Damn, I use to do this too when I was kid, the only problem was if there was a car coming because you kind of had to swerve. I still have my ripstik from when I was 8 (I'm 24 now).
When I was growing up we had a huge hill to ride down on skateboards, scooters, ripstiks, bikes, roller blades and stuff and man oh man. We picked up so much speed and couldn't slow down. The bottom of the hill was a T and so we had to turn one way or the other to slow down. Surprised we never hit or got hit by a car haha.
I remember when I was in elementary I would pull a friend down a street in my neighborhood with my bike. We stopped doing it when he hit a puddle then crashed into someone’s rose bush.
I usted to ride downhill with my ripstick, it was much more stable than a skateboard but it was also scary as fuck because I couldn't slow down. I was even faster than the cars, the safiest way to use it was sit down on it so I can use my shoes to break the speed.
@@aileens2960 if you can, try jumping off. Usually works for me because it often immediately stops once I hop off. If not either let it slow down on its own or drive into the grass for a soft landing.
I love the speed of shooting downhill on a board with two wheels. The only thing is, the hills surrounding my house are filled with uneven pavement so I have to make sure I don't hit one. Otherwise, I die.
I did something like this but at a school. There was a super steep hill that cars would sometimes use to access the lower schoolyard. It’s Bonny doon school btw. I went down most of the hill, there is a playground that’s right in front so when your going 25 mph on a thing that’s designed for nine year olds to ride at 8 mph, and you have to make a turn before you hit this 6 inch tall barrier with about 25 feet between the hill and the playground, you gotta be clutch. Not to mention this thing is super hard to keep steady at a high speed. It’s super hard to turn without dying and the worst part is that it doesn’t have brakes. You have to do as many turns as you can to slow down in the schoolyard and then go through a tight hallway kinda thing into the back parking lot. It was an awful idea. Way more terrifying than I expected.
This is nostalgic for some reason. Kids 10 years ago had better trends, higher energy and would actually go outside and do things like this. Man do I miss those times
I did this once, but a car started coming and I didn’t have any way to stop at that speed and kinda panicked so I just rode off the road and wound up taking a tumble in some gravel. Have some scars on my elbow from it lol. Pretty unsafe thing to do tbh. The hill I was on was much steeper but shorter than this one though. Oh and the car actually turned before it would have got to me and just didn’t use a turn signal so I would’ve been fine just riding so long as I didn’t hit a rock lol. I was a kid tho so just kinda panicked mostly lol
Yeah they work but they do not really slow you down. Only way to slow down is to ride up a bit with each curve. But once you are to fast do do that it is over
I always loved riding down hills on a ripstick despite it being the most terrifying experience as there’s no way to brake I once had an accident where I jumped off trying to match speed I come off at only for me to faceplant to the concrete 💀 I’ve tried to install v brakes off a bike it does work but interferes with the swivel motion of the rear wheel so unfortunately may need to redesign it also doubt it has much braking force
lean either to the front or back while putting some weight on either side so you don’t fall then you will gradually slow down and then you can just skit it on the floor or jump off
