Kings and Generals began remaking its animated historical documentary on the history of the Ottoman empire with the early rise of the Ottoman beylik under Osman I. In the first video we covered the early origins of the beylik, its status among the Muslim states in Anatolia and its early clashes against the Eastern Roman (Byzantine) Empire at Bapheus and Dimbos in 1302 ( • Rise of the Ottoman Em... ). The second episode showed how they became a regional power with the continued battles against the Byzantines and other states, including the siege of Prusa (Bursa) and the battle of Pelekanon ( • How the Ottomans Took ... ). As the Ottoman entered the Balkans, they had to face the Serbian Empire and the Second Bulgarian Empire, leading to the battles like Maritsa in 1371 ( • Maritsa 1371 - End of ... ). The Ottomans continued expanding both in Europe and Asia, leading to many conflicts, including the Karamanids, culminating at the battle of Frenkyazisi in 1387 ( • Ottoman Expansion in A... ). As the Ottomans managed to defeat their enemies in Anatolia, they now had time to fight against the burgeoning Balkan alliance that formed against them with Lazar Hrebeljanovic of the Moravian Serbia at its head. His confrontation with the sultan Murad I would led to the battle of Kosovo in 1389 ( • Battle of Kosovo 1389 ... ). In the aftermath of Kosovo, Bayezid I continued campaigns in Anatolia and the Balkans. The events in Anatolia culminated at the battle of Kirdilim of 1391, where the Sultan defeats his Turkic opponents led by Kadi Burhaneddin. The Ottomans became the sultans of Rum getting the title of the Seljuks ( • How the Ottomans Becam... ). Afterwards the Sultan continued campaigning in Europe, leading to the major Ottoman defeat at Rovine in 1395 against the Voivode of Wallachia, Mircea the Elder ( • First Major Ottoman De... ). Despite that, the Ottoman advance in Europe continued and to counter it, the king of Hungary Sigismund called a crusade joined by many nobles and retinues from the Balkans, France and beyond. This led to a crusade and the battle of Nicopolis in 1396 ( • How the Ottomans Defea... ). In the aftermath, Bayezid had a free rein and he blockaded Constantinople. The Roman emperor Manuel II Palaiologos decided to travel to Europe to get help, but got no help in the West ( • Roman Emperor Gets No ... ). But with the Ottoman expansion in Anatolia, Bayezid was on a collision course with another conqueror - Timur, which led to the battle of Ankara in 1402 ( • Battle of Ankara 1402 ... ). In the aftermath, the civil war of interregnum between the sons of Bayezid almost destroyed the Ottomans ( • Civil War That Almost ... ). Mehmed I won the civil war and he and his son Murad I continued the expansion, leading to the siege of Constantinople in 1422 ( • Ottoman Conquest of Th... ). Although it failed, the Ottoman expansion continued in Epirus, Albania and during the siege of Thessalonica ( • Ottoman Conquest of Th... ). As a result, more European powers became interested in fighting the Ottomans, leading to the rise of John Hunyadi and the beginning of the Varna Crusade

I wish when you study graphs they were also based on facts! The appearance of the Edirne Palace was not like the Baburshah state buildings drawn by Orientalist painters! Edirne is also not located in the mountains! Edirne Palace was destroyed during the occupation of the Bulgarian forces in the Balkan War, but its drawings and paintings are still accessible. For those of you wondering if the Karamanids were Jewish in any way, due to the flag, they weren't. It was a Muslim state. The Star of David (Sigil of Solomon as Muslims might refer to it) was not an exclusively Jewish emblem. It is only in relatively recent times that it has become more exclusively emblematic of Judaism.

@@VilogMl-q8rIt was a combination of things that led to Murad wanting to abdicate: 1. The death of his eldest son and preferred heir to his throne. 2. All the scheming and politicing in the capitol, pretty easy to see why Ottoman sultans kill their brothers after taking the throne 3. The Long Campaign, yes it was a victory that was pyrrhic for the Ottomans, really took a toll on him In other words,it was a series of converging factors that made him abdicate

The decision to bring Radu and Vlad as hostages to the Ottoman court was a sound one. This way, the empire assures itself that the next Wallachian voivod will be a loyal ally and servant of Edirne. Guaranteeing a stable frontier with Hungary, that won't bring more unnecessary bloodshed south of the Danube.

In the history books in Turkey, it is called the Treaty of Edirne, we talk about it being neither a victory nor a defeat, and it is mentioned very briefly. After watching your video, I just realized how difficult a process the Ottoman Empire was going through, the Albanian rebellion, the Karaman Principality and Europe. In fact, we see how strategically dangerous it is to be in the middle of the world. You have to fight on every front. Despite this, I am amazed that my country is still standing. We, the Turks, are very patriotic and warlike people. Otherwise, Anatolia, where the whole world has ambitions, should have been lost long ago.

@@silasz5553 these are the facts: John Hunyadi was a romanian vojevode, even hungarian historians (check sources below) agree. Official documents from the time literally call him "the romanian", so cope all you want. The castle is a romanian one. From wikipedia: The royal charter of the transaction mentions Hunyadi as John the Vlach (Romanian).[11][13][41] Pope Pius II writes that "Hunyadi did not increase so much the glory of the Hungarians, but especially the glory of the Romanians among whom he was born."[223][224][225][226] The French writer and diplomat Philippe de Commines described Hunyadi as "a very valiant gentleman, called the White Knight of Wallachia, a person of great honour and prudence, who for a long time had governed the kingdom of Hungary, and had gained several battles over the Turks".[227]

@@AntoniuDraculea Did he fight for Wallachia or Hungary? Was he the governor of Wallachia or Hungary? Did he lead the armies of Hungary or Wallachia? Did he represent Hungary or Wallachia? Even if his family was of Wallachian origin he was born in Hungary, he was born into Hungarian culture, he was a multi-lingual person but his mother tongue was likely Hungarian as his mother was Hungarian. His father was named "Vojk" which is a name from the Steppe culture - just like the Hungarian "Vajk". Doesn't sound Romanian or Latin to me. I'm sure there are things in the Wallachian culture and history that you guys can celebrate, no need to tap into Hungarian history for that.

He trained to be a knight among serbians, germans and italians 3. Both of Johns parents were romanians. Johns mother is noted as being orthorox and living in northern Banate, an area which never had any hungarian minority. early Ottoman conquests into Balkans and the resulting crusades are extremely underrated from a historical context. Hungarians, Serbs, Romanians, Poles, Germanic states etc. all had to deal with the Turkish threat which was at this time still probably still avoidable if they won at the battle of Varna. Resulting Ottoman victory paved the way for their acquisition of the Balkans as a whole, conquest of Constantinople and their incursions into central Europe. Not to mention the complete conquest of Mameluke Egypt by the Sultan Selim. If we could all look back to the results of Battle of Varna, we can clearly see this event as one of the most important events of the region.

In Hungary its a common oppinion, that Hunyadi was probably a bastard son of Sigismund. It was very uncommon for a low status noble to ascend in the hierarchy even if he is so talented that time. Maybe its just a myth, but it is an interersting theory.
@mimisor66

Hungarians would believe anything just as not to believe him to be Romanian. But it seems that Matthias too was called an "olah" by his contemporaries... in times of great danger and epic battles, great warriors prevailed over weak noblemen. PS if Huniadi would have had royal blood even as a bastard, he would have claimed that. It was a point of pride to have royal blood, irrespective if you were legitimate or not. He never did, nor did his son Mathias claim that.
@gaborkelemen83
@gaborkelemen83 4 месяца назад
@@mimisor66 own claiming to be a bastard that time was a political self murder when the religion was so strong. Its not GoT, its late medieval europe. And there were no thing romanian that time. Romanian national movements with such definition started much later. Can you refer me one document where Mathias rex is refered as olah please? Not centuris later romanian source, but from that period? Never seen any, and it would be interesting to see one.

Brilliant as always. John seems to be a striking Hungarian figure although I cannot confirm him with primary sources. If he or his son Matthias had lived a little longer European history might have changed

Matthias ruled a long time so that is not huge problem, bigger problem were next two Jagelo kings but even more than that high hungarian nobility. Those mfs cared more about how to gain more political power than the fact ottomans were going for their necks

@KingsandGenerals Hi, could you please provide resources for a claim and elaborate how the Croatia is shown as an independent state in the video if it used to be conquered by Hungarians and what are your resources for a claim that Skenderbeg used to be an Albanian if his relatives were members of the Serbian Orthodox Church where they served as priests? Plus Georg was a Serbian mediaval name before the reforms of the Serbian language. I hope I get the answer. Thanks!

@@ahmetyaldz8765 nope, the ottoman empire was a way stronger and richer "country". Hunyadi had to fight against superior numbers in all of his major battles. so to say that Murad was a superior commander because he defeated Hunyadi in battle is just not true. There are a lot of other factors which contribute to a victory in battle, not just the skill of the commander.

No. contrary to what you might think, the Ottomans did not have superior numbers in battles. this is the consolation of Christian countries for themselves. If an event happens 1 time, it's luck, if it happens 2 times, coincidence, if it happens 3 times, stability
