A break from off-road to help a friend. We pull some large stumps out for him, with the monster M970 Bobcat.

If you put your forks together closer and rip out the roots all the way around the stump works better than having the forks out as wide as they go. Makes a big difference

Sliding the forks together concentrates the power and lessens the chance of a fork bending.

I have an old 743 Bobcat, love it to death, but it is small... this thing gets me every time you show it! Such a beast.... :)

I don't think you'll put letsdig18 out of business, but the Bobcat sure beats the axe and shovel technique.

PUT THE FORKS TOGETHER TO MAKE A STRONGER SPIKE TO GET TO THOSE BIGGER ROOTS AND EASIER DIGGING

A little tip for ya: After you've worked at a big stump for a while and have it loosened some you slide the forks under it and start raising the boom until the back tires lift off the ground. Then go forward with the skid steer with a quick short motions to cause the ass end of the skid steer to in affect bounce. It's using the weight of the suspended portion of the skid steer as a counter to the stump. I do this with caution because it does put much more pressure on everything than just lifting the boom up does. Pops 'em right out. You kind of did it at the 8:57 mark. Just let the back tires get a little further off the ground next time and give her a few bounces and something will give.

There are lots of things that would be faster, but a hand shovel sure isn't one of them. I terms of "use what you have" that sure works a treat.

I just got a M-970. Everything works on it but the steering. If anybody has any tips to what could be wrong with it that would be much appreciated.

Did you ever get the motor rebuilt on the monster bobcat? I did noticed that the motor didn't look like it was smoking not like it used to. If you did did you do a video on rebuilding the motor?

Great old machine about the only worthwhile bobcat ever made. Bobcat only made 600 units of this machine for 69-71.

Nah man you were just playing there. A 12,000 lb winch doubled a few times would have pulled that right out no problem. :) Ask me how I know.

I've used a flatbed with side puller with a recovery strap around the stump to pull it out. Never had any problems and it it came out easy an safely
