Pardon my misidentification of factions/siege engines etc. As you can tell if you watch other content from my channel, the Middle Ages are not quite my area of expertise... 😅
This is high middle ages. Green represents western Europe (England and France). Blue is nordic (Scandinavia & Baltic). Purple is turkey & Balkans. Orange is HRE/central Europe
You mentioned frustration of die rolling in original Risk, I just bought Risk:europe and it expanded on original Risk so much. There are still dice but the tactical layer is way beyond Risk and in my opinion a lot of fun. It's a good game.
The red faction is clearly 10th to 13th century Byzantines, the two-headed eagle, the Varangian guard infantry unit, the archers with the Kairouan style helmets, and the Roman style catapults.
Try this. Risk Europe, but basic infantry up to 3 times per turn can launch a battle on the small tactical level (total war style) as if you are getting directly involved in a battle when leaving it up to chance is going badly. blue can attack as a game of hnefatafl purple (mongols) can attack with a game of xianqi green can attack with a game of chess, and the Slavs can attack with any of the three as they were a blending of the cultures. Potentially limit 3 small battles per attack (your general can’t stay awake more than 72 hours)
Absolutely agree! I still have the Risk Europe that my parents bought me in 1987. It has the little castles and banners for all the empires. Also the boat.
Nice video! I did the exact same thing, bought 2 of these just to get hold of the minis. I will make what you talked about, a midevial strategy game with extensive combat, plenty of units and a huge map. Just have to finish everything with the Rome Rising Empires game first. You can check out the Rome game on my profile here on RU-vid.
It'd look cooler, but to preserve scale it would have to be a lot bigger then the other seige weapons, or you have to have the guys shrunk down, there's a reason the other ones don't have crew, the scale would be wrong
It’s easily the best version of RISK. I played at many times with friends and family and it does not disappoint, my second favorite version is risk 2210 ad with all of its expansions.
I just paint the siege engines give them all special abilities that they add to the army as equipment that any color can build, 😅I also bought 10 of these risk Europe boxes to make massive wargame out of it!
That sounds really cool! Did you end up making it into a world map/ fantasy by changing names? Also, do you know a good website to buy for cheap (I live in the UK).
@@Mr_Reb3llion yes I built both a few world maps plywood sheet sized 4x8, and a couple fantasy maps one larger one and two regular risk sized As for miniatures it always a bit of a scavenger hunt to find good deals. One of my favorite is baccus 6mm there actually based in the UK. You can make massive armys with tiny miniatures. Lately I have been 3d printing miniatures it's the way to go if you can afford a good resin printer.
The green siege weapon is a ballista or rampart crossbow. A trebuchet is a kind of catapult. I agree with your criticism of the map and I guess I'm more negative about it than you are. Also, maybe I am too picky but the word is CAV-AL-RY, not CAL-VA-RY.
It's 100% best with four players because the game wants you to play with four people. If you play with two or three people, you bid for control of the unused factions at the beginning of the round AND you can't choose there cards, you just shuffle there cards and draw from the top.
Unlike many other games on my channel, Risk is usually pretty easy to pick up. I got mine for under 50$ at a toy store, I'm sure Amazon or Ebay has many decent options to choose from too.
@@alexandro9781 not sure, if I were you just cheak your local game shops and superstore, maby even thrift stores. This game is quite recent, so getting a second hand copy could be difficult
I think b4 u make a video u should learn ur ancient weapons..... the piece u call a catapult for purple is actually called a trebuchet & the weapon for green is a (bolt thrower)
@@CobraWargaming Okay cool. I heard you mention they didn't come with the game but not where they were from. I'll have to use my own replacement then. Thanks!
Nordics liked crossbows and held onto Viking touches like Dane axes. Not totally inaccurate for a later Scandinavian army. I can see where your coming from though, I believe the historical accuracy here is an accident.
I loved the video, but you constantly got some historical information wrong! calling a ballista a trebuchet! and a trebuchet a catapult! Other then that thank you!
