(Subscribe: bit.ly/C4_News...)
He's promised hundreds of thousands more doctors, nurses and other health staff in England over the next fifteen years. But will it be enough to deliver on one of the Prime Minister's five pledges - cutting waiting lists?

It's what this Tory government does. They make pledges about dealing with things in the future, which they then abandon or totally reverse. Then, when the future becomes a new disaster in the present, they make the same promises again to fix the problem they created. It's incredible that so many idiots keep voting for them. The country gets the politicians that match it's overall levels of intelligence. Nothing is going to improve for a very long time.

The Tories have ruined this country, I worked through covid, over half my co workers were off including the managers. When I heard the claps I kept to myself but I felt nothing but resentment and the beginnings of hate, it’s not the clapping, it’s the knowledge that some of them voted for the systematic destruction of everything they were clapping for. My pay is laughable, my workload doubled, we lost another chunk of our staff this year because they could work at Tesco for the same pay and a third of the responsibilities. They tried to train healthcare workers to do medication by offering them 10p extra an hour, they all refused. The only thing that keeps me going is my remaining team mates, we were completely burnt out a year ago and it has only gotten worse. I understand this is wrong to say but I don’t care anymore, if you vote Tory you are filth. What’s worse is there seems to be no alternative, Starmer appears to be another ‘beat the Tories by becoming them’ leader. No future, accept that all is lost. I will keep working as everything crumbles, I hope everyone that caused / voted for this dies screaming in an empty hospital surrounded by unqualified HCWs that have no idea what to do.

They are funding new roles which are not supporting doctors, they are creating roles to deal with the demand which are trained in less time BUT that funding is not being given to doctors who want to undertake training to become consultants - which is arguably more expensive, but creates more doctors which have overall more knowledge and responsibility for patient care. This is awful because its stretching doctors thinner and actually reducing the quality of care long term by just adding a lot of small cogs to an unbelievably complicated machine instead of upgrading the parts which are meant to work. This will mean patients will not be able to see an actual doctor over time, keeping them in the system longer than they need to (due to the extra steps being created before they can see a doctor) and undermine the practice of medicine as a whole. This is another major reason for striking aside from pay, as the govt. have purposely created a problem of not investing in doctor/nurse training and increasing supply of medical school places, and instead are hiring more international doctors, and creating new cheaper roles in the nhs which will undermine the profession and reduce the quality of care. Where's our £350 million a week? Doctor's being dragged by this govt. after sacrificing everything during the covid pandemic. The medical professionals in the nhs have been trying to keep it going but this is the last straw, with a mass defect of doctors to other countries pending. All the pay cuts have been a problem created by the government to fix it with privatising under the guise of 'saving the nhs'. The more people realise this, the better.

More staff means importing nurses from abroad and in Sunaks case it means bring nurses from India. In the past few years my ward of 30 staff has been pretty much turned into a fully Indian staffed ward. Every single nurse is from Kerala India. They are all lovely and hard working, but for a young British lad working amongst them it's become very difficult for me. I have to constantly explain to patients what is being said or explain to the nurses what is happening as they're English isn't as good as required for a medical environment. The Torys created this lack of staff when they removed funding for Nurse training. We all knew this was coming when they did it, so why the big push to pretend they're trying to sort it. After my wife had to pay her overdraft off because of dipping into it to survive the cost of living crisis we were left with £100. I’m running a business as well as doing security work probs working around 70 hours a week she has dropped a day to look after our little girl because child care is basically a wage in itself. The thing that baffles me is the higher the band the bigger the bonus. Those that were on the front line during Covid were the healthcares and nurses which had to endure the psychological bull Sh*t that the media posted on national tv everyday and in the end was it really that bad? Those that sat in the offices get paid more it makes no sense. The NHS is finished. It’s proved it can’t function and clearly the government do not give a sh*t and havnt for years. These clowns have had there run in power get them out before the population have had enough. Nurses training should never have been given university degree status as it was. I trained in 1982-85, whilst working on the ward and studying at the same time. By the time i'd finished my first ward placement of 12 weeks I was competent to bed bath, make beds, help feed patients, assisted with a drug round, give intramuscular injections and many more basic nursing competencies, i also observed a few medical emergencies. All of this under the supervision of the ward nurses who were brilliant and we were counted in the nurse staffing and paid a student wage. We were also guarenteed a job in the training trust with the condition that we gave 2 years service post training, which gave us the post qualifiying experience we needed to get a job elsewhere, in anothet NHS hospital. This should apply to all NHS training schemes- if the tax payer pays for training, the trainee should give back a specified length of service.

Here's an idea rishi, make your wife pay the same rate of tax as the rest of us. We are talking 100s of millions in unpaid tax, just by your wife. Then if we taxed all the billionaires we could afford to fix all these problems

What’s the point of spending huge amounts of money on training doctors who end up doing part time work, say a couple of mornings per week seeing a very few patients, whilst they rear their young and never do full time work?😊

The first thing he could do is buy every GP surgery a diary so that staff could look at availability of doctors and appointments. When someone asks for an appointment they could open the diary and say yes we can do 2 oclock next Wednesday, rather than saying ring back tomorrow/next week/next year and enter the lottery of someone answering the phone.

That is right. Make sure that you recruit only English nurses, as nurses from overseas were denied jobs by the government As you ordered employers during Brexit that they should employ English people only which is the reason overseas and Europe people left the country, because they were not given jobs anywhere in England. They are not fools to be treated that way.

Do NOT dare to recruit people from poor countries who need their own medical and nursing staff !

Course the NHS is up the creek with the huge explosion of population here.

Actually, ignorant person, it is because of the ever increasing aging population and their ailments that there is a lack of beds in the NHS.

As has been pointed out many times, a waiting list is not of direct interest to patients awaiting treatment. What is of direct interest is time to treatment whether it be for acute or surgical need. Whether you're on a waiting list of e.g. 1,000 or 1,500 may not make any difference to when you are treated. So can someone tell this dopy PM to go away and think a bit harder.
