Your description is pretty much correct. Rig, or rigged, is a term we use to describe the way a game is causing the player to loose as a result of not being ready to pay out a prize. When I say a machine has "good rigging", it means the machine is performing well by causing the illusion that the player is close to winning. Claw machines will keep "rigging" until enough money has been inserted to cover its own cost, and give the operator their desired profit, at which point it will payout a prize. A crane machine with "good rigging" will clamp hard until it hits the top, and then weaken to drop the prize, whereas a machine with bad rigging will be completely weak at the bottom and not even attempt to lift a prize. As enthusiasts we prefer machines to have good rigging as it makes for a more exciting player experience.

@@MrStevenastley Nah not really. However it is intended to make people think that way. It can also be used to the players advantage as it increases the chances of what we call "overpay". This is when the claw will accidentally payout a prize as a result of the rigging voltage being set too strong. Most post-2001 ELAUT machines (Ones running Intelli or IntraXion logic boards) combat this by showing Error Code 33, and not allowing credits to be inserted after 3 or so overpay wins.

@@MrStevenastley I spent around £27 in this video. The budget rarely exceeds £15 per episode however Blackpool is a feature location so I tend to treat myself a bit haha.

I am aware. As an enthusiast I have spent countless hours looking through machine manuals. However what I meant was that when an eclaw is ready, it isnt guaranteed to be still ready in the event that a prize is missed or dropped. I may be wrong on that but it's a bit complex the way they manage their payouts.
