I bought the middle weight in August based upon your recommendation and we went on a 4000 mile trip out west. My tailgate does not hit it on my 2024 GMC Sierra. It took a little bit of practice but I love it and it’s been flawless. Great product. Glad I didn’t get the heavy weight because the middle weight is very heavy too.

I bought the Heavy Weight version you showed here largely because of your review and comparison with the Equal-i-zer. While the entire hitch head assembly, including the shank, is very heavy, I always take the head off the shank when I store it. That makes it much more manageable. I have to say though, I've found that the Equal-i-zer WDH I previous used did a better job at controlling sway and I think the Equal-i-zer hitch is a little bit better in terms of quality manufacturing. I struggle a bit sometimes trying to get the pins in that secure the bars at the hitch head. That said, being able to open the tailgate with the Weigh Safe installed is awesome as is the ease of adjustability.

I just got my heavy weight hitch about two months ago…so glad I got it before they discontinued. It’s a fantastic hitch and I love being able to lower my tailgate. It’s also nice to switch to a regular towing ball on the same shank. Thanks for the great info you share with us! We used your discount when we ordered 😊

We bought the heavy weight Weigh Safe hitch and are really happy with it. My only issue is the L shaped pins used to hold the trunnion onto the saddles sometimes bind/pinch down on the bars. This pulls on the saddle brackets that are bolted to the frame and most times makes them swing forward or backwards. BTW, great videos, keep up the great content.

Hey Cory. I have had the heavyweight hitch for several years now(purchased in 2021 for new F-250) 7:41 and have had two major issues with it. First issue was the piston seal failed, loosing all the oil gage fill and rendering the gage unusable. WeighSafe sent me a repair kit that I was able to do the repair. Later in 2022, the two bolts that hold the lower piece to the top of the heavyweight sheared while backing into my driveway. WeighSafe sent me a new upper and lower hitch assembly. I have used the hitch for over a year since then. Only issue has been movement of the pad arms where they attach to the frame. We just completed a 78 day trip, towing over 6900 miles, and took the old Blue Ox Sway Pro hitch with us as a spare based on the past issues. Based on the comments here, those two bolts and the stress put on them may be the weak point for this hitch and I will be traveling with the Blue Ox spare in the future. I have been taking the stress off the bolts by loosening the lead screw at least 4 turns when backing into an uneven site. Hope that keeps the hitch together.

Thanks for the video. Based on your previous reviews I had it in my mind to upgrade to the heavyweight this spring. I had no idea it had been discontinued but now I'll anxiously await your review of the newer model before making a purchase. I haul a pretty long toyhauler that, when fully loaded, can weigh just over 13,000 lbs. The Anderson Hitch I have doesn't quite cut it with that load when it's windy out. I love that the Anderson is so light and easy to setup, but I feel like my particular setup is a little too long and heavy for it. I've had a few too many white knuckle drives and look forward to an upgrade. Thanks for your efforts in reviewing these, I love the channel!

So I see Weigh Safes new replacement for the soon to be discontinued "Original Heavyweight" is very similar to their "Middle Weight" Hitch and it looks like it will not allow for Tailgate use. But, everything is subject to change, and changes take some getting used to, so I do not find it unusual that you feel like you lost an old friend and wanted to let us know that the old friend you recommended has changed - seems very normal. I'll bet WS hated to do it to you because you had been an advocate for the HW/WS. I was going to purchase the TR3 on your recommendation - then the MiddleWeight came out and it is what we use. As I previously mentioned to you, my Heavy Weight had a significant failure which I attribute to an inherent issue with the way they attach the two main sections of hitch together. I reported my failure on the GDRV technical forum. Soon after, another owner reported the exact same failure mode. If two of us from a small sample had the exact same failure mode, it's possibly indicative of a poor design. After my failure, Weigh Safe offered a Middle Weight hitch. It performed much better and has a different attachment method. I am still a little miffed at Weigh Safe for swapping out the hitches under warranty, but not refunding the difference in price which was about $300. I'll not do business with them again, and recommend others take a close look at them before making a purchase. I don't think I was treated well as a customer at all.

I’ll have to say your situation was literally the only one I have ever heard of. While I believe you’re 100% being truthful (based on your respectful dialogue) here is the other side… I’ve probably had nearly 500-600 (yes that many) email, comment, or message me how much they love the hitch. Hopefully you can see my side of things. Obviously my experience has been wonderful as well. As far as doing business. Great folks in my experience. I do realize my experience with businesses may be a bit jaded now that the channel has grown a bit but many others have reported the same positive experiences so I’ll keep making the assumption. I appreciate you sharing YOUR experience. It’s important people hear from as many folks as possible.
@ChrisGillenwater1
@ChrisGillenwater1 8 месяцев назад
So what was the significant failure of the hitch? What part of the hitch failed? Just wondering. thanks
@ZonaJim
@ZonaJim 8 месяцев назад
@@ChrisGillenwater1 The upper and lower sections are connected with a half circular cap which is held in place with two bolts. While towing, one of the bolt heads sheared off which allowed the cap to rotate and bend the other bolt. It resulted in an immediate a very unstable ride on the interstate. High winds made it even worse. My first thought was that the scale had failed. But further examinations found the true cause.
@ZonaJim
@ZonaJim 8 месяцев назад
@@WanderingWeekends Here is a quote from GDRV forum member (Gator87) "Jim, I had the exact same failure yesterday, 10/20/2023, with a few exceptions. Both bolts sheared off, plastic parts were missing or busted, and the bottom metal piece the bolts pass through was missing. I just had the trailer winterized and brakes serviced in UT, and was towing the trailer approximately 25 miles to storage and noticed sway. Once unhitching the trailer the lower half of the weigh safe pivoted and fell to the ground. I’m a retired Air Force Safety Officer and structural engineer, this is a very questionable piece of equipment and in my eyes unsafe." So it's not "just me".

I have some questions about what hitch would you recommend. Truck is 2024 1500 Silverado with 3.0 diesel with max tow package. trailer is 2007 25' Airstream what weighs about 8000 lbs with full tanks. Truck is rated to tow 13,000 lbs. I had a 2500 HD GMC which was an awesome truck but just too much truck for us. My wife would not drive it and it rode very rough so downsized to the 1500. I loved my Andersen hitch which worked great on the 2500. On the new truck, I had to tighten the nuts up to the point the rig seemed very stiff and the rear of the truck was still not high enough to be level. It was close enough but not where I would like it for extended travel. I was interested in the Continum but concerned with composite bars and ground clearance so now looking at the Weigh safe. What is your advice? Thank you!

So a sincere question- why do you care the hitch is discontinued? Or are concerned? You have the heavyweight hitch, so if you like it, use it when applicable. Otherwise use whatever hitch you have that is applicable or buy what you need. When someone comes along after this hitch has been discontinued and wants a hitch from weigh safe, they can purchase whatever they have I applicable or look at alternatives. I’m confused over what 5he big deal is you are making this out to be. Again, a sincere and honest query.
