's so helpful. I've been watching a lot of Rinnai troubleshooting videos and I'm concerned that nobody mentions whether or not they are working on a condensing type or not. As if we should know that by looking. cheers..
Thanks, did what you said in the video along with take apart each individual burner scraping out lint, bugs and dirt them blowing each one out with air. I also blew off the burner assembly. My rl94 is like new!!
Smith HVAC, Your video was spot on but like most disassembly / assembly I do, I have two screws left over. They are longer the all the others. Can you tell me where they go for an RL94?
Some of the outer screws around the burner plate are longer than others. Hard to say where yours are from, if they are fine thread machine screws they are off of the gas assembly.
Thank you for this video. I however am still getting a code 11 every week or so. When I remove the front cover, the gas ports are covered with water droplets… what would cause this and what is the fix? FYI. Rinnai thought it was a heat exchanger and sent me a new one and I had a plumber install that but still code 11.
Thanks very much - this video gave me the confidence to get into my Rinnai v65 and solve the problem myself. Having the camera so close to where you're working is an excellent setup - it was easy to see what was going on, and the occasional voice-over comments were exactly what I needed. I'm not sure if you're still responding to comments a year after the video, but for my setup, even though the heat is working again, there's now a fairly significant odor of natural gas whenever the tank is running (not just during initial startup). Could I have missed something putting it back together? Do I need to replace some gasket somewhere?
@@whocantexplain Thanks for the reply. I went ahead and replaced the full rectangular gasket around the burner plate (which was pretty tightly compressed after 7 years), and that seems to have fixed it.
Thank you for a great video, just a few question do I need to replace any of the gaskets? Also how can I check for gas leaks just want to make sure everything is back together properly. And once again thank you.
No as long as you didn't pull the flame sensor gasket out you're ok. I like the PT299 gas leak detector. It's cheap and it works great. amzn.to/48EhKYX
Where is the air intake filter on this unit? Everything I see keeps saying top right side and will slide out towards me, but I don't see anything that even remotely looks like that.
When removing the two bottom’s screws to get into the burner housing unit i dropped a screw and it fell into the vent motor. Can i still run it like that? If not how do i remove it?
Hi so I’m still having the problem! Could I have missed something! It worked all the rest of the day I did this then in the morning it started doing it again so I took it all apart and re did it, it started working again all night then now I just woke up and it started doing it again
Could be a number of different issues, this is just a common one. Check your intake and exhaust outside, maybe pull your vent apart and check in the intake on top of the tank, make sure your flame sensor and spark ignitor are clean
So do you think the igniter could be bad? I took those out flame rod and electrode cleaned them it fired up but now it’s doing it again not sure what else vent is clean
I had a hard vibration from my R75LS. I carefully took the fan out, cleaned it (lots of debris) and put it back in. No vibration now, but I have a code 11. Any ideas please?
It was working fine before cleaning fan, just a loud hum/vibration. Are you suggesting code will trigger after cleaning fan if I didn't clean burner? I mean, what your saying makes sense - there were quite a few wasps and moths in the fan.
So, I took my time and carefully cleaned the burner and cleaned the coils above it. Checked the fan again and sucked anything out of the air assembly to the fan. Put everything together and it still throws code 11. Any ideas? I only disconnected the burner solenoid when I took the fan out - that couldn't possibly be that sensitive, no?
@@stretched2 Do you have good spark? Possible the spark ignitor came disconnected? Go outside near the exhaust while the unit tries to fire, do you smell gas?
@@SmitHVAC. not entirely sure tbh I’m not a professional I just thought id have a crack at it. Funny solution, the gas wasn’t on at my house. Found out when I went to go cook and had no gas lol. So now I have another problem, my water heater is in my garage and it smells like gas in there now. Did I possibly do something to cause a gas leak? What would cause the smell of gas from the water heater? I didn’t mess with the gas line at all
@@SmitHVAC. update, I’m stubborn and wanted to fix it myself lolll. I found where the screw goes and now it doesn’t smell like gas. Also, the two longer screws I originally commented about were the bottom two for the gas plate? I guess is what it’s called. I placed two of the screws for that big plate at the top for it (the one that holds the gas solenoids). Once I figured out that they don’t belong there I replaced them with the two bigger screws that go there at the bottom and then I missed one of the smaller screws that hold that big plate in. I guess that causes a gas leak since I no longer smell gas
You'll need to figure out where, could be a gasket, a valve, or a pitted copper pipe. If you can't find where it's coming from you'll need to call a pro.
@@SmitHVAC. I have an RL94. I thought I would need one before I took the plate off, but it turned out to be fine. There were lots of moths and spiders. It was cleaned out and worked fine. Thanks for the demo!
@@SmitHVAC. No. Mauritius (Strangely, we are Asian/Africa/Europe). Anyway, mine is the Rinnai Infinity A1620WD (made in Japan). I played with the settings and now the code 11 is gone and everything is good for now.
