Having watched basics series since 2017, this was one of the basics videos I enjoyed the most. I really liked the explanation style in this one. Hope we get more videos like this one in the future!

Some really nice explanations in this one, and I found the final attack on the 2-space plus kicks group on the right really instructive - people talk about the kick making weak shape and this really made that concrete.

The art of playing to includes a sound judgement of the question "do I have to add a stone here?", and for some of the situations I really wasn't able to do that. So thanks for pointing out these, that was really helpful for learning.

Absolutely no problem with "background noises" from my part. This one was very interesting. I imagined being white, and I would have had a lot of trouble facing all of this, it was very instructive. I think you can slowly introduce new shapies and shape points in your basics video that you can use. For example, the one that you took advantage of in the right, it's the same as in the kick joseki which is hugely popular, so I think it should really go into the basics (at least at SDK+ level). And in the bot right corner, I would have liked if you took the point that fixes both sides : once someone showed it to me, I found it very basic and elegant, and it could definitely go into basics for endugamu.

Interesting game. I myself struggle with Pandanet more than Fox/Tygem. At around 27:30 I would not have played S8 I think. I personally didn't feel black to be ahead in territory. And what if white lives on the right? I could see white getting the wall R9 to R6. At that point I would have been afraid that if white gets moves around P5 and P11 we would be fighting about the middle and my advantage of making points in the middle would be gone. Seeing that sequence on the right being sente and having the splitting move ready was very instructional!

Could you make a lecture on how to deal with frameworks?

yes the comment about people have no idea how to repond to frameworks hit home, but also how can I use frameworks to win.

I wonder what this person's rating is now. Seemed like the only person dwyrin played against that actually used his time and was also a good sport about resigning when he knows he lost.

Black ended with one group, white with six. Hm. I wonder how it goes then?

HI Dwyrin. Firstly I'd like to state that I am a patron of your channel and my game has improved from 4k to 1k by watching them. However, I found this video to be very patronizing of the 4kyu player, who in my eyes, played a decent game against you. I understand you were trying to make certain points but I felt you over-exaggerated the badness of some of white's moves in order to fit your narrative. The start of the video was ok. Choosing a corner joseki in the top left that runs black into the area that they laid claim to and ending up first line territory was not good. But white's tenuki to your J18 move was perfectly fine, it was a good move. J18 was not sente and making a double wing extension from D4 is a perfectly acceptable response. I also found the move on the bottom in response to the probe H4 to be acceptable. It showed fighting spirit. If he was being passive and defended, then it was pretty obvious that you get a huge middle and win easily. So white took the risk of getting cut, made a base and then pushed you back with the E5 exchange. "Yes" you managed to exploit this in the end, but exploiting that was definitely not basic. You hovered for many moments, read stuff out, verbally said "I'm not sure" etc. All of these being a confirmation that white had not chosen a terrible line, which your commentary about white's play seemed to indicate. How to steal white's base on the right was informative, but also somewhat weird, when you decided to connect, after saying "this is maia, we don't need to connect". I'm guessing you did this, because you read out certain sequences on the right, where white could sacrifice some stones and come back and shut off one of the maia exits and thus live on the right. All of which, is not basic. But overall, I found the overly negative commentary about white's play to be the main factor that annoyed me. Although I have listened to probably 200 of your videos, this is my first negative comment. I wish you all the best in your career and I look forward to the next video. Regards. Conan.

Well spoken. I do appreciate most of his content, but this one was way over the top. I would hate to be Blucher and find this video on RU-vid....

Bad assumptions. The connection was miai. I connected the right to give him a chance to flee and live. When he instead kept trying to reduce my territory, yes, I was harsh on that choice to emphasize the problem. Now, why did that situation even come up? Because of another super common problem at the kyu level of playing 2-3 stone groups and assuming you're alive. A lot of people struggle with this problem. Again it comes down to why i rarely kill in basics. Cause I always get people saying that they only died due to in-depth reading. But reading states hes dead regardless and i could go got for the immediate surround. That said, there will only be 2 more fighting videos for those viewers who need this extra help in attacking multiple weak groups.

I share a similar sentiment. I love the content, but it's very rare to hear Dwyrin talk about the merits of his opponents' moves. For what it's worth, I do think that 90% of Dwyrin's commentary in this video was very valid and still very educational to me, but I agree that there does tend to be some over-exaggeration of "the badness of some of white's moves" as you put it. I personally would like to see the commentary framed as if it were directed at the opponent, as teaching points. I think it's important to validate the merits of the thoughts behind the moves, even if they have gaping weaknesses and are objectively "bad". It can be a little discouraging as a viewer to hear the moves dismissed so categorically, and have the "obvious" counters pointed out, because they're moves that I would almost certainly struggle against.

Cant say I agrese about your comment on H4 response. It didnt show fighting spirit, but rather oponents greediness. Of course many kyu and low dan players can still have trouble taking profit from whites mistakes, but it doesn’t mean, that whites style of play is correct. Even if dwyrin in the end failed to kill that group, I still think it proves a point that if you want to get stronger, you should not play moves like that. Although some moves by dwyrin are not exactly basic, the idea behind them is.

Sandbagging to ridicule a much weaker player online without their consent has become the bread and butter of this channel. It's a disgrace really.

Dwyrin, for the love of God, stop explaining why one move is clearly best then playing another. No one wants to see you purposefully play suboptimally. Especially when the line has zero risk.
@dwyrin
@dwyrin 2 года назад
well thats an good point. however whats clear to one person might not be clear to another, especially with rank differences. this series, especially at the kyu level, is trying to remain as simple as possible. if a line creates complication, its not basic or simple. if a line takes away from the general lesson of the video, im going to ignore it. thank you.

Feels like you know too much to be playing a 4k and fight... if you wanna fight hard, go higher lvl. Like at the end... those 2 groups bottom, you had to "know" you can rip through them. A 4k wouldn't really know that I feel.
