Hello guys, welcome back to Car Obsession, and welcome to another episode of Cheap Thrills. This is the series in which I find fun cars for under £5,000. This time around it's the turn of the R56 Mini Cooper S. This is the first BMW-era Cooper S to be fitted with a turbocharger, which replaced the supercharger in the R53.
It offers 175hp along with 240Nm of torque, although 260 is available with the overboost function. 0-62 is dealt with in 7.1 seconds, which is still respectable even by today's standards, and the top speed is 140 mph.
Compared to the R53, the R56 was more powerful, more fuel efficient, larger and more refined, so this model seems like a no-brainer, right? Not quite, as the R56 can be quite troublesome, especially when you get one fitted with the N14 like the car in this video.
