Jean was the very first comic character that I was exposed to and I never stopped liking her ever since. Her powers are very pleasing to me and her story as the phoenix is just so poignant.

@@NP-zv4bf that scene is brilliant to me... it shows perfectly how a villain is supposed to ACT as a villain and THINK as a villain... The scene paints perfectly with the contrast. Jean is trapped in her own mind, Phoenix don't even know what slavery is, she is experiencing human emotions for the first time, and bad guys are being bad guys. Jason Wingard get what he deserved at the end. That scene is was ment to shock us, to makes us feel unconfortable, it isn't meant to INSPIRE YOU, that would be wrong if it were the heroes doing, not the villains.

I quit collecting Xmen in 80s after Cockrum left for the 2nd time. After him and Byrne, Paul Smith art didn't cut it. It made me sick when Romita Jr kept that style.

Them 3 goons Wolvie chopped up in the sewers, Cole, Reese and Macon needed to become cyborgs to survive after this attack. Pierce hooked it up and thusly the Reavers were born. Bonebreaker, Pretty Boy, Deathstrike, etc come in later stories.

That boat guy didn't "free" Proteus. The energy dampening cell he was in got damaged during a battle with Magneto. IIRC it was when Eric the Red showed up to re-age Magneto, who at the time was physically a baby. This was issue 104. His body provided Proteus with a shell. Later in issue 112, Magneto would put the Xmen into power dampeners that kept the Xmen at a child like level. This was payback for him being a child, and where Nanny first appeared.

I remember a panel in the books where Jason Wingard is smoking a cigarette outside and a car's headlights shine on him but the shadow that's cast is different because it is his true form!! Secrets like that was why John Byrne was my favorite comic artist in the mid 80's. That was Classic.
