Great vid- its ok to put a sense of blame on companies- making a good quality product is very important- its called integrity. Glad i found ya i enjoy your honesty.
The only thing that's changed is how much more confident you come across in this video as compared to the last one about the k2. The fact of the matter is if you want a board that checks all the boxes budget, rgb, wireless, hot swappable. I dont think there are many options out there, the keyboards you review on this are missing atleast one of those features so no the k2 is still the go to board for all the features at a cheap price..
@@pqdb7303 I got a cat instead. much more reliable and they at least push stuff off a desktop instead of spilling it on the keyboard. The worst part is my former g/f wouldn't even offer to replace it. saying, you have so many keyboards why do you need to replace that keyboard? completely oblivious to the value of that keyboard.
You're saying it like it's a bad thing that she tried to clean it with running water. Probably would've worked if you cleaned and dried it properly and didn't plug it in for another day or two.
@@RCmies Tried that. Didn't work. I put it in a drying box for a month after removing the keycaps and drying all the water I could reach. The motherboard itself was floating in the water. when she gave it to me? All she did after rinsing it was set it on the counter where it sat for two days till I got home from an off-site meeting. I can confirm the switches are working but they are soldered to the motherboard. I can trace power to the first chip but no voltage over the chip. I can't replace the chip since I lack the required equipment. I can replace the entire keeb for $69 so it's not worth spending hours de-soldering and testing the mainboard. then replacing chips and capacitors that have been shorted out. All its good for now is parts unless I get a replacement motherboard. Then I have to de-solder and resolder the switches.
Omg I just found your channel tonight as I was looking at the K2 v2, and I watched all 3 of your videos on the Keychron K2 (and K2 v2). I had no idea the lore went so deep. Thank you for the succinct reviews and the emotional rollercoaster. 10/10 would laugh and cry again.
I just ordered the K2v2 hotswap. It's pretty much the only affordable prebuilt 75% option that has an ISO option, therefore it is still by default the best option. May end up giving it the typical silicone case filling, switch lubing, stab swap treatment, may not. Was planning on going a bit more premium for my next keyboard, but my current one is rapidly deteriorating and i'm in acute need of a new one so i went the easy route and ordered the K2.
My exact issue as well. I've been heavily considering buying the KC84s and just learn the ANSI layout, however, I don't want to be forced to do that just to get a slightly better keyboard. I seriously don't understand how most keyboard manufacturers dont offer both ANSI and ISO layouts now that they often offer both 60%, 65%, TKL and so on. IMO it's a loss of a huge consumer group on their part and seriously annoying for us non-americans
I appreciate your honest update to your past recommendation and taking the time to reevaluate the product in an unbiased manner. All while being yourself and having fun. I love the outtakes too! Keep up the awesomeness!
I appreciate the insight into what Keychron is doing! I actually picked up the Keychron C1 after seeing all it could do for such a low price. Swapped in some Kailh Box Pinks and I'm really enjoying it now!
I've had my eye on the RK84 for a while now. I just thought it seemed like the perfect place to start in the world of mechanical keyboards and customizing them. I might get it for myself as a graduation present this year... hmm...
PHEW! You can't imagine how happy you've made me. I just bought my first mechanical keyboard last week and I got me this Royal Kludge (after some crazy research). I love my RK keyboard and you made me love it even more. So happy I made the right choice!
For some reason I've been nervous about trying a 75% keyboard because it feels like it would be claustrophobic, but the RK84 being both cheap and moddable has me tempted
Usually special keyboard software is only made for Windows, and that is completely uninteresting to me as I use Mac and Linux. I purchased the Keychron K2 *because* it doesn't require any special software, it's a great keyboard, I can configure it as I wish, and I don't need any custom junk software.
@@awwkaw9996 Yeah me too I use linux and most keyboard manufacturers dont support it even though linux is fully willing to support their produst. Its very frustrating
I got the RK84 looks great but they should've include keycaps for Mac users, I also don't care about software. Probably going to pic up the K2 like how it sounds nd like the black and white theme
best timing , i have looking for k2v2 from 2months and until now its out of stock and since then i have been waiting now i don't need to wait really really thank you ❤
I’m by no means a keyboard enthusiast, however, I’m a programmer, so having a good keyboard is a must for me. I love mine so much that I’ve been recommending the K2 to anyone looking for a nice keyboard. I love its wireless connection and the general typing experience. Sound? I’ve heard the “sound tests” made by some reviewers, but honestly I don’t see myself choosing one keyboard (or switches) over the others just by how they sound. The K2 for me sounds... great... I guess... SW seems to be a good option to have, but for some general customizations I’m using autohotkey; it works great! My point is, this keyboard is awesome for those just looking for a great typing experience (without being nit-picky) and nothing more.
@@mocachino__ Damn I don't think I have ever, and I mean ever, used the right hand shift key... Like.. After reading your comment I legit had to look down to remember where the right shift key even is! Everyone uses their peripherals so differently and it's always interesting to hear about something like this. The numpad and arrow keys being well spaced are the important part for me!
I have been hearing a lot of problematic stuff about Keychron on places like Reddit lately, so I was feeling worried about the K2 V2 that I bought some months ago as my first mech keyboard. However, I do appreciate what you said at the end about not blaming yourself if you got a K2 before. For me, the K2 V2 just feels nice, which is all I needed after years of hurting my fingers on laptop keys. And I'll stick to it until the day it gives out. Maybe then, the competition will give me something interesting to try. More power to you. Stay safe always.
i inherited my husband's old K2 (non-hotswappable) when he upgraded and it honestly got me into keyboard modding and custom mechanical keyboards! i have two other options that are hot-swappable and sound much nicer with more modding options and yet for some reason i still go back to my K2 for primary use. dunno why, i just love it
I bought the RK84 after my wife told me to calm down off the custom KB hype. As a first keyboard anyway. I'm very glad she did because I love the board. I ordered some Gazzew BobAgum silent linears to pair together. The board feels very premium for what it is. During your blind test, I figured the RK84 was either the first or second option due to the factory lubed stabs
Channels like yours really make my day, my boss said all computer keyboards were the same, so I recommended him your channel, he was like: "ok... im wrong"
I bought a K6 a few weeks ago and I really like it. I also have the RK71 and there is a big difference in how it feels and sounds. I prefer the Keychron. I also saw that many people had issues with their Keychrons but they seem to have sent new keebs to all of those people which gave me confidence when buying one. I'll do some mods to my K6 and really make it mine. if you also have one, don't stress, just because there are better keyboards out, it doesn't make your sh*t.
I have been using my RK84 for a couple of months now, and despite the loss of the two USB type A ports on the board, I love using it. It's really bang for the buck.
I may be dated, but I like the Filco Majestouch Ninja TKL a lot. The lettering facing towards the eyes instead of bird's eye view is icing on the cake.
In my opinion. The L80 and RK 84 sounded great. I've looked at stock sound test for the K2 and reviews. I really like it! It seems like a great keyboard for its price. I'm hoping to get the k2 soon. Thank you Switchyyyy
4 > 2 > 1 > 3 on the sound. I love these custom keyboard options but the make or break it factor for me is if they have international layouts or not. Many only support US English unfortunately. Also extra key caps for Mac/PC modifier keys is a nice touch.
well, I found a k2 with a nordic layout, and that is a must. Most "good" keyboards on the market don't offer this specific type of keycap. And getting a keycap set that fits a nordic 75% layout is easier said than done. Gonna have to schtick with my k2 I guess.
Personally, I won't be happy until keyboards in this price range ship with appropriate national layouts. If a keyboard has a 1000 kr/100 € price tag, there is no excuse to save a few cents on logistics by cramming 3 layouts into 1 big mess.
You guys should look at the Tecsee purple panda switch, for 70 it’s about $30 they have a POM stem and a PME housing, btw they are really good for the price, also they feel a little bit like Holy Pandas, just more budget.
I understand your points, I chose a Keychron K6 because as a french-canadian, I was searching for an ISO layout which is still pretty uncommon. A new PBT keycap set and I'm a happy camper but I'm pretty new to the game. I will surely become more critical with use.
I have the K2 V2 and from your sound test I could guess right away which keyboard it was! I hear ya, but I still really love my keyboard. No problems at all with mine, so far. But all of this competition is good, regardless. I just like the fact that it's mac compatible without needing to mess around or fuss with it. Keep up the great content!
I personally prefer ISO layout and was able to get the K2 in a UK ISO format in stock whilst I was looking for a keyboard, that ended up being the final factor in making choice. Thankfully I’m yet to find an issue I couldn’t solve with a mod.
it's all fun and games when you're an ANSI user. Us ISO users, on the other hand, have to suck it up and use whatever is available. or conform to not having all of the needed keys and use ANSI keebs.
I still ordered a K2 because it seemed more Mac ready. I know they both work on Mac and Windows, but the K2 had the key caps already in the box for MacOS.
just got the rk84 a week ago. amazing keyboard for the price. It is hot swappable and has a real good bluetooth connection. Happy to see it being recommended here.
Welp, trend moves on. And people start using new stuff. If you want to follow trend, go on. It only gonna poke a hole in your wallet. Me? I'm pretty content with using Space65
I'm this close to pulling the trigger on a K2V2, then happened upon your video. I watched, I listened, I absorbed; and you know what? I heard the "blind sound tests" and #3 was clearly the one that resonated with me. Thanks for helping me move ever-closer to my decision.
And here I was considering getting a K8, since a Keyboard with both wireless and wired modes (to switch between my gaming rig and a laptop without having to unplug cables and stuff) would improve my QoL. The RK84 seems like a nice, probably better alternative (I prefer TKL but since the RK84 technically has the same keys, shouldn't be much of an issue), sad that it's only in white it seems, and other RK keyboards that are in black don't seem to be up to par.
This is so bittersweet for me, since your channel is what first led me to Keychron. Bought the K2 and currently using the K8 (until I’m summoned by the GMMK Pro flex batch overlords). You’re right - they worked well but there’s better stuff on the market today!
What bothers me the most about Keychron is their keycaps are SO cheap. The paint starts to come off after a few months' usage. I REALLY LOVE the grey keycaps and the font that they use on them, they look super clean but it's a shame that they don't last long and I couldn't find any keycaps on that market which looks about the same.
I got my sister a Keychron for Christmas, and upon borrowing her keyboard a few weekends ago when working from her place, I noticed a small chip on the left shift key. I thought maybe she was rough with the keyboard or something, but it's nice to hear that at least the quality issue is something more widespread beyond her use.
But it's not cheap. It cost like 50usd to buy their stupid keycaps. I have a shitty 10usd keyboard that I used for many years and the keycaps still look brand new
I never “got” the whole K2 thing. I bought one last year and after 2 weeks of daily use I realized I couldn’t see the dang keys. I’m not a touch typist and the dark color of the keys was causing me to mistype too much. After spending a week of messages with their support trying to see if I could buy the white keys only to be told they aren’t available I said heck with this and returned it. Went and bought a DAS Keyboard Pro and it’s the best keyboard I’ve ever owned.
Based on sound, I like #4 for the space bar stabs, and #1 for the rest of the keys I would want to mod all of the options though: Neoprene, thicker keycaps, lubed+filmed switches, and clipped+greased stabs. With more and more companies offering pre lubed switches, and even pre modded stabs, I can image we will have some entry keyboards in the future that dont require any mods to out of the box.
The K2 actually got me quite far with report writing, assignments and all that when I needed a keyboard for home school. It was amazing to me not having a mechanical keyboard before that point, but as time went on it was clear how far it’s fallen behind and how my needs have changed. slightly more than two years later I’ve upgraded to a Razer Huntsman Mini and oh boy has it been such an improvement to how it feels, it doesn’t sound the best (but it sounds LIGHTYEARS better than my K2, especially since I tried out Linear switches from the Gateron Blues I had on my K2) and I love it! am glad I was also able to sell off my K2 :)
I'm currently looking around for a 75% and it's looking like K2 so far - the usb hub on RK84 is tempting, but they only offer the selection of basic red, blue or brown switches out of box, not to mention much blander looking keycaps.
I just bought my first proper prebuilt keyboard. Got a Gamakay TK68, a 2.4ghz wireless 65% with gateron yellows. About €90 shipped and I'm super excited!
Thank you for this video. I was looking for a 75% for my upcoming Mac and this tics all the boxes. Going to order this soon. Also your personality is awesome and your humor is 10/10. Thank you again!
Hey Betty. I have given this a very, very long thought and have been researching non-stop. Thanks to your videos, I have decided that my first mechanical keyboard purchase is to be the Royal Kludge RK84. It is also the first time I will be going to a smaller form factor, from the full-size. I am enjoying it so far and with the amount of moldability this keyboard has, the possibilities are endless! Also I love your subtle humor and silent screaming in your videos xdd keep it up!
@@HyeonsikLi it’s been a year? Wow. So far it’s still going great. I’ve changed switches and keycaps and did the usual tape mod and foam mod. I still have the stock switches and keycaps. I highly recommend this keyboard even today
@@jorel3176 ah nice. I was thinking about getting a new one. I have a ducky which is not bad but for some reason i always have typos on it. Its really bothering me.
I've been using the K6 daily for a few months and my only complaint is that they decided it should have a dedicated backlight button but no delete key. I can only hope they someday release software to remap it. Other than that (and some chipped keycaps from carrying it around without a case) I've been happy with it.
You can remap keys in regedit. This means every keyboard you’d connect to that windows will have that key remapped, because you changed it in windows itself. Maybe this helps you if you use one system.
@@Ken_Jones As far as I can tell, the backlight key is not passed through to the computer. So no way to remap that specific key in software. Still using the keyboard almost daily. I've long since given up any hope of the promised software since it sounds like they're focusing on QMK with *some* of their newer boards and basically abandoning the rest. I'm disappointed but ultimately unsurprised.
THANKS FOR SAVING MY MONEY!! I almost had my mind set for the Keychron K2 V2 because it was the only 75% hotswap i knew, but now i know that theres another option with better stuff, now i have more money for better switches and keycaps, thank you veryyy much you really saved me a lot of money
Yeah, me too. Arrived like a week ago :D :D Keychron didn't ship to my country so had to use forwarding service to get it - additional shipping costs. Then after receiving it found out that a local shop had just started selling them at MSRP a week after my purchase... :D So this video makes me think maybe I should sell it quickly and get the Royal Kludge instead?.. Hmmm.. :D
its still a good keyboard ... and it's also ported to qmk by a bunch of guys in the community so i don't find it so bad after modding it a little bit ... also it's a 80$ keyboard
I got the RK 84 this week, but I'm finding that the Bluetooth and wireless connections are unreliable. I'm getting a lot of missed key-presses and software sticky keys.
Please update if the new unit still got the same malfunction. I kinda want to pick up a new keyboard for on-the-go and rk84 is kinda cheap enough for my budget
Did you test the RK84 2.4GHz connection for your self? It is really bad... But I also still think it is a better budget option then any Keychron board.
@@SwitchandClickOfficial btw. L80 was my favorite sounding. I use a glorious compact for work everyday though. I love it and the sound, might mod it soon
I don't care how fast things are moving, I could identify which was the K2V2 in the blind sound test straight away because it sounded the best. It's the first mech keyboard I ever got, and it will forever be my most beloved and favourite. There are so many flaws with it, the biggest is the blurry key caps for the modifier keys but the typing is just too hella fun and addictive. K2V2 forever
Keycool has actually been selling this form factor for years, and it was my favorite layout until the epomaker 71 (yeah im weird). I bought my first keycool 84 probably 8? years ago and fell in love with the layout. I am glad to finally see this becoming popular as in my opinion its just clearly better than TKL and generally more practical for a very small increase in size over 60%.
Why do you think it's clearly better than TKL? I'm checking my options, and TKL is only a little bigger, and is less cramped than 75%. Kinda seems like the best balance of compact size and usefulness to me.
@@R1SKbreaker Two places really, it takes up much less space on the desk than a TKL, and the FX keys are easier and more convenient to reach. Something like this or smaller helps my ergos a lot by letting me keep my keyboard relatively centered when typing, while still leaving plenty of space for my mouse, large mouse pad etc. With full sized and even bloated tkls i end up reaching my right arm across my body to type, or having a long reach for my mouse. Im not sure why people call any efficient layout cramped. The original netbooks had cramped keyboards, other mini things with undersized keyboards can be cramped. The key spacing on the keys you actually use is the same on an efficient layout as a 104 or tkl, there just isnt all the dead space, and sometimes >1u keys are shrunk down, although never below 1u. Layout wise I honestly think 96 is probably the new sweet spot for most people, it has most of the gains from compact layouts without any real downside. Im glad to see it actually becoming more common.
Thank you for making this video, I was really interested in getting the Keychron K6 as i saw it in your other videos, but after your mention about the RK84, i think I'll go with your recommendation!
So there's no way I can buy v1 on their official site 🤔also the hotswappble versions keycaps which are white see bad as compared to the one with grey keycaps, this company is good but their keyboards are so weird in terms of selecting which one to buy.
I've got an RK84 and I'm a fan of it but when using wireless with the 2.4ghz it often misses double key presses which is a pretty big issue for a keyboard. I haven't had issues with Bluetooth or wired though. I've modded the hell out of my board so I can't really vouch for anything else about it stock
Thanks for this video introducing me to the RK84! I am new to mech keyboards, and had been looking at Keychron just because it was a well known name on Amazon. I saw this video and some of your others on RK products. I am now typing this on my new RK84, and so far I love it. It has been so long since I used anything other than membrane or laptop keyboards. Typing and gaming on this is a dream so far. The Bluetooth is great. I have yet to try out the wireless 2.4, but I hope to try that this weekend on my gaming PC.
daxa rebrand dari royal kludge, m84 dari rk84 dan m71 dari rk71. pantes ga ya dipuji "merek lokal kualitas internasional!" kalo cuma rebrand aja? the rexus daxa brand of keyboards are rebrands of royal kludge, m84 from rk84 and m71 from rk71. does it really deserve the praise "local brand with international quality!" if they're just rebrands?
did some research apparently daxa or Rexus Daxa m84 is only available in indonesia. tbh i would like them to expand their market, because i really interested in their product.
@@raxndau5905 yep, that’s what I found, too. It looks like it’s the newest revision of the RK84. It says it also features USB 3.0, mine only have USB 2.0 if I’m not wrong but I’ll test it later...
what a great review, i will definitely be buying this for my grandmother, she has been diagnosed with alzheimer:(, but thankfully i can give her the present every day and she will be so happy all the time!
Nice! I actually was considering between the K2, RK84 and KC84 and I've decided to opt for the RK84 because of software, the ability to change it to a floating style, and it's way cheaper (since I can get it from Taobao), KC84 was pretty close behind with PBT keycap but I will change them anyway so
Just got the K8 UK ISO, it went out of stock really fast... There is a demand for ISO variants, shame that everyone is so stuck on ANSI US layout for smaller form factors.
Hm... well, it's not something I would insist on. But having the option of reprogramming everything about the keyboard, without it being dependent on the OS or drivers or installed software is a nice touch. There's always the option of a VM for the software, so that's not an issue in my opinion. I use a Win-VM for other such proprietary stuff as well. For example, I would really like to remap the screenshot key, it is too easy to touch it by mistake on the K3 and it's pretty annoying...
