This video is about hope. About big dreams facing big realities, and figuring out how to pivot. When I moved across the country and started building my craft school at the beginning of this year, everything looked pretty bright. My dream shop finally seemed possible- my tiny shop was about to get much, much bigger! But it wasn't just my dreams or just my shop, it was going to be so much more! But then weather delays happened, the pandemic happened, materials skyrocketed and labor crews became non-existent. My grand opening in May 2020 was delayed... indefinitely. And now, like so many other folks right now, life looks different, income looks different, and dreams have had to change in big ways. We're making our craft school virtual to help cover the costs of finishing the building project with a limited crew and limited resources.

You know, I listened carefully to what you communicated. First, your dream is morphing faster than your plan and you've had to readjust your thinking as well as your approach to fulfilling your dream. OK. I remember my dream was to build a charter business and the boat builder forced my wife and I into bankruptcy. He ran off with our money. Who does that? Finally, one day I decided to bow my back, put my big boy pants on and start over. Things went great and then it happened again because I let someone in who I thought was trustworthy. Even my wife thought so. Well, he wasn't and we almost lost everything again but did lose my entire retirement at 57. That guy was finally convicted of fraud and money laundering and we started over again. I turn 65 this week. I am happy and I have the part of my dream that I have wanted for 30 years. A cabin on a lake in the middle of Alaska. It doesn't get any better. I do have a mortgage on it but that's fine. This weekend the cabin was full of grandkids and kids and snowmobiles with friends and family.. My point.....Life is life and plans are judged based upon their adjustability and adaptability. You, your family, your friends and your plan are fine. Believe in your dream and bow your back! Good luck and love to you and Adam

Yes dream delayed, not abandoned... better perhaps dream re-imagined in wake of pandemic. Think community well beyond rural America... small space, indoor, rooftop garden solutions with 1 in 4 children being food insecure. Flat-pack (minimal assembly) home-office desk/shelving solutions with spike & PERMANENT increase in telecommuting.

Don't loose heart. You have come a long way. If you have the will it will happen. Maybe much slower but each step is a step toward progress and the realization of your dream. I know this because I've done it. I'm 74 years old and I build a small wood shop by myself. Ninety percent of the labor is mine. I started in April this year and I'm just now finishing it up. I found ways to get materials for either nothing for for very little cost. It's almost done. Don't give up. Put your head down and push forward. Your dream will happen.

I feel your pain. We bought an old delinquent dairy farm in 2017 and started our new barn in 2020. All we have is a 130'x65' foundation. We came to a complete halt as well. '21 isn't shaping up well for the consumer of building materials either but we both will prevail. I look forward to watching your channel.

As someone who is responsible for a high school, you are right about the challenges of online learning, but it can be done and you can make it happen. I started renovating our farm in France in.... 1992. 28 years have gone by, all our ressources are invested in this project, I cannot begin to tell you how hopeless we have felt numerous times... we are far from something you could consider ‘final’, but it is worth it. As you said: no way back, nonother option than to jeep going. So, keep going. Your capcity to adapt will bring you beautiful experiences that will enrich you beyond imagination!

Great to know that you're not just giving up Anne! Dreams are wonderful, and often times the journey to make those dreams happen is difficult and plans often have to adapt and change, but if you persist, you will get there. You may well find that your online courses are actually better being done by you and Josh, rather than an "expert" because they contain more of you, and less of someone not as ch invested as you. Your building and school can be done over time. Time is something you have, and maybe you can do courses in how to construct a building and have people come and help you...free labour lol. Just remember to keep the flame alive mate! It's the long term goal that is the thing to keep in mind, and the trials along the way teach you a lot and make accomplishing the goal even better. My heart goes out to you. And I know some of what your going through as I left my job and career of 10 years to start my buisness and follow my heart to be self employed last year. Never abandon your dream! I think there are a lot of folks who have had to back up and regroup because of the pandemic. There is no shame in doing that. Sometimes this can be a good thing. My wife and I have watched you online from the beginning. Most online personalities seem like just that, online and so far away. This may sound strange but hearing this was like reading a sad book by the fire late at night knowing, in a few moments, I am about the read the best, and most exciting, chapter I have ever read. .This year has been extraordinary, to say the least, and to see your pain is a bit hard to watch honestly. I hear you Ann, I also decided to invest everything into my business in 2019-2020 and had to put my main project on hold for a while. It will work out if you keep at it though. You just get that roof on, then wait until things open up again and run a few in person courses on barn building. That should keep you above water while you finish the building. Not the ideal timeframe I know, but you could start teaching before the school is “ready.”

Oh my dearest Anne... I have been watching you now for a couple of years. Ever since April first introduced you. I don't comment much, but I felt compelled to do so now. You have so very much to offer, and God is not done with you yet! Now more than ever your skills and abilities are needed in this country. Your faith and commitment to this community has not gone unnoticed. Please dear, stand tall and strong for those who struggle much more than you, and believe that He will see you through. I know you suffer from depression, but God will see you through (I'm sure that your parents are telling you this also). This is the solution. Forget the spoon carving for now, ho wants to sign up for a week of "Workshop & Craft School Construction" ? You can use the course fee to buy your materials as you go. Free camping onsite, ie. BYO accommodation.

Anne you are teaching how to get through the hard times right now with the wise words from your grandfather to what you are learning yourself and sharing with us. I know the pain and heavy heart that you have right now but you will get through this and come out so much stronger and wiser and be able to teach from that. You are learning the lessons right now that you want to share and teach and what better way to teach something than from going through it. I believe and have had it proved to me many times that what we can not control is where we learn the most, and also that everything happens for a reason even if we do not understand why. You may be going through all of this because someone that crosses you path is going to need you to know and help them with something you have learned from all of this. Even though it is very hard on you guys right now you will come out on the other side of this so much stronger. What we learn today is what we will need for the future. You can not put a roof on until you complete a solid foundation. I believe you are learning something very important right now that you are going to need and that is going to help so many other people. I have started over from nothing 3 times in my life and each time I have come back stronger and moved further ahead each time. I do not believe you are going to lose anything but are going to gain so much. Just know that we are with you and will do what we can to help. You will make this happen because it is too good of a thing for it will not work out. Anne. Believe it or not. You are an inspiration and show one saying that I live by. I would rather fail a thousand times than to never try once. You are showing that here and now. You have not failed from what I see and hear. You have over come and adapted as it all came at you. I love what your doing and the love that you show in this video. My prayers are with you and all that are working so hard with you to make it all happen. Keep your head held high don’t look back and keep the horizon in your sight. You will succeed! I can hear it in your voice. My sister was teaching cooking classes in her home and was doing quite well. The virus hit and shut down her business. Hi Anne. I know how you feel. I am in the same situation actually. In Dec 2019 I resigned from my well paid corpo management job to switch my career 180 deg and become a woodworker. I had a contract until end of March. And then guess what happened... I didn't start the business to this day, I am waiting. Fortunately I made the workshop in my house, and had savings from sold apartment so for now I manage being unemployed by making home renovation and paying myself instead of someone else. But still, the situation of no income is not encouraging, to say the least. But we will prevail! All the best from Europe.

Adapt and overcome is the only option. Borrow some tarp for the roof, get an extra layer of sealant on the pillars, keep pushing and comeback on the other end bigger than ever.

The dream is always the easy part. You always see the finished dream in you mind! Once you commit and you strap in to that rollercoaster called reality you realize there is only so much you prepare for and so much more you can’t anticipate that will happen! You made the right decision, don’t ever doubt that! No reason reason to quit now you’re already all in at this point it can only really go one direction. Just keep putting one foot in front of the other and you end up exactly where you were headed, eventually! Anyone who come through that place and learns from you will know without question that you’re always going to give them everything you got! Once you’re there no one will ever wonder if you’re just phoning it in! Best wishes you’ve got a huge community of support out here don’t be afraid to ask for help if you need to! Maybe not monetary but you have a lot of tradesmen and women’s hands that won’t hesitate to see you achieve your dream! Thank you for sharing your struggles along with your victories!

Anne, I truly wish I could writ you a check and get the building completed. Sadly, we have all suffered seemingly unsurmountable financial losses this year. All I can offer is my continued prayers for you both to have the wisdom to make the next best decision. You may need to tarp the buildings and set that work aside until both lumber prices decline and you can store up the cash to complete. One opting for lower material cost is the change some of the material option to be able to use lower cost ones from places like a local sawmill. Personally, I am of the believe the challenges are going to get somewhat worse before they get better. Here is one option: Put the woodworking school and classes on starting a business aside. Get back to the soil... that is the key. Growing food will be essential for everyone now more than ever. I spent more than 1/2 my time in the garden this year and am still preparing beds for next year. People will pay for the simple knowledge of how to start a small garden with no money. I might be wrong, but at least you can have the healing power of the earth treat you and heal you with your hands in the dirt growing your own food. Peace, Walter

Started a woodworking shop in the basement of my job. Spent so much time researching and buying equipment for what I needed. Everything suddenly skyrocketed. The doors closed faster than it had opened.

I’m so sorry you’re struggling. I know exactly how you feel. My primary vocation requires clients to come into my office. Covid had gotten so horribly bad here that it has impacted my business and my earnings. I’ve been struggling with this as you are with your situation. You are Anne of All Trades and you will figure out a way to innovate this setback into a victory. And, you’ll be better for it. I’m certain you can come up with an online course that will help you bridge the gap. Perhaps a course where people can buy a spoon making kit with an accompanying online course? Or another scrap wood challenge like carving pendants or canes? You have a deep well of expertise to draw from, don’t lose hope!!!

Keep your head up and stay the course. You have come so far and no matter how hard it was you pulled through so far. I keep trying to find my own way with something similar and like you I keep getting knocked down but you have made it farther than I. When things seem like the box of tools isn't big enough, it maybe time to take a step back and look at the box. Rethink things and look outside the box to grow it. It is funny, how I find myself looking at my own situations and while I am growing at a phenomenally slow rate I am growing. Sometimes it is harder as the person in the box to find your way out for new tools(ideas). I really admire you, your husband and all that you have done for those you have helped along the way. The experiences go miles to further people dreams and much may still be unrealized. Always appreciate seeing all you do.

I feel for you, having been where you are now, (more than once!) I know how much it hurts to fail and the fear and disappointment when it looks to be failing. All I can offer is give it your best shot if it comes good in the end all the better but if it doesn't you won't have any regrets and the lessons learned can be transferred. TBH this was the worst time to start anything but who could have known, If you get through this then it will be unstoppable.

I really feel you. I've been working on fixing up a small outbuilding on my property to turn into my shop (I've got a build series going on my channel). It's humble compared to what you are trying to build. Even though I have reused and scavenged 50-75% of the building its still costing me a couple thousand and I'm still not done. It's tough. I was really excited when I first learned that you were building a craft school. There needs to be more of them. I'm sorry you have hit another detour in the project, but we are all backing you.
