@@irrelevant2235Well One was in captivity and well known before and after freedom, the Other isn't. Pigeons are Freefowl and are as common as Pennies on Pavement. Owls not so much especially in urban areas like Cities.
@irrelevant2235 I just prayed for a road kill pigeon a few blocks from my house. The difference between FLACO and a city pigeon is that the city pigeons have never known captivity at least not in this generation. If you knew what truly being caged feels like you wouldn't ask this question!!!
I’m assuming or hoping they’re going to test for any levels of rat poison in his system. People were very concerned that the rats and mice he was ingesting would be carrying poison and could affect his senses. I can’t believe I’ve cried so many times today over Flaco. I can’t help but feel like humans failed him. Except for whoever freed him. That was the only time Flaco was given a choice.
Those were the people who exposed him to the dangers of rat poison in the first place though... There's no way this story was gonna have a happy ending.
Sorry to hear about Flaco, tho I never heard about him until now. But what about that man who eulogized him? "Flaco is like any other New Yorker, came from somewhere else, survived here" - Whoa! I was born in Manhattan, spent part of my infancy in Brooklyn, and lived most of my life in Manhattan and Queens. If I'm not a New Yorker, what am I?

Could be rats in his diet, those died from poison, took him out… But I’m glad he got to enjoy freedom, even thought it was only urban type. Too bad it didn’t last that long. RIP birdie 🦉 you’ll be remembered!
OMG Flaco! How could this happen so fast? I'm so sad because I never got a chance to see him. I hope they make a stuffed animal version if they didn't already and donate the proceeds it to a Rescue Sanctuary or something bird related. Rest Easy our feathered friend, we'll see you someday @The 🌈🌉 with our other belated pets. We'll miss you..😭
So sad…. At least he tasted freedom in the Big Apple. He did not die in captivity. He did what God created birds to do…. Soar the skies and be free… rest in peace 🙏
Flaco, like most New Yorker's, came from somewhere else far away. He was a Eurasian Eagle Owl which you can tell by the name, is NOT native to North America. As Frank Sinatra sang "If you can make it there, you can make it anywhere." I visited the Central Park Zoo in January 2019 and the picture I took of Flaco in his exhibit is the only one I have of him. RIP to a TRUE New Yorker.
A creature that brought so many,joy. Reflecting lights,so bright,at night time,I wonder if eating rats that had been poisoned , may have contributed, nature is so unique, hope a lesson well help for the future! 😢
