This part right here is why Portrait of Ruin is my favorite DS Castlevania, and one of my favorite games ever played. Jonathan unlocking the power of the Vampire Killer with the help of the Lecarde sisters, who were presumed to be enemies. And you fight Richter with some kickass music playing in the background... Man this game's good.
i agree that this fight incredibly RAW though my favorite aspects of PoR is taking advantage of both charlotte and jonathan to get past the many tough enemies and bosses through the game. personally my favorite DSvania is DoS but i love all 3 a ton so its not by a lot
@@greenguyquint Yes the chemistry between Jonathan and Charlotte is also one of the reasons why I love this game. No other Castlevania game has the same chemistry between 2 characters. I loved their dialogue and character development.
@@romanreigns5796 let me explain in short the vampire killer contains the soul of leon belmont(the first belmonts) fiance in it and as such the whip is technically alive as such it can remember its weilder as best as it can.now why does it remember richter? Well this is because richter put a security measure on the whip.
@@romanreigns5796 you should it is my favorite DS castlevania, to your question, Jonathan (the blond guy) is from the Morris family a family related to the Belmont but only the Belmont can wield the VK to its true power , so for the Morris to be able to wield that power they have to defeat memory of the last Belmont who wielded the VK and that's Richter, btw in the game it is explained how it is just a memory so it does not represent full power Richter Belmont. And if you have not played the game yet let me tell you the last boss is epic as fuck
i havent played any RE game so my fav is chris because he punches a boulder and thats funny as for castlevania hes tied with julius for me either way yeah they are very popular especially richter now that hes in smash
Richter is actually more popular in Japan. While Simon is more popular in the US(though I imagine that has changed to Trevor cause of the Netflix series). I personally like Leon Belmont and Simon Belmont. But to each their own
It is canon now that the whip has memories from every user since the beginning, and this was necessary for the heroes to summon Trevor Belmont in Grimoire of Souls. This battle is canon too, which means Richter is alergic to pie(?
My favorite Belmont’s not in order are prob Simon, richter, Julius, and Trevor. My god the castlevania representation in smash is beautiful. 34 music tracks, a stage with the most prominent bosses from the game, alucard as an assist and Dracula as boss even having his beast form from the original, rondo of blood, and many more, I can’t wait!
In all honesty, I was surprised to find out that he would be Simon's echo. I would've gone with Alucard to fight alongside him but we got Castlevania representing Smash now!
I mean I kinda wished Richter was a alt costume like the koopalings and alph so Either Alucard or Soma could've made it in. Why Soma, I feel like Soma could have a interesting moveset with his regular attacks using all sorts of weapons that would put even links or Byleth's arsenal to shame. And he could have a mp bar similar to hero's but recharges faster when not using specials but can't get any extra by attacking so he could use souls he got in Aos and Dos. Such as Giant bat/bat company as up b that allow for free movement however drains Soma's mp quickly, winged skeleton as his side b using around 10 before he runs out of mp if he spams them, Lighting doll as a neutral b being around 50 mp but is a good kill move, and Demon as down b that allows him to do 50% extra damage at 20% mp and Soma will take constant damage from 5 to 10 seconds making it a risk and reward special
Yes but so bad they are exactly teh same. If the developpers didn't have enough idea to make them differents they should have put alucard to replace one of them because he is as much iconic as them, or even Soma Cruz from castlevania AoS and DoS that both in most of the tops five of castlevania games.
I used the dark whip Trick: If you jump a bit close to richter there is a high chance that he will throw axe in air Use this opportunity to hit him twice(dealing 200+ damage in two hits using jet black whip), keep repeating)
Dude i th8nk if they used the martial arts he gonna punch your face in the wall whit the charge atack, send you to heaben whit the oppercut and break your eggs whit taht down kick... Yeah no thank
his "item"? idk what you mean since richter doesnt get an inventory and only gets his whip and sub weapon but yeah it does make things far easier for jonathan lol
its way safer than the method i used here at least you can avoid most projectiles by jumping and throwing the pie and immediatly go back when its thrown out
I hope we get a quincy morris story on how he defeated dracula so we can complete the morris clan storyline and also on how Jonathan gived the VK to Julius and trained him till 1999.
Now that the Morris can got the whip, i wonder how julius get it back?...hope we will finally get demon castle war ( the 1999 war against dracula) one day!
They are never going to do a story for it since konami likes to abandon their games most of the time. Id love to give them my story that helps bridge the gap between PoR and 1999
I immediately noticed the Jet Black Whip. I wonder if it's a coincidence(or if you purposefully stat'd your STR) it deals 100 damage. I was overlevelled for this fight so Jet Black dealt more damage. And had Maxed Out Cream Pie to end it in 10 seconds if I wanted to.
i think its a coincidence, i believe i wasnt overlevelled for this fight as i didnt grind anything this playthrough so my damage is probably about what the developers expected the player to have at this point
I'm at level 45 and still can't beat him. I might possibly start the game from scratch as I lost some of the decent weapons such as the whip you were using. I've been using a weapon called Heaven's Sword. Though it is weak, the plus side is that I can attack from a distance. The rest is down to luck by avoiding him as much as possible. Also have the Axe projectile equipped too. On some attempts I have managed to last long.
i have seen someone using the nebula whip at level 1 mode to beat him so i still believe you can do it. theres a lot of tactics like the mastered pie for example which you can probably still get, just make sure you stock up on potions if you make mistakes often he still will be hard but if you keep trying you will be able to do it
Man, this fight perfectly exemplifies why I hate all the modern search action games with their dark souls invincirolls. You actually have to dodge and position yourself against Richter, your backdash has to be on point because it has no s. A lot of modern games just give you a full second or more invincible dodge roll to just press in reaction to attacks.
@@greenguyquint well it's not actually richter, its literally the "whips memory" of richter, its an imitation of him, I imagine that richter in his prime would clean Jonathan out.
imagine if every belmont had to fight the memory of the last person who wielded the whip. Richter would have had to endure Juste's insane speed and sheer magical power, while Juste would have been forced to use all that just to survive against the determination and power of a juggernaut like Simon.
didnt even see your comment i replied this same thing to another guy but it's the Jet Black Whip found in the Burnt Paradise which does dark damage so Ritcher's weak to it
I fought him using Kaiser Knuckles. You heard that right. Oh, and by mashing the L button. Also, What's the deal with everyone flailing around cream pie? I didn't use it agaisnt Richter since i didnt have it at that point but i mastered it and it seems pretty uhh... bad?
they did something like that in the saturn version of sotn, but personally i think as the whips memory it makes sense that his design would be this one.
in my opinion this is way harder than sotn richter, then again sotn is on the easy side when it comes to the metroidvanias since alucard has so much stuff he can abuse
anything weak against dark... which after a quick look at the bestiary its 1 enemy other than richter (the angel bow dudes) so not really i guess :P but hey beating richter gets you holy on the powered up vampire killer, which a LOT of enemies are weak to so theres that
Starting at 1:27 and then even more so at 1:51, the synth part being played in the song is pretty much the exact same riff played in the first part of the song “Tarkus” by ELP
I've always assumed that when Sara "infused" her very own soul with the whip itself she had seemingly become one with it so that it's power to vanquish Dracula would be active at all times without any kind of "depowerment" that would require her soul to be constantly drawn into it via rituals and other such means. Since Sara's only desire was for the whip to prevent any further humans from turning into vampires(Leon's own words while forging the Vampire Killer whip: "I swear to you! No more will suffer your fate!") it is very likely that her commitment to her wish it what keeps her forever bound to be one with the whip until the day when Dracula would never return(Julius Belmont at the end of Aria of Sorrow: "When we fled the castle, *i felt the power of Vampire Killer fading away").* All things considered i doubt that Sara would have anything interesting to say to Leon's descendants when they're all far too busy fighting Evil incarnate to be wasting time chit chatting with their ancestor's fianceé. Better for them not to waste time chatting and more time fighting Evil.
@@greenguyquint Either that or she might be the one who's actually projecting the "memory" of Richter Belmont based on her own experience of being wielded by him. I would bet Sara's abbility to recall her previous owners across the Eras is the reason why Jonathan was able to fight a "memory" of Richter Belmont(as it is Sara's memory).
i dont think i understood the question? if youre asking where you get the skill for jonathan its somewhere on the left side of burial chamber, its been a bit so i dont remember exactly
off the top of my head, jonathan has to fight the whip's memory in order to unleash its full power as hes not a belmont thus not naturally able to utilize its potential
in my opinion they should have made Richter more agile and do somersaults and run everywhere, more similar to SotN, it seems that in PoR he is not excited about the fight or is he Is letting Jonathan win on purpose
