I am creating a D&D world from scratch. The overall is easy, but the flavor is more difficult to nail down, it's particular situation, character, ect... that does it. I get my inspiration by anything, often songs, it will just flow right in. Your songs also does it, but on another level, it's a whole "Chain quest" that appear. This one, if I may! There is a war in the skies, the world is magical, mortals with affinities, either to magic, elemental or divine, can all feel it, but what can mortals do? Each will pray for their god good fortune, knowing full well there won't be an answer for the time being. Our heroes knows somethings up, but life goes on, even if nature and magical creatures are more agitated than normal, making the path a bit more treacherous, aren't all those scars proofs that life isn't easy? The player with the most divine affinities then senses a cold chill coursing their spines, eyes fixed in the depth of a ravine in the forest. They must go there! They feel it to their core. Some convincing has to be done, but they do the treacherous path to see it. A 8 feet tall valkyrie badly battered, weakened, barely conscious, bloody, but always her sword firmly in her hand. You try going close to her, but she still has enough life to unconsciously keep you at bay. It takes some time to convince her you aren't an enemy. You patch her up as much as you can, give her water and gather food. She is stabilized, but fast asleep. You are woken up by loud clanking and rumbles, she is up, even if you see she shouldn't be, muttering about something important. She has to be convinced to calm down, as she clearly can't go anywhere in her state. You don't have a pure heart, but you work so hard to redeem yourself, and here, in front of you, a divine being! You are desperate to help her in your quest to redemption, as are your companions. You don't have a pure heart or soul, but your intentions are, she feels it, also knowing she doesn't have much of a choice. She tells you that war is raging and their division is in a pinch, she had to go get a precious gemstone that gives energy and lifeforce to allies AND magic weapons, one of their most precious war item. She was ambushed and, even if she was a war party to herself, the enemy was ready to do anything to stop her. She managed to escape with barely her life, but lost the gemstone somewhere. She just wants to get it back, heal and bring it to her brothers and sisters on the frontline, it could make the difference. They set out to go, but will they be the first one to find it? To what extent will it be protected? Will it recognise them as allies? Only one way to find out, but such details won't sway them, it seems inconsequential in the face of their goal. Damn, that was long, but now I have a good scenario for a chain quest!
