RINSELESS CAR WASH METHOD: EASY TUTORIAL! In this video, you’ll learn all the techniques, tips and tricks to perform a proper rinseless wash on your vehicle. It’s safe, quick and I even added a bonus step to help protect your car’s paint!
Here are the main reasons why you’d want to do a rinseless car wash:
1) You live in an area that has water restrictions or that experiences severe droughts.
2) You live in an apartment or condo with no place to wash your car with a free flowing source of water.
3) You wash your vehicle during cold winter months and can’t use water.
4) You’re a mobile detailer and don’t want to depend on needing to have access to a water source and you don’t want to collect or recycle run-off water.

Can I use a rinseless wash on a very dirty car? While every situation is different, you can use a rinseless wash on vehicles with light dirty accumulation. On vehicles with heavy dirt accumulation, it’s always recommended to first start removing as much dirt as possible with a pressure washer or heavy stream of water.

Hi, Pan! A few weeks ago I bought my first bottle of ONR and wiped my vehicle down and I was pleasantly surprised! My vehicle was not heavily soiled (only light dust and a few water splashes) and it was easy to use. Not only do you save on water usage, but there are also time savings in cleaning your vehicle. Mfg also recommends ONR to be used as a detailer spray (60 mL ONR in 1,000 mL distilled water/2 oz ONR in 32 oz distilled water).

I use a similar routine except I use numerous microfiber towels and instead of optiseal I used Meguiars Quick Wax (D156). If I'm too lazy to hit up the wand wash, I'll go through the touchless wash tunnel to knock off the large junks and finish off with this routine. Great video!
@PanTheOrganizer
@PanTheOrganizer 6 лет назад
I like your routine Dave. And you got it! When the car is too dirty, you first have to knock off the big chunks with a pressure washer or high pressure hose. I don't recommend straight up rinseless or waterless washes on super dirty cars. People have the misconception that these techniques do miracles. They don't on super dirty cars. They should serve as ALTERNATIVES to traditionnal wash methods.

Late to the party, but I tried ONR on my cars for the first time yesterday. It works, but it certainly didn’t feel as “complete” as a normal maintenance wash. I tried something though- I put an ounce of ONR in my foam canon and used it as my pre-rinse. Ivan Lacroix makes a big stink about pressure washers spraying on a dirty car, so I figured I would cheat and use this instead of a foaming soap. I liked it- it rinsed clean and left the paint extra hydrophobic while I washed it. Rinseless and waterless wash application is okay, the product does work, but I think I will stick with regular maintenance wash practices and add this to the arsenal instead of trying to replace others with this.

I live in a townhome with no running water so all I have are rinseless washes. If the wheels aren’t too bad I just give em a quick wipe down with ONR. If they’re pretty dirty, I use a high quality 2 gallon sprayer and use dedicated tire and wheel cleaners and even APC the fender wells and just rinse off with the sprayer. To do all 4 wheels I usually end up using less than a gallon of water to rinse off the chemicals and all the filth after scrubbing. Has worked pretty good for me, just takes a bit longer than using a pressure washer

That was good demo thank you. I just have a few question please. 1# What is that measuring cup on of the (No Rinse) bottle and how do you use it. 2# What is the percentage of (No Rinse) per water mixture you use in the sprayer bottle. 3# What type of towel did you use for the Sealant.
@PanTheOrganizer
@PanTheOrganizer 4 года назад
1) It's called a Pro Blend (which I purchased from AutoGeek). It allows you to easily measure the amount of liquid you need in ounces, but simply squeezing the bottle. 2) Always the same 256:1 standard dilution. So you would prepare a big mix in a 5 gallon bucket. 0.5oz of ONR for every gallon of water. You then dunk your spray bottle in the solution to fill it up, and bingo, you have a pre-treat spray. 3) I pretty much always use towels from The Rag Company. The towel I recommend for use with ONR for rinseless washes is the ultra plush "The Minx". Here's a link: amzn.to/33B05Rx I hope that answers your questions. How did you discover my channel by the way? Also, to learn everything about microfibers, check out a series of videos I made with Levi Gates, an expert at The Rag Company, where we demystify everything about microfibers. Luke from Wilson Auto Detailing has a good method also using ONR - He puts ONR+Water in a bucket with multiple microfibre towels soaking in it. Then takes them out folds in four and uses a different side to wash each area...then puts the used towel away in a container and takes a new one as needed - The washing towel/mitt never goes back in the bucket and no need for a grit guard, 2nd bucket, etc...also you just need enough ONR to soak the towels - I thought it was a great way to use very little water and minimize chances of scratches - can also use distilled water to minimize water spots.
@Sherukka

The cases when you have to pre-spray, remember to have even less liquid in the Big Red Sponge for it to work best possible. Too much liquid makes it perform worse, that is an easy mistake to make in the beginning. It is completely ok to rinse the car if it has bigger chunks of dirt or sand on it but I've tried on my corrected vehicles and ONR can perfor even if there is more dirt on the panel without scratching but you have to take your time then and that makes rinsing a better choice, when possible. The key is to be very gentle and not to use pressure. Another tip is to use Optimum Opti-Clean as a pre-spray in the winter months, it has more cleaning power but is still safe and in more demanding situations use a APC etc. first. Don't make different washing methods to strict religions please!

Hi Pan! Love all of your videos!! Question: What is the safest way for me to remove dust from the top surfaces of my vehicle several days after I do a rinseless wash?
@PanTheOrganizer
@PanTheOrganizer 2 года назад
Thanks for the positive feedback about my videos Dean! Unfortunately the answer to your question isn't a simple one hehe. I wash my car twice weekly, using the traditional two bucket system (actually three buckets as I have a dedicated bucket for wheels) and water. That is still the best way to wash cars in my opinion. Rinseless washes and waterless washes are alternatives. If done right, a rinseless wash is a good alternative for people with no easy access to free flowing water. But to remove dust, the way people normally do it is using a quick detail spray and a plush microfiber towel, rolling the edges and flipping sides often to a clean side, to avoid scratching the paint. But you still run the risk of light marring or scratching. So really the best option would be to wait until you wash the car the next time. Or use your rinseless wash and pre-spray all the car and then gently wipe.

I use two pump sprayers, one with water and little bit of ONR, and another with some sort of car soap. For dirtier areas i use the 2nd pump with soap and let it sit. Than I use the other pump spray to rinse it off (defeats the purpose of rinseless). May seem a little overkill, but I've been using this method for a bit and it works fine. Now if we're talking dirty as in driving trough mud, that's a different story.

I just applied this method this afternoon (with the same exact recommended products) on my light/moderate soiled ceramic coated Ghibli. The car came out fantastic. I applied the same technique to the wheels (replacing the red sponge with a soft brush). I honestly think this is the safest method for a ceramic coated car to both clean the car and not impair the coating. I think that my detailer applies the same technique as a default on all ceramic coated cars, which do not get very dirty to start with. If the car is very dirty, I think this is still the best method to apply provided that you rinse off the biggest debris with a pressure washer at a self service car wash place. Actually, since the ONR lift the debris and acts as a lubrificant, there is no indication this method is going to scratch even with the biggest debris. Can you comment Pan about this?
@PanTheOrganizer

This should only be used on lightly dirty cars. Anything moderate to heavy dirt, you should always use a traditional two bucket wash method.

@@PanTheOrganizer thank you Pan. I plan to apply this method as maintenance wash without waiting that the car becomes too dirty. I have a question: which step is the most risky? The pre-rinse is obviously safe no matter how dirty the car is. Then, a fairly wet red sponge on fairly pre-washed panel should be safe. I guess that the final wipe-off step with the microfiber might be risky if debris have not been taken out in the previous stage. As I was wiping off today I was afraid about the thought that debris could still be on the panel. If that is the case, would this method be even safer by doubling the second step with the red sponge before wiping-off? Thank you for your time Pan and your videos, I have learn a lot from them (including the one regarding the three best brushes for tire and wheel!).

Hard to say as I'm not there with you. You shouldn't need a drying aid. Try reducing the pressure on your towels. Or reach out to The Rag Company, they have a ton of experience with ONR and their towels. They have great customer service.

Thanks Alex! Yes indeed, I am not "sold" to only one company. Rather, I prefer to present all the good companies and products to my viewers, so that they can have the choice and alternatives. There are many great products out there, and I like to test them, use them and report on my findings so that my viewers can benefit from my experience. For the merchandise, it's already in my head to release a lineup when I hit 100K subscribers (which should be this June). My viewers have been asking me for T-shirts and caps for months now so I have to look into this. But my viewers know that I like quality, so I'll make sure to find the right company to produce the apparel and also come up with cool concepts. And yes one day I'd love to have my own line of car detailing products. My contacts lists are becoming increasingly bigger in the industry, so who knows. One day... :)

Hi Pan. Thank you for all your helpful videos. I’m beginning to get into detailing for my own personal cars, and your videos have helped me learn a lot. I do have one question about the ONR. Is it safe to use on top of Reload? I’ve ceramic coated my car (CQuartz3.0) and do the Reload about every 2-4 weeks, but between maintenance washes, I do spot cleaning with a wet MF to gently remove bird droppings. I think ONR would be perfect for this, but wasn’t sure if it will compromise the Reload layer.

Hey thanks Tom! I appreciate the positive feedback and kind words! To answer your question, yes for very dirty cars, it’s always best to pressure wash the vehicle before applying ONR. But at that point, if you’re at the point of using the pressure washer, then I would recommend the traditionnal wash method with water and two buckets. Rinseless and waterless washes should only be used as an alternative when acess to water is restricted or impossible in my opinion.

Hi Pan, planning washes for a two week road trip this is great! 1. how did you clear the grit from the surface of the red sponge after each panel? 2. Would it be safer just to purchase many tagless microfiber towels instead of the red sponge? 3. In 2021 would you recommend McKee's N-914 over ONR?
@PanTheOrganizer
@PanTheOrganizer 3 года назад
1. When you dunk the big red sponge in the ONR bucket, the dirt frees itself up and goes to the bottom of the bucket. That's the encapsulating technology of the rinseless wash. Plus you have a grit guard at the bottom of the bucket to keep grit in the bottom. 2. There are many different ways to do a rinseless wash, I just happen to show the way it was taught to me by Optimum ex-vice president Yvan Lacroix, a master of rinseless washes. He goes more in depth about rinseless washes in this video that I made with him: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-gR2QhPWMuXw.html 3. They are both top tier rinseless washes, but currently, yes I would say the McKee's takes the win.

Hello Pan, I enjoy reviewing your older videos as well as current and I wanted to do a rinseless wash here in cold north of Illinois and found this. In step one, you start by using the pump sprayer with ONR but is it straight or diluted, if so, what proportions are you using? I am heating my garage with propane heater to 65 degrees, is that satisfactory for these products? (Mind you it is 30 degrees F here right now).
@PanTheOrganizer
@PanTheOrganizer 2 года назад
You always dilute the rinseless washes, as they are all concentrates. In the case of ONR and McKee's 37 N-914, two top tier rinseless washes, the dilution is 256:1 so 0.5oz for every gallon of water. You would mix in a bucket, and then dunk the pump sprayer container in that bucket to fill it up with liquid to the max fill line. And you're good to go. I wouldn't recommend detailing cars in temperatures below 50F. Below that, you risk running into issues with products not performing as intended.

If it’s too dirty, you would pressure rinse it first to knock off the big dirt. Common sense is needed for rinseless washes. Rinseless doesn’t mean you never rinse. Finally at the end of the month I use Iron X fallout remover, can I still wash the car with ONR when using Iron X and if so what would be your method eg would you still pre-rinse the car with ONR or would you pre-rinse with water then apply Iron X, then rinse with water then wash with ONR and hand dry?

I am now considering the ONR wash for my maintenance clients that I see on a fortnightly or monthly routine. Do you agree this would be a good choice as in cost effective for myself as I wouldn't need as much water or to be running my generator as long so therefore saving me outgoing money yet still maintaining the protection that I applied my first time with the client. Also there must be a level of which the ONR wouldn't be safe to use as in a grafted dirty car that hasn't been detailed in months.

Hi Pan, great channel! I am looking for the best method to wash my car at a DIY car wash bay. I had been using everything they offer at these places except the brush, so, in fact, I was only really pre-soaking, then spraying with the high pressure soap hose, before high pressure rinsing without actually wiping the surface of the car, and then drying with a micro fibre towel. I have since started to use my own wheel cleaning materials, and was going to start using my own wash mits, but have recently been advised that the chemicals used at these places are very strong and probably not good for my paint. I would still like to use these facilities for the high pressure hose, but want to use my own cleaning materials. I don’t want to use a 2-bucket method at the car wash, so am thinking about using one or two (presoak and soap) of these spray containers that you have featured in a couple of your videos, and a stack of micro fibre towels. Whilst I don’t need a rinseless process, it kind of feels like I am looking for some kind of hybrid “rinse/rinseless” process. What would you suggest? Thanks

Best way to clean the sponge when done? Can P&S bead maker be used weekly for drying agent for weekly wash?
@PanTheOrganizer
@PanTheOrganizer 2 года назад
No need for a drying agent after a rinseless wash. The rinseless wash will act as the drying aid while towel drying. You can leave the sponge soaking in a clean ONR solution after use, or just rinse in water, ring it out, and let it air dry until next use.

Greetings. I am a bit confused. Your Porsche video detailing was using mckees 37. Your friend, mr lacroix, was touting always doing rinseless rather than foam cannons and the like. Information continually changes based on who’s doing videos on RU-vid. What are your thoughts?
@PanTheOrganizer
@PanTheOrganizer 3 года назад
James, you have to realize there are many ways to do things, not just one way. Everyone uses techniques they like or are more familiar with. I typically use a traditional two bucket wash method, Yvan is a believer in rinseless washes. At the end of the day, it doesn’t really matter. As long as you use safe washing and drying methods, use what works best for you.

Hey Pan, thanks for your content. Is a rinseless wash method a viable business model as a mobile detailer/wash service provider? Are there holes, so to speak in this method making it not a legit stand alone option. In your opinion is water always necessary for a complete wash/detail?
@PanTheOrganizer

I prefer a traditional wash with water when possible, but many mobile detailers do a great job with rinseless washes too. Very viable business.

@PanTheOrganizer

I put the same 256:1 dilution of ONR in the pump sprayer. So 0.5 oz of product for every gallon of water. You make your solution in the big bucket, and pour some into the pump sprayer.

Pan, this is a great video ! I really like it ! This rinseless method of washing a car seems like a great option for a lightly dirty vehicle. If you only have very hard water at home, would purchasing de-ionized or distilled water work and what about the "spotless rinse" water at DIY car washes? I'm not sure of differences in water quality and how they work with ONR.
@PanTheOrganizer
@PanTheOrganizer 5 лет назад
The better the water quality, the better ONR (or any shampoo) performs. ONR does have some water softening components in it if memory serves me well.

@@PanTheOrganizer Ron Doyle of Optimum Polymer Technologies promptly responded to my inquiry to state that ONR does contain water softeners for hard water. Great job Pan! Quick question for you. With the improvement in products not requiring water is it an option to spray these on to lift dirt and then power wash off followed with snow foam for total touchless wash? Or am I dreaming?
@PanTheOrganizer
@PanTheOrganizer 6 лет назад
Yes you can do that, but just keep in mind that the only way to truly and fully wash a car is by a contact wash with your favorite wash mitt. No contactless wash is perfect. You do need to agitate the soap eventually to lift all the surface dirt.

I don't use wash n wax as I often deal with ceramic coated cars and you don't mix waxes and coatings. If you don't plan on applying ceramic coatings or ceramic sealants, you can get the Wash n Wax which will add a bit of protection on your car.
