The blacksmith was a bro. He was straight up ready to beat the shit out of Naofumi. Him being able to read between the lines was great in my opinion because it showed someone who wasn't mixed in by all the gossip. Also the Shoresy as Naofumi was golden

It's weird how that was even a controversy. As if this one female character is supposed to represent all women. As if they all lie about rape and all women are evil. I think the only people that got offended either didn't watch the show or didn't even care to pay attention because this character is very obviously meant to be the bad guy, the one everyone hates and is supposed to disagree with.

I hate the other three heroes. They have powers that other people would consider overwhelming but whenever someone's stronger than them, they accused them of cheating.

I like the idea that Naofumi has to work with people that he fucking hates in order to save the world.

One of the things I like about it is that once you understand why the other heros act how they do, you almost can't blame them. It's not just that they're regular people torn from their lives that were somewhat cushy but that they come from a world with fiction based on this that gave them certain expectations and preconceptions of what it would be like. Naofumi has to face the cold light of day pretty much immediately and thus and gets a wake up call to how he can't just treat life here like a game. The irony being that despite being the one who hates all the people here, he's the only one of the hero's that actually recognizes that the people here are real people with real lives that actually matter. Sword hero acts like your typical introvert who doesnt really roleplay and just goes around doing quest after quest for xp, not really thinking of his quests as anything deeper than "I was told to go do thing, I do thing and get reward." Without really considering the ramifications that those kinds of actions might have (like the evil dragon corpse that basically cursed the land he killed it and left it's corpse on). Archer and Spear hero go around and have fun, do the "right" thing like overthrow a tyrannical lord (not thinking of the power vacuum that could put into place for someone worse to exploit or how that Lords family could be pinned with his sins and either ostracized, subjugated or even culled by the rest of the people) because they see themselves as the heroes they saw in manga/anime or played as in their rpgs and don't see this world as any different from the worlds in those games.

Isekai's most used subgenres at the moment: - Straight up power fantasy (I'm powerful and I get all the women) - I gonna make my own country - The world hate me, so I decided to hate the world back - Banned from the Hero Party, but no one noticed I was the actual hero - The Demon Army is actually better than the Human Kingdom

I also find it weird how Noafumi, who was traumatized by a woman (thus skeptic towards them), keeps allowing female party members to join him. I mean the only male who likes him and can fight by his side is L'arc and he comes with two other females. Maybe it was the authors way of showing Noafumi getting over his trauma. Or its against the law in Japan to have an anime with no harem.

This show also came out around the time when the VA Vic Mignogna was being accused of sexual harassment and being inappropriate with fans despite evidences that it was not the case. A huge chunk of the internet turned on him and became a mob, which is the opposite of justice. When Shield Hero came out, there's been tons of comparisons to Naofumi to Vic, so the so called controversay was even more hyped up when people started hashtags of "women lie" and I stand with Vic

Oh I cared about that scene with Raphtalia that you mentioned too, the one with the prick she pushes out the window. I was actually pretty pissed and I remember some other people who commented on the show when it aired being pissed too. Imo I hate when the hero does the whole “I won’t stoop to your level” shit with scummy villains like that dude. People like that deserve the venom they put out turned back at them, and I didn’t like that they neutered that in the anime.

If Nafomi walked away after getting royally screwed like that, I would not blame him in the least.

Been wanting to watch Shield Hero myself for a while. Also best use of the “F@&K YOU!” sound yet that made me burst out laughing. Might as well be a Loli trademark at this point.

I remember watching the first episode and actually being impressed to see a story have the nerve to make its opening plot point be falsified allegations against the main character, but then I remembered that it's Japan where people don't have their asses on their shoulders the way we do here. And some of the controversy kinda proved my point that there's almost no way an idea like that get's filmed in Hollywood.

The party kicks you out is not even a quirk anymore, I've seen 30 mangas do it, I'm not exaggerating, and more than a few were exact carbon copies, the funniest one being the one where the guy needs to lay with women to get the powers of a sage, that was the only one that I actually managed to remember just for that.

Was reading the LN before the anime was released. Amazing series, but I did question some of the choices the anime made. I did enjoy the series though despite my gripes. I also like how Naofumi is pretty edgy, but not to the point of cringe like some isekai protags...

What makes it even better is when you consider that Naofumi had every reason to turn his back on these people and just outright join another side, but he didn't. Had he done that though his life would have been infinitely easier and they would have had no one to blame but themselves. If Naofumi were a villain of another series with this same backstory, but instead of remaining as a Hero he chose to say fuck everyone he doesn't care about, he'd have been one of the best inclusions of a sympathetic villain you could do.

It's definitely one of the good isekai series right now. I haven't read or seen the scene of the noble going out the window yet, but to me, there seems to be a poetic irony in play, that the noble is ultimately done in by the tool he used to further his power, yet at the same time it also points out that sometimes, you don't get the catharsis of killing the one that wronged you so much, that you don't always get the sastification of those that wronged you get their just deserts by your hand, that you can be denied what you think will help you heal and that you can't always get what you want... but if you try sometimes you get what you need. You're right about your point around 15 min when you talk about the difference in how the novel and the anime treated Raphtalia. I too would have preferred if they had stayed true to the source material and have her be the one with the killing intent. I think giving Raphtalia a bit of an edge would have gone a long way in making her character development more impactful and making her stand out more as a character when compared to the usual lawful stupid heroes that we usually get. It was a missed opportunity for sure. I guess they wanted to tame it for the normie TV audience.

Absolutely love this anime, I fell in love with the manga when I read it. It’s a shame isekai are a dime a dozen but glad this one stood out.

Kinda disappointing to hear the direction it's heading, though it's not really surprising. Well as long as it doesn't turn to fully generic shite, I guess it's fine. I enjoy Shield Hero well enough and if I were to rank it on some Isekai Tier list, it'd probably be B tier. One thing I will say is that I'm really not a huge fan of "Naofumi's always right" I actually didn't get into Shield Hero because of the shitstorm. I saw a guy talking about some of the stuff that happened later and it sounded really cool, so I checked it out. I would also absolutely breed the queen.

The best part of this anime is that Naofumi relies on Raphtalia to fight against demons (since he is a Shield Hero all he can do is defend) & also his party is full of strong women but this really didn't bother me because Naofumi wasn't emasculated like Loki for e.g. in M-SHE-U in order to empower women, they treated him with respect & as their leader/master. So basically this is a slap to the MSM/Feminists/Simps who called this anime an misogynist & incel fantasy. Take a note hollywood, this how you do female empowerment right without bashing males or emasculating them.

Too bad Season 2 was a dumpster fire and everyone pretty much stopped giving a shit about it after that... this anime only had the whole thing about being accused of rape and he gets back at her, but aside from that, its generic isekai trash, the whole multiverse thing has been done many times already.

I actually prefer the webnovel over the Light Novel. It didn't jump into either world stuff in the beginning of its story... that was saved towards the end. No other heros from different worlds popping up. Mc and crew just focus of preparing for the next wave... that dragged on for 200 chapters. Kingdom building/traveling/slice of life/having to watch the bitch bewitch the heros and they have to save and reform them. From the tortis to the Next wave dragged on for crazy long time and is a problem as well, but it more grounded than the LN.

IMO this anime goes to shit in the second half. I mean, it's cool to see the princess be punished, but I hate that the protagonist becomes a gary stu and everyone else stays completely stupid.

I'm a woman and Rising of the Shield Hero is one of my favourite anime. For every Bitch in the story, there's a Raphtalia, Filo and Melty to kick her in the fucking pants. Naofumi is an unfiltered, opportunistic guy with the inability to give a fuck but he's far from a really bad guy.

How this man doesn't have more subscribers is beyond me.

I'am sure that might sound stupid to some, but if you read the Web novel you would know that Naofumi got the better deal of he got isekai'd compared to the others. I don't mind spoiling it but I know how some people are in comment sections. So I'll leave it like this, those three should stay there. One earned his isekai by being a jerk. (I'll let you guess who.) The other got isekai'd pathetically. But the last one got isekai'd more heroically.

I can't wait for Season 2 man, I hope we get to see some new characters and new arcs along the way.😆

You almost sold me but I know the series goes hard into the typical tropes of isekai wish fulfillment later. Naofumi gets an actual harem & the fact the world functions on game logic while trying to be "real" just feels disjointed to me.

Shield hero had such a good opening hook, that I binged the entire manga on the same day.

Honestly this manga gets so god damn mid once they hit the multiverse parts. The story was best when it was just naofumi and co dealing with his world sucking hard and the initial idea of the waves was interesting buy it just goes off the rails

Well I'm glad I have a lot to look forward to as an anime only so far. My biggest problem with Shield Hero's first season is that everyone outside of Naofumi's party is shown to be completely incompetent. How are we meant to believe that after Naofumi patches things up with them that they'll be able to overcome the raids? So far everything they've shown us leads me to think that working with the 3 dimwits will only hold Naofumi back. Until such time as they get character building in the story, they're not even 1 dimensional, more like 0.5D. The queen however, is at least a double D - goddamn

You guys need to watch mushoku tensei. For me, I would say that it’s in my top five favorite anime of all time. I absolutely freaking love this anime. I don’t even care about the isekai genre, yet I consider this anime show to be a masterpiece. If that doesn’t tell you how much I love it, I don’t know what will. Please if you have the time WATCH IT!! mushoku tensei is pretty much the reason why I f**king love anime so much. Honestly I would go so far to say that the feels that I felt is up there with berserk manga.

They really messed up slime isekais story man. The most interesting thing to explore about god like characters is that they cant be everywhere at once and save everyone. giving the main character the ability to raise the dead and teleport ruins the only interesting way a god like hero can loose anything.

I didn't know they created an anime based on the case between Johnny Deep and Amber Heard.

What we really need is "Rise of the Simp hero". The hero our generation deserves.

Why Women Deserve Less: The Anime

There was a time that I wouldn't believe that people would ostracize someone over an unproven rape accusation. It got less interesting after the Shield Hero got his name cleared. I wish that it explored the whole "corrupt Matriarchy" thing instead of just putting it all at Princess THOT. I liked how the MC daughter-zones Raphtalia but she is basically becoming a painfully common archetype.
