I think that this was one of the most stunning things that I'd ever seen. I was a little confused at first at how small and simple it was, but when it rose, and the kinetic sculpture started spinning...wow!
No offense to Vanderlei (but I guess it is) but my first thought was that they made a huge mistake that they should've had Pelè lit the cauldron even though he has never competed at any Olympic games, just the fact that he's Pelè Brazils greatest sporting figure. But after knowing Vanderlei's Olympic back story I totally understand now, and that the Brazilian Olympic Committee made the right choice. For many the honor of lighting the Olympic flame at your home Olympics far exceeds winning a gold medal if Vanderlei feels the same then he definitely needs to thank that Irish priest.
Just come from seeing Tokyo 2020 cauldrons lighting and I’m a little disappointed due its simplicity. I like more Brazil’s, it’s really a masterpiece how a small flame can move brilliantly all those metallic elements. This represents the lightening of a cauldron can be innovative and magical independently of the country’s wealth.
Tokyo2020 Fujisan pedestal should have stood out higher, the sun cauldron opening was rad, but shells should have been translucent, and risen up from the mountain top
The Olympic Flame is lit in a ceremony in Olympia, from a ray of sunlight, as a tribute to Apollo. Then the flame is carried around the world and ends up lighting the cauldron at the Opening Ceremony. The fact this one also represents the sun makes everything go full circle. Beautiful.
Lol as if a slightly smaller cauldron is gonna compensate for the thousands of sq. kilometres of Amazon burnt. They could have just used electric cauldron if they really wanted to go green.
Love after the Olympic flame was lighted, and it started to move up above when there was a beautiful chandeliers around the flame. That is spectacular.
The light of the flame in the center of the cauldron reflected on the spiral discs around it as the flame went up high to activate the moving sculpture behind , giving the illusion of a Sun awakening .
Nothing will beat London 2012s but this was pretty cool too the sun sculpture with the flame being the core was dope. My only real complaint is it was not lit though the entire games only the second one in the town square was lit the whole time this was only there for the ceremonies seemingly.
The opening ceremony of the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China is still the most wonderful opening ceremony in history. Up to now, no country can surpass it, and it will be difficult to surpass it in the future.
I was waiting for something spectacular to happen after the cauldron had been lit. But I was disappointed. Nothing beats the Barcelona '92 lighting. For real. :)
