Thanks Mat. Very good info. I have a ripper 1 large and will definitely keep it.

Not a bad idea ! Definitely try out the ripper 2 though it’s still a great boat !

Glad you got to do a proper demo and your conclusions are very helpful because I only had a few minutes in the 2 at noc but I also think I like the ripper one better , to me I just feel more planted in the one anyway thanks for your thoughts on it

No problem. I truly don’t think you’ll be the first one that likes the ripper uno more.

Excellent summation. Not as much of an upgrade as a different boat. Thanks.

That was our thought after viewing the Ripper 2.0 demo at NOC this past weekend … Pyranha Rewind 1.0

Thanks for the review. I just purchased one and enjoyed the hell out of it the other day. I am an advanced beginner and weigh ~190. The interesting thing to me was that I didn’t catch the stern once where I typically do in other boats. Not sure of the science behind it but maybe it sits down in the water more where it may be up and down for a lighter paddler? I found it very spicy and had to work a lot harder than in my Axiom. It does reward that hard work and plows through stuff while feeling very aggressive. The Ripper 2 feels like a completely different boat from the Axiom. It also take minimal effort to roll.

Thanks for the input. Yea who knows. I know if I kept it moving it didn’t do that it was more if I slowed down to try to pick a line. It is still a great and fun boat. It’s just not the speed demon like the ripper 1 and just wanted people to know that. I can see it being a much better boat for beginner and intermediate boaters as it is way more forgiving and stable.

Interesting review. I wanted a Ripper 1.0 but held off as I knew the 2.0 was coming out. I'm swaying towards the 1.0 still so waiting was good because now Ripper 1.0s are coming onto the second-hand market. I should be able to pick one up (here in the UK) for half the original price. Bonus!

Just depends if you want that speed and agility the ripper 1 provides or the stability and easier stern squiring the ripper 2 has. Thanks for commenting!

Thanks for this comparison. I’m 135lbs, so ab same as you, and this has me wondering if the small I have on order is going to be too spicy. I used to paddle a small R1, but this is clearly different animal. I might pick up a medium first since they are coming out so much sooner anyway. I was a little confused by some of this discussion. You mentioned the stern grabbing multiple times, esp the lead in to that one drop, but later you said you didn’t have any issues w it. And at 15:16 you say the R2 is spicy and very stable. I can definitely see how the stern could be very spicy and the bow very stable and capable, but I don’t know if I understand how any boat overall can be both spicy and stable. 🤷🏼‍♂️ As I mentioned in a comment on one of Wade’s R2 videos, my main two concerns are 1. Feeling unbalanced with all that bow rocker and volume, and such a low volume stern. 2. Locking onto waves and not be nimble w such a long, low, wide beaver tail. 🦫 (That’s how my Goat felt to me on a wave, whereas the short tail on my Antix 2.0 makes it fantastic for carving on waves.)

The small is going to be like a squirt boat. Very easy to get the medium vertical. And yes the boat is both spicy in the fact that the tail will grab in small features but it is stable side to side meaning it doesn’t have the insane sharp edges like the ripper 1. You can literally be almost over and not roll if that makes sense. The edges are also way more forgiving on rocks. I would definitely try a medium. The small probably won’t be available until next year to be honest. It will be the last one to be produced.

@@DownstreamV thanks Matt! That makes sense ab the edges and the secondary stability. Your description reminds me of my Scorch. You get it on edge and it just doesn’t want to go over. Love how Pyranha figured that out. I was under the impression, from your interview w Hipgrave, that we would see smalls by late summer or early fall. He said mid May for the medium, large ab 6 weeks later, and small 6 weeks after that. Have you heard something else since then?
@DownstreamV
@DownstreamV 2 года назад
@@kevinhill.8 I was kind of over exaggerating but based on the release of the scorch small it was about 6 months after so I wouldn’t doubt it to be late fall/winter. Considering mediums still really aren’t available yet.

Thanks for reviews . . . Would there ever be a need to want both boats?
@DownstreamV
@DownstreamV 2 года назад
Yes absolutely. Ripper one is so much fun bombing downriver and hitting the tight abs fast lines. The 2 is so awesome at stern squirting nana boofing and keeping the bow dry. Lots to love about both designs.

It’s how it should be ! Getting rid of that volume in it will make it amazing combined with that bow rocker.
@DownstreamV
@DownstreamV 2 года назад
@@tedroberts5210 it does not make it that amazing downriver. Took too much out but that’s just my opinion. I’m only 140 lbs in a medium and getting stern loaded everywhere. All depends what you are I using it for though. If you wanted a more playful design and less of a sh*t runner you got it. If you wanted the same fast ripper that’s Nimble and fast it’s not that.

Wouldn't you move the seat forward on certain rivers (like would on the Rewind)?
@DownstreamV
@DownstreamV 2 года назад
Sure but moving a Pyranha seat is a pain in the butt. Not something you want to do on the fly. It would be great if they added an easy seat adjustment. And I haven’t tried it yet so not sure that would solve the issue. It would still not be as good as a goat or steeze for running the gnar anyway so for me I would just have 2 boats.

Would a small ripper 2.0 be more spicy than a small antix 2.0 in big water?
@DownstreamV
@DownstreamV Год назад
Yes, the tail gets grabbed quite easily and it’s thinner than the antix. But you do have a bit more bow rocker to get over holes in the ripper
