Arthas is the most tragic character in Warcraft. He looks like the ancient Greek heroes who pursued a cruel fate. In our country love Arthas Hello from Russia :)

I have two favorite parts in this trailer. The first part, where Arthas is walking in the snow-covered desert at the beginning. Blizzard famously conveyed all the sadness and severity of Arthas’s fate through the dead cold landscape and the fallen prince’s heavy tread. And the second part, where the dead father of Arthas, King Terenas, says: "only by inspiring his people" and show the dead people. The father wanted his good son to rule his people, but the people of Arthas were destroyed, and the remnants scattered over the continent. And now Arthas has only dead citizens.

Arthas is definitely a tragic character but so is illidan... Falls in love with girl. She marries his brother. Then trying to save her and the rest of his people he sacrifices everything, including getting banished from his own home.

@@julia_fitz That makes even worse...Illidan will "live forever" staring at Sargeras, away from home (thinking his sacrifice helped Azeroth somehow) and thinking those selfish bastards Tyrande and Malfurion felt anything by his last message. Sylvannas as an elf didnt matter her lifetime...she died tried to defend her home when neither her sisters were around and no other elves or Horde or Alliance helped. Then her death was taken from her and now they just wont let her go. She lost everything. They all lost everything, their home, love, possibility of a family, but as a human Arthas would die eventually..one way or another...Silvannas and Illidan Blizzard took their dignity and they are alive to think about it everyday. (At least Illidan got it back).

@@LifeMeetsFamilyWhat you hear is a written letter from the King of Lordaeron to his son Prince Arthas Menethil. As you can hear he tells how his son grew up to a good person. The fun fact is that the exact opposite happened. He eradicated his entire nation (the luminous skeletons) just to name one example. That's why Mike said the mom is on point.

indeed my man, it is my favourite part too, why? because of the final of WC3 FT, when we manage to see Arthas sitting there, with the SAME MUSIC turning on as the camera gets away and shows the Ice throne... that my man was one of the most epic parts of my childhood, then see him again, camera moving close to him, as Therenas voice, and the music goes on, pfffffffff i remenber my enteire body shaking the very first 30 times i saw it. (Am from Venezuela, so, sorry for the bad spelling)

The voice-over was his father, the King of Lordaeron, talking to him back before Arthas lost his soul, became a death knight, killed his father, destroyed Lordaeron with an undead army, and eventually merged with the Lich King. (Part of the story in Warcraft 3.) All the players at that time knew precisely who Arthas was, so we INSTANTLY got the irony in the speech vs the reality. The dragon's name is Sindragosa. You actually end up fighting her as part of your assault on Icecrown Citadel when you finally move to take out the Lich King.

The underlying theme of this cinematic is the dramatic irony of Terenas Menethil's inspirational words to his son Arthas, who would go on to transform from a paladin to a death knight, murder his own father, destroy his father's kingdom, and become the Lich King. It's also beautifully bookended in the story itself, because the very last thing Arthas sees upon being defeated is his father's ghost telling him, "No king rules forever, my son."

Yup, a very masterfully produced trailer. I began playing Warcraft 3 Reign of Chaos when I was eight or nine and from then until now, Arthas still has one of the best stories of any character in anything I’ve ever played, watched or read. Just hearing King Terenas II speaking about what Arthas will achieve while he fulfills them on the complete other side of the spectrum is chillingly awesome.

@@paulchan171 it is not sapphiron he is with kelthuzad in the naxrammas the dragon you see arthas raise from the ground is sindragosa she was the the wife of the leader of the blue dragon flight malgos ( making her the 2nd biggest dragon of the blue dragonflight other than its leader and her husband she was injured terribly trying to flee deathwing years before she crashes into icecrown where she dies in agony the lichking knows where she fell hence why arthas goes to raise her she is the biggest and strongest of all frostwyrms by far that includes sapphiron hope that clears it up abit

Arthas' father (Terenas Menethil, who was killed by Arthas when he was turned by the runed blade Frostmourne) was speaking to him in that cinematic. I think the speech from Terenas was from a time back when Arthas began training as a Paladin, so he refers to him using restraint over his great power. This is personally my favourite cinematic for many reasons, however the speech that is meant to be about Arthas' future as a Paladin and King of Lordaeron fits so well with his position as a Death Knight and Lich King of the Scourge.

I know it's been asked. But definitely watch Cataclysm, Mist of Pandaria, Warlords of Draenor, and Legion. Cataclysm is world changing. Mist of Pandaria is light-hearted, Warlords of Draenor is dark but epic. Legion is darker & epic.

Arthas was a prince who fought the scourge. He then fell to the cunning of malganis and picked up frostmourne to combat the dreadlord. The corruption of the sword consumed him turning him into what he is. He then slayed his father and tried to destroy azeroth and raise them as undead for his army. That's just a summary of him. I've seen this cinematic probably over 1000 times, and I still get goosebumps. Just knowing he killed his own father( the guy speaking to him ), and his father probably didn't expect that when he was giving him this speech. Yep, he was a king, just not the king you wanted him to be.

@@LifeMeetsFamily Yeah. Might be a wee bit much for your little ones - quite violent, scary and has partial nudity. Still, at the end of the day, you could preview it and make a parental decision. It's a very, very good intro video and the music/song is brilliant - imagine a scary story set to music that's intended to make children behave but it's told/sung from the monsters perspective! A warning about the Witcher (a sort of medieval hitman who deals almost exclusively with the supernatural) coming to get them...

My favorite part of this trailer is his father (which he murdered) telling his son how good and great of a man he'll be. It's pretty sad to see it going the opposite way. He was also frozen to that throne for four years, unmoving, silent, on top of a spire of ice.

Despite ending up at such odds with each other, I really feel bad for the fate of Malygos. His best friend betrays him, nearly wipes out his flight, and kills his wife. That's the sort of thing that can really get to you. For that matter, the same goes for the fate of Neltharian. The Titans shouldn't have put in such janky security measures against the Old Gods. :P

As others mentioned, Arthas who is the Lich King in this video is the one who killed Sylvanas and raised her as a banshee in the Sylvanas Warbringer video. You might want to watch the Warcraft Legion cinematic if you haven't already: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-eYNCCu0y-Is.html This will show you Anduin's (the current High King of the Alliance) father Varian Wrynn. Anduin was very young (only like 17 or 18) when he took the title. The events in Legion forced him to become king.

Maaan, seeing the children's mind getting blown by the epicness of the cinematics and lore reminds me of when I was at their age and started playing this game...before this, the only MMO I was playing was MU and it could not compare... I like your reactions, kind of sad how we can't comment in some of your videos but that's life on youtubeI guess. On a sidenote, the song of this cinematic talks about Artha's Steed, Invincible, and Arthas himself. His horse died in battle and he later resurrected it as an undead, when he became the Lich king. The song is a combination of Latin and the "common" language in WoW. He's one of the perfect examples of how a good written hero who turns into a villain should be! When you find out that Sourfang son was killed by Arthas. Remember he was in the snow in 'Old Soldier' video :) Btw, the story behind this video is what makes it the best short film ever. Storytelling by his father. ( Arthas killed his father and after became Lich king ... )

Well ... I would say, you HAVE to watch the Legion trailer. There are so many good scenes in the trailer. Legion is one of my favorite cinematics. And I just have to say again, that you´r awsome!

Arthas is probably a better villain than good old Vader. They're the same kind of tragic fall from grace kind of villain but Arthas' story is even worse than Vaders.

The lich king was not always evil, Arthas Menethil was the crown prince of Lordaeron when it was still a human alliance stronghold, when he went to northrend to fight the demonic forces who had destroyed his fathers kingdom, he was noble but when he found the cursed blade, he was likewise cursed and slowly transformed into the lich king but not before returning home and killing his father whose soul was eternally imprisoned within the blade, from that time forth, every kill was devoured by the cursed blade and made him more powerful, he raised an army of undead known as death knights foresworn and controlled by him but they eventually broke away from his control. Now they are a playable class and one of my personal favorites along with the hunter.

Dad should know a thing or two... he said he used to play WoW. I'm damn sure he played the rts back in the day. It makes me kind of sad he doesn't know some of the lore or at least ring a bell. I mean, its the best gaming story ever written.
