Exactly...so as special are these rare gems! There were not millions of people taping EVERYTHING w their smart phones! So happy that extremely rare footage is shared on RU-vid
This is from the Movie: Go, Johnny, Go! is a 1959 rock and roll film starring Alan Freed as a talent scout searching for a future rock and roll star. Co-starring in the film are Jimmy Clanton, Sandy Stewart, and Chuck Berry and Richie Valens. Crank this Classic Up!
May 13 2021 Today Ritchie Valens Birthday would have been 80years old..... The LEGEND & his FLYING GUITAR 🎸🎶🎼🎵will always be remembered 🇲🇽🇺🇸Mexican American guitar 🎸 Legend !!!!!
Because Ritchie wrote most of his own music there is not telling how successful he would have been. No doubt he would have had more hits. At 17 his career was just starting. From the time was "discovered until the time he died was about 10 months. I had read that Buddy Holly was looking to start is own label and spoke of both Valens and Eddie Cochran joining him as song writers/performers. How knows what great music would have come from that venture.
More like 6 months. Ritchie started recording in Bob Keane's basement during the early Summer of 1958. Ritchie's first Session at Gold Star in Hollywood was in July of 1958. Buddy Holly also wrote, roughly 90% of his songs as well and yes, Buddy had actually started "Prism" records and had even gotten to the point of buying land and preliminary construction being started on a studio in Lubbock. A Buddy Holly/Prism Records business card is both a rare and priceless sight. I've only ever seen one and it was in the possession of the late Bill Griggs. I can only speculate that Ritchie would've gone the "Teen Idol" direction, as that's the way American music was being pushed at the time. He may have reinvented himself in the 60's with the British Invasion. Buddy would've gone country. Even in a 1957 interview with Red Robin up in Canada, Buddy admits to wanting to take a more "softer" direction with music. So, I think with the dissolution of the Crickets and Buddy and Waylon Jennings teaming up, we would've seen Buddy go Country, or at least a little more Rockabilly and then probably turn to production and the money-making side of things. But that's just my worthless opinion. ;)
sadly they died way to young. :( if Selena wouldn't of died she would of smoked Beyonce, Kim Kardashian, and Shakira. Kim Kardashian is just a nasty no moral having person.
Only about maybe 8 months from the time he came to fame until the plane crash. Maybe it was more than that. I know with Buddy Holly is only a year and a half..maybe two years. Valens was less than that, then he died.
It just dawned on me that the day my father died was February 3rd. He was a magician, entertainer, and a fabulous vocalist. He was also a Welshman and the Welsh are known for their love of music and singing. He taught me so much about music. Indeed it was the day the music died. I’d love to think he and Ritchie met up and shared a song together.
Ritchie was one of my biggest heroes&still is to this day..so cool..so talented..one of the biggest pioneers of Rock N' Roll!He died way too young tho but I know he made his family very proud,
You know, I haven't heard all this guy's music but I would be remiss to say that he wasn't the true king of rock and roll. An absolute underdog bringing it up from the most unknown parts of the United States and rocking the absolute f out of everyone wherever he went
Not sure what would have happened with Ritchie Valens had he not died so young. But So many performers who had 1 or 2 hits in the music business just disappeared after a couple of years. But if you die young you live forever.
bopper was the one hit wonder of the trio. valens and Holly hsd another decade. valens was only 17 and writing great music . also he was left handed and so good st guitar he played it right handed . the kid was something special for sure. out of all 3 I believe he was far and away the true prodigy
Ritchie Valens he still only had 1 " hit ". holly and valens were far more music lyrics gifted . look what valens did, 3 hits , possibly 4 depending on your definition , in what 8 months ? he was the biggest what if in music history . self taught, and that bit about him playing the guitar with his off hand is also true . Holly had his hits but even he couldn't hold a candle to what a 17 year old valens was doing at the time
i grew up litening to beautifull oldies richie valens buddy holly you name it i love it still . although in the 90s rap came into play and all my friends where led astray and sadly so was i . i get choked up even now that im just typeing . but i was a kid the influence rap has had over us has been a awful i truely wish rap had not become a part of my past but it has.god i hope the new generation can escape from its influence god knows i/we couldnt .
I believe in alternate timelines! Somewhere out there valens lost the coin toss and is still making record's! Yet another timeline, all 3 never took a plane , and are still alive! Yet another have them safely landed to their destination! So many out comes! Even some timelines where some of them never even got famous! And some where some or all have never been born! God, where's a "Mandela effect" when you need one?! My favorite Mandela would be where the plane landed safely!
Yep,a forgotten time.Everybody seemed to be clean cut,the music was simple, life was simpler, yes, fabulous 50's.Today,we live in a goddam toilet!Friggin shame isnt it?
So many errors made that night. #1 Flying in Blizzard Conditions, #2 utilizing a young, inexperienced pilot KNOWN for having bouts of vertigo, #3 flying at night on instruments with a pilot who was not rated on flying on instruments alone. According to the crash report, the artificial horizon was still in the "Locked" position. So, the pilot had no idea if he was ascending or descending. Not to mention, what flight service would have allowed all that to transpire? The only thing I can even think of is that a different pilot was scheduled but cancelled at the last minute. From what I've been told, Buddy Holly could be a rather.... insistent fellow when he wanted to be. Just so many errors made. You really can't make this stuff up. It very much seems like it was pre-destined. You just can't have that many errors align so perfectly.
Upon his return to Los Angeles, Valens filmed an appearance in Alan Freed's movie Go Johnny Go!. In the film, he appears in a diner, miming his song "Ooh! My Head", using a Gretsch 6120 guitar, the same model Eddie Cochran owned. Still, it is not Eddie´s guitar. In between the live appearances, Ritchie returned to Gold Star several times, recording the tracks that would comprise his two albums.
Crazy to see Chuck Berry enjoying Ritchie’s song. We sure missed out on a lot! I really wish Harmony Guitars would reissue his signature H44 Buick Green Stratotone. I never even knew about it till just recently. None are available used and I pretty much check everyday :(
Gone, missing, never was recorded (it was a live show, after all), or the Dick Clark estate won't let it out. Buddy Holly was on Bandstand too, but the whereabouts of that footage is unknown as well.
Actually, they used the intro to Ritchies performance for a scene in La Bamba. The Cast claims they say all the bandstand footage. Its all out there along with all of Buddy Holly's footage. Someone just has to go get it/look for it.
When the death bodies were recover, Ritchies head was half mutilated, Buddie holly bone structure break in to 48 parts and the big bopper break into 36 parts
why is there so little live footage of him??? Recently re-watched La Bamba the film after many years, and realized I was not very impressed with Lou Diamond Philips's portrayal of Valens in the film, at least in the singing scenes, he really did not resemble Valens at all on stage
I've been trying to view a video of Ritchie Valens performing on Dick Clark's American Bandstand with no avail. Is there any legal stuff going on here why Ritchie Valens proforming on Dick Clark's American Bandstand not allowed? Let me know thanks.
