Ipanema Beach is 2.6 km long and is close to the Leblon neighborhood, which complements it. One of the most famous beaches in the city, it is second in popularity only to Copacabana Beach, where the city's New Year's Eve is held every year. Ipanema inspired composer Vinícius de Moraes when he released the song "Garota de Ipanema", for which Tom Jobim was responsible for the melody.

Favorite activities include skiboarding, surfing, racquetball, volleyball, football and footvolley. The main beach volleyball championships are broadcast throughout Brazil. In 2008, for example, the Bossa Nova 50 Years concert featured the biggest names in the musical genre, historically linked to the neighborhood.
Visitors to Ipanema Beach should be careful when diving, as there are strong currents. Arpoador, one of the points of Ipanema, is a surfing paradise. Posto Nove is considered one of the best spots on Rio's beach, frequented by celebrities and young people. A very common habit is to applaud the sunset, a custom launched in the summer of 1968/1969, when journalist Carlos Leonam, entranced by the beauty, began to applaud, and was soon joined by the circle of friends, who were also present. by Gláuber Rocha, João Saldanha, Jô Soares, among others. This custom of applauding the sunset was enshrined by advertiser Roberto Duailibi, in a television advertisement for sunscreen.
Ipanema is among the main tourist attractions in the city of Rio de Janeiro, both for Brazilian and international tourists. Every year, tourists flock to the traditional neighborhood and its beach.
