Don't need no sign up everybody knows about the Rio Cobri River so if u can't swim don't go without persons who can and stay in she low parts of the waters... I am from that area that river tried to take me when I was younger and gave me back when I was under the water a spirit told me never to come into the deeps again until I can swim... I am not a good enough swimmer Last year summer and the year before that river was our playground loads of funs... I took my nephew everyday for him to learn to swim because I had a dream the river was gnna take him away because he would go there without permission...and it was the best thing I did that year during covid...

This young man is talking the truth, I have experience what this river has done and I myself almost drowned right near the bridge and later in the 80th a car accident where I was in the with four others over turned. Truck drivers came to our aides nobody was hurt and the car only the windscreen fell out. Thanks be to God. My youngest son almost drowned right beside us washing in the same river. Too many things seen .. God is real. Lives taken by this river when you are a stranger- could be seen as fable but those who witness it will attest it real.
That's not really what he's saying. There is mysticism in what he's saying. This river is very spiritual in his eyes but not most humans are flesh and digital, not spiritual, so you won't understand his reasoning and perspective.
I would more likely say, " Strangers dont understand the river". He's on point. I remember River in Central Village. There was a Spinning Hole, but Only folks who live in the area knew where to Swim. I remembered folks who drowned a river growing up. Well Explained Young man.
Jamaica needs to do better, too many of its citizens can't swim. Time to put an end to this madness forever. Things need to change with the next generation. Swimming lessons need to become mandatory.

Portland waters don’t like strangers. I had a cousin drown at a beach there. Stepped in a sinkhole. Like it swallow her up and spit her up back dead smh

I had been hearing that from i was a little girl my mother worns up dont just go to a strange river an jump in it u will drown...river dont like strangers and i pass it on to my childer , grandchildern , nephews,nieces even since year some strangers came by our tombing wanted to go to the river i gave them lots of worning about how to enter the river...my mom always thought us to give money like silver r talk to the water while putting some water from the river on ur body while talking , in doing that u can swim until tomorrow...spirit can even save u from drown as well.

So sad. I left Jamaica and used to swim in rivers on my grandparents property in Bois Content, St Catherine. Arrived in the States and thought I could swim and jumped in the high school pool. I almost drowned. Until this day, I have much respect for any body of water. In my opinion, pretty dangerous to just jump in any body of water. We lost some kids in Evanston, Illinois area to the lake and pool in homes. The kids thought they could swim and they really could not like myself.
Every once in a while in Jamaican culture we see the African ancestry and traditions alive and well. No judgment to make here, but in Africa, River Spirits and spirituality around rivers are widely held beliefs. They say belief can kill or belief can cure....take your pick.
He is talking facts I'm 46 year of age and I'm from st mary my dad at the time lives in Spanish town where the river runs not too far from his house I use to visit him when there is a school break and every time my siblings them going to river I was told not to follow them cause the river don't like stranger and I would drown if I go in the water.

It happens all the time. I visited River back home as a kid, but couldn't swim. However, Me Nah chuck off no wey. No, me nah do it. If it pass my Ankle, it's too deep.

So true...I am a Jamaican living in Illinois in USA...growing up in Jamaica..that's what my mother always says and that's what I noticed also...but strangely though..
All rivers are like that , only who understand it can cross it. I use to swim in the black River in my area and only people from out side the community drowned there. By knowing the river you will know where to, and where not to swim. People from the district drowned there but not from the community.
