Had many l322 vogues tdv8 and have had the same problems Cracked inlet manifold or top intercooler hose will bring up low boost and limited performance Fuel sender unit is faulty cheap fix And the central locking is a failed actuator in the door Fix it 😉🤣
I think people are forgetting the Range Rover didn't break down. Any car won't go if there is no fuel. I would fix the issues and keep it. With Macaully leaving you might appreciate an awesome comfortable tow car if you end up doing more road trips.
Agreed. You're in the motor trade, selling cars and decide to use a dodgy Nail to travel 600 miles ....towing. l know that you want to entertain and l like watching your content but this episode doesn't give your business a good rep, just your vlogs. And l would have at least brimmed it first 😅
The l322 is the last proper Range Rover! It's definitely worth a light restoration. It's right at the bottom of its depreciation curve so not worth selling. These are starting to get a good following now and good ones are quite sort after. Maybe due to a particularly well known farmer or just because they are brilliant cars if maintained to the standard a 70 grand car expects.
You can really see how Toby's editing skills have grown and improved compared to earlier videos. Really very slick now. I like the change in music for this vid as well. Great work!
For the overall trip you should have filled it before you left home . Especially knowing that the gauge was off . the truck may be expensive to fuel but its basically a spent car to you ? You were going to scrap it when it ran out of diesel ? At this point it owes you nothing ! Spend the time on fixing the fuel gauge and door locks ! It did 600 mikes and would have been fine ! You said the AC works great and it was comfortable to drive ! If it can haul A trailer then make it a business vehicle and write of the expenses ! It looks good and clearly is worth more than a scrap price . you know the history of the truck ! You can't find another tow vehicle any where near what this will cost you ! I think you need a bigger trailer that will fit all the range rivers you seem to be buying lately ! Best of luck ! God Bless
A great program again Joe, thank you, and my vote is you keep the RR - it's successfully justified it's place in the team and should be the tow vehicle 🙂....... and your Dad gets to choose something else to potter around in!
Tdv8 is normally so very reliable, I got a rangie sport 2010 with that engine and 300,000 on it, never had any work done other than servicing, it’s the electrics that fail on them, the tdv8 doesn’t have a cam belt it’s a chain driven system.
Undertaking that ambitious project in ANY Range Rover, even one straight out of the dealership, would be considered an adventure.. to set off with those known issues is worthy of newspaper sponsorship !
The fuel filling problem is caused when you fill from a Jerry can it causes a flap to close inside the filler neck as it thinks your filling it with petrol. You need to reset the flap inside the neck- search for Land Rover mis-fueling reset tool. Or look in the boot compartments it’s a yellow plastic tool.
@ShiftingMetal if you cant find the tool then a long screw driver will be enough to clip the yellow flap in the filler neck back down and refuel normally again!
It's a lovely old girl, give her what she deserves get the few issues fixed and use her as your workhorse, pair her with the trailer! Don't blame the car for breaking down when it was for all to see where the blame lies 😉🤣 great video by the way
I had an 07 tdv8, it came up with same issues as yours. Restricted performance on hills was split rubber intake hose £30 to fix. Faulty fuel gauge was just take the fuel sender out of the tank and clean it. The locking could be the key battery. Sold mine with 185k on the clock, no major issues with it really.
22.52 that shell is literally round the corner ha ha you must have took a detour or something ha ha and that road at 29.10 was the longest straightest world in the road wasn't it!!! ha ha ;) on a serious note its nice to be working with you mate
Great video - The L322 is a classic and well liked by many motoring journalists (jeremy clarkson has a good youtube on it). A good clean example like that is worth keeping - engine is built proof. That fault code is the EGR value - just fix it or blank it off - the fuel gauge is the sender unit i'd think - not expensive - remote control is probably because the battery went flat - code it in again (plenty of on-line videos for that) - perfect tow car 🙂Great road trip 🙂
Enjoyed the video Joe I would keep the Range Rover think it's to good to scrap. Toby does a brilliant job enjoy the video what happens through the working week.
I've gotta say Joe towing 2 odd tones behind you I don't think there is any trip computer in the world that allows for that. General rule of thumb is half your normal economy when towing. Anyway have a good week. Marc from Australia 🇦🇺
Better the Devil, you know , and Oh ! Leave as nature intended . Unique speck, leave untinted . Fuel gadge just under rear seating , easy fix. Classic motor and a good one is rare. No reason if treated with respect, will get another 100k. Good bodywork and no rust , perfect. Best car on the road, particularly well looked after and great spec. Keep it 💯 👌
L322 keep it! Seems it needs new fuel tank probably full of…and the red diesel The fuel Gauge has a sender (sensor) on top of the tank is either unplugged or dirty £50 to buy The central locking if the button in the car works then is just resync the key fob or get a new key fob/battery The limp mode on heavy acceleration/load egr dirty all related with fuel tank. I had the same problems They are brilliant cars! Great video
your fuel gauge is most likely the connections inside the tank. Got a Jag XF that had same issue. Took back seat out took the sender out , cleaned the contacts - fixed.
As a subscriber of Transformotion, I’ve recently discovered your channel. Liking what I see so far, and as an owner of a Mercedes SL, can’t wait for this, you’ve earned a sub 👍
Clarkson and Harry love their L322 Range Rovers, wouldn’t sell them for new styles, I’d gently restore to health then see what it’s worth they have a great following 😊
Grear video. I would fix it up and give it a full service and gearbox service. It will look after you as a 2nd tow vehicle. I wonder if Matt from High Peak Auto would have it.
Towing heavy trailers with the 3.6tdv8 L322 for more than 10 years. I can assure you its better, more stable and more efficient than a Landcruiser. Do the maintainance, u wont regret It. Egrs are probably full of gunk Change oil every 6000 Miles towing. With that interval mine is on 250.000miles towing, all original
The AA left me on the side of the M42 for 3 hours and 20 minutes. I was really annoyed.. I made a video on my channel called I had a break down.. I'm 71 years old. I could have been hit of robbed or murdered in that 3 hours 20 minutes.. That's the first breakdown for about 9 years and the previous one didn't require recovery.. you were lucky to get recovered so quickly.. I didn't get where I was going, I chose to be towed home.. The AA recovery guys were great and so was the highways England guy.. I've learned a lesson.. don't immediately contact recovery, use the emergency phone at the side of the road and contact Highways England first
Also don’t attach the breakaway cable to a detachable tow hitch. If the detachable tow hitch detaches (as seen in an online video once or twice) your breakaway cable won’t know any different! Attach it to the towing vehicle itself, there is usually somewhere to hook it
we should all give every penny to jack you know how hard it is especially jack we all think of you mate , i had a brain heammorrage etc so know exactly how your feeling and its not nice , but god is on our side mate ,,,, and joe your an awesome guy thank you .
If the car still has some life in it try and save it but don't massively overspend on it. When you do a long journey and the car you are in breaks down you are scared of it even when it's been repaired or had a diagnostic check done on it. I recognised the part of the M5 you were on coming from Bristol because it's the way Mum and I come when we visit family outside Bristol in a village called Winscombe.
The 17yr-old L322 3.6L TDV8 would make an excellent tow car ... but the central locking doesn't work, so I'd be very dubious 😂😂😂 Yours Sincerely, a L322 owner (an L322 with the much better M57 BMW diesel engine, btw).
Think you should rename this video "Karma"... Perhaps the bad motoring gods have picked on you for slagging off your partner's purchase of the Ford C-Max🤣.. Excellent video tho,I enjoyed it..I would have been mega stressed out👍
The Fibre rings on the air suspension pump piston have a shorter life than an edison lightbulb. See Edd China's video years ago when he repaired one, then you couldnt just get the rings and he had to rebuild the pump with an expensive complete kit. The smart thing to do is learn to rebuild the pump and keep a tested spare on in the boot. or the expensive solution is replace it with a conventional suspension kit. Treat the air pump as a short life part, on par with about 4 pumps for one oil change. Once youve learned to the weak parts that need regular replacing, it'll be reliable-ish
Got to do that with my DSG, I sometimes get a thump from the transmission, then it goes into limp mode. Many times I've had to turn it on and off while cruising at 60 mph, luckily it clears soon as you restart. Nice video mate 👍
I say leave it for now and get all your stock ready to sell and clear some of the cars that have sat around. Then price up the repairs and decide if its economical to repair. Could you do a video of selling through an auction instead of buying with it maybe?
Hi Jo. Sell your Dads car to James chops. He’s already got one he loves, then he would have a spare when one’s being repaired. 🤷🏽♂️ ps. Really enjoy the show.
