I'm so sorry to be a negative nelly, but I honestly don't really care about how the map looks. All the interesting stuff happens in dot mode anyway. Plus, not even a vague date on when it will be rolled out (not even a quarter of a year). It's just waffle. And I suspect they are actually doing sod all about actual lag and hoping to cover it it with perceived lag improvements thanks to this cosmetic change. However, Omniarch, your enthusiasm for something that you see as important is refreshing and joyous and thank you.

I am personally excited for the new graphical update. The people that don't like It are just not used to change and are comfortable with what they have, but in reality this is a net positive for the game as a whole. It provides better opportunities for new players and returning players to visit the game and also breathe new life to a game that is somewhat been repetitive. Nice change and quality life updates like this is why the game will never fully die out. Great vid Bro!

For me personally it is less about the graphics upgrade, which honestly I could take or leave as it is not a big part of why I play the game, and more about the fact that that there are in my opinion more important things they should be spending time on improving like the new player experience. Now dont get me wrong some of the QOL updates we have had recently have been great but they can do way more to make it so that not only do they bring more players into the game but also keep them and not make it such a huge gap between new and old players. And when I say new players I dont just mean those before SOC. I still feel like a new player sometimes and I have been playing nearly 2 years and yet I still feel like the gap between me and older players is a vast canyon! I do feel like if I had known when I started what I do now about the game in terms of how much time and effort is needed I probably wouldn't have stayed and that surely is not a good place for a game to be.

I totally agree, new players have it rough right now. The way I look at this update though is that, some new players download the game and see how old it looks and quite in 10 minutes. Hopefully this graphics update prevents that from happening, and then moving forward they can make the game better!

comparing it to 360p vs 1080p is overstating it quite a bit imo. is more like comparing late super nintendo games to early ps1 games. i only downloaded the game a little over a year ago and the graphics never bothered me. it still looks old even with the update. it does look better though. graphics has just never been a reason i play, so i guess its low on the list of things i care about. still, im glad it looks better.

The new graphics are great! However, it's not going to make me play more, and i wasn't going to leave over current graphics. I think the new look will bring in more new players. The current RoK graphics look dated as hell. This update may extend the life of the game, and that's a good thing for us who play it.

did they try to do a stress test? 100 players with 5 marches vs 100 players with 5 marches? as far as I can see, the lag is not really visible in just a few marches that are fighting. The concern of the players is that there is too much lag in the number of marches that fight especially in murderball vs murderball.

@@OmniarchOfficial I really hope they did a stress test but you know Lilith, what they showed in the sneak peak is what they usually do. A measly 5% FPS improvement doesn't seem to help the kvk murderball fight either. If the improvement is maybe 15-20% you will feel it but 5%? Thumbs down for this remastered.

I’ve noticed since upgrading to an iPhone 15. The only way to not experience lag on RoK you need an iPhone 15. Thats the source of lagging for me hardware. I was still using an iPhone 6S up until last month.

I am not concerned about the barbarians or even the way the commanders or marches look like. But the map graphics was what was needed the most. Just needed a slight new fresh look and they did that.

In my opinion we should be getting true ranged combat like in Call of Dragons. Just doesn't make sense for archer units to be melee. But I don't like the current implementation of ranged combat with siege units. This is so slow that it is basically unusable in smaller fights. For sieges there is an argument for it to work like that, but for archers it should be possible to instantly hit marches from a distance.

Yeah I can understand this. In grand cross age of titans they solved this issue by having inf and cavs be melee, archers be short range, and siege be long range. I like that system better than what we have in ROK right now.

@@OmniarchOfficial I think the reason we have melee archers is because it was technically challenging for the devs to implement it at the start of RoK. But now they have proven they can do it (in CoD, and to a limited extend in RoK with siege units). But now since all archer commanders have specific skills for melee attacks it is difficult to change the archers to suddenly become ranged. Maybe what they can do is give all players a refund of all their gold heads invested in archers and then completely redesign how archers work in the game. Since it would be unfair if they change them to ranged while people invested in them for their melee capabilities.

To me the old graphics are almost nostalgic. It’s like RuneScape 2 VS RuneScape 3. Yes objectively speaking RuneScape 3 looks better. But the majority of the player base grew up with the look and feel of RuneScape 2. And Still to this day the majority of the players plays old skool RuneScape (That has the exact look and feel of RS2).

I totally understand that... I guess for me though, RS2 probably has a harder time getting younger players to join (players under lets say... 25 years old) and I think that's ultimately how a game decreases in popularity over time. ROK is trying to stay relevant so it has to update, even though I can understand wanting to keep how it looks the same for you personally. Hopefully they'll give us the ability to choose between old and new graphics

I’m only speaking for myself, but I prefer the current graphics for two reasons. First, the new graphics look too cartoony. Yes, I believe cartoony is a word. Secondly, I fear that the graphics “upgrade” will likely cause more lag despite what the developers have said. So, for those two reasons (one being pure speculation)… you can feel free to make fun of me for liking “inferior” yet less cartoony graphics.

The graphics are looking really good compared to the old one. But the games playerbase falling off a cliff. New graphics dont change the core mechanics. I havent quit rok because the graphics or lag. I quit because the p2w mechanics. Nowadays as a new player you have: T5, Commanders, Equipment, Armaments and upgrades to equipment + crystal tech. Thats just too much and thats why the games popularity is shrinking. There is no way anyone except billionares can catch up close to other players. You are spending thousands to what? Fight for a couple of hours until you run out of rss, troops or speedups and beeing stomped by a small grp of rich guys who dont care about money.

Nahh I think the stylized graphics will age better in the long run. For example, whatever looked "realistic" on the PS3 actually looks awful by todays standards, but if you look at the graphics from lets say original World of Warcraft, it still holds up because of its style. But I can totally understand preferring how AoEM looks, that game looks great too

Yea but the phones from 8 years ago are not really any different. If i need a new phone to play a game i might as well get a ps5. Hoping ot helps, but it looks like a cartoon. So better is objective. Its very irrelevant how it looks to me. As others have said, alter fights, murder balls, hour long flag rallies, swarms.....does it help with lag or not that whats gonna matter.

i just deleted all my troops and gave away my resources, not that this update would have changed the fact how this game is like a parasite but it would have been nice to enjoy that update for few days

The problem with the update is that rise of kingdoms always had that old look and it is good for the game. But with the new Look it looks more like an anime or something like that. I like the old one more

Really, the new ones look like a soft focus ‘70s kids cartoon. And you don’t get slabs of green icing on top of ‘mountains’. Some players will love it, new ones will join and others will quit Anyone interested in a 400million portfolio of cities?
