I fished Ribchester at weekend and had a cracking Chub. Didn't have my scales but photographed it next to my tackle box, did subsequent measurements and estimate is to have been around 5lb. Top condition fish as well.

Well done on your lovely chub! It is a fantastic chub river! I would not be surprised if the Ribble would one day, produce a uk record

Some great fish some great music and some great moments in your video well done or should i say happy days, thats what its all about. I remember once in very thick snow chest deep in the river salmon fishing a robin red breast landing on my rod he must have been watching me putting my worms on. He must have either been starving or very young but he balanced himself on my rod and stayed there while i opened my worm container taking out a worm and hand fed him he flew away with the worm coming back a couple of times for another till he had his fill. Didnt have mobiles back then just memories. That would have made a great moment on video. Congrats on your new video. Hope you get a million subscribers you deserve them with all that effort.

Vincent Donnelly thanks very much! Lovely story about the robin. I had a similar experience but managed to film it. Only the little fellow wanted the coffee and walnut cake. I can't think whuch video but it was on one of my earlier ones.

Quite tame are robins. Often when I'm fishing they turn up. I feed them maggots. I see a lot of kingfisher on the Ribble, and there are some little white egrets as well.

What breaking strain mainline do you use on the ribble? Which brand? Great video again piker. Their getting better and better.

samsung s5 thanks very much 😁 i use 10lb subline in gravel brown. But on occasions i use 6lb diawa sensor in brown. The hooklength is most important. Fox camotex/coretex (gravel brown) 15lb bs or korda n trap weed green 30lb bs is what i use. Strip back coating at hook end knotless knot and pellet on the hair.

Nice fish....some lovely shots of them going back into the water. Cracking chub as well. Why does the amount of debris influence the length of your hook length? Very good video!
@PikerBiker
@PikerBiker 7 лет назад
steven prescott thanks pal. The length of hooklength could be shorter as i was using a back lead above the feeder. If you don't use a stop knot above the feeder (back-lead optional) there is a greater chance of debris and weed collecting on your feeder and eventually the hook to. Ways of getting round it is if you are using a longer hooklength, the barbel are less weary of an unnatural bunch of leaves and weed as its further away from the feeder or use a stop knot as i did. Thanks mate
@stevenprescott4426
@stevenprescott4426 7 лет назад
Oh I get you..so it is better using a short hook length, and the stop know / back lead keeps the debris away from it? I am going to give your rig a try. I have fished rubble many times for Barbel...I am yet to catch one!!!

what is the make of the ambush halibut pellets you use mate? and also which are is decent for barbel in preston? im normally going behind the golf course up to tickled trout stretch but so far this year i had only 2 barbel up to 3.5lb :( i must be doing something wrong :( im using double 10mm halibut pellet most of the time sometimes i experiment with krill dumbells, meaty pellets, spicy sausage pellets but so far only the meaty pellets and bunch of dead maggots have worked :(

Nasko Hristov I use Ambush pellets in 10mm single bait wrapped in trout pellets scalded into a paste. You can get the pellets on line from Severn Valley barbel products, the guy who is called Adam and runs his own tackle shop in bewdley. I can highly recommend them and I am not sponsored in any way but they have always worked for me, the barbel have been hit and miss this year so I don’t think you are doing anything wrong. All those baits you use are also great baits! The weather has lots to do with it, the more water the better but fish after a big flood, you can go on this website to plot your next attack! Fish as the water starts dropping off: www.riverlevels.uk/ribble-samlesbury I hope this helps! The ambush pellets: www.svbp.co.uk/

by the way do you use the 10mm ones? also do you just use a single one or you put 2 or 3 on a hair? also i thought it would be better after all the rain the last week but level seems to be even lower :( i just cant get it why is it like that? and also is that area between the woods and tickled trout hotel any good? and what sort of swims are you choosing and what distance to seek ? im normally casting roughly in the middle of the river :) thanks in advance and one last thing im looking for a good and not bank-breaking brolly system as it tends to rain quite a bit lately can you recommend me something?

Was the barbel from right in the edge? I've tried that once or twice myself recently.

Great Video, I tried to get access last year at the Bonsai Nurseries. A guy told me it has been bought now and changed into a residence and he doesn't allow access anymore...I am confused now after seeing this.
@PikerBiker
@PikerBiker 6 лет назад
philip chadwick it is opposite the bonsai nursery and unfortunately it has been closed and buildings have been built there, I never got a chance to fish that side of the river. Thanks for watching mate and sorry for the confusion
@borwick117

Are you fishing the North or South bank? I thought the Bonsai nursery had sold up. Can we turn up and fish it?
@KenG1ITV
@KenG1ITV 6 лет назад
From my experience the length fished is run by a club that does not allow publicity but part of the opposite bank can be fished on day tickets.

Can you possibly add a link to where you get your baits from please. I cant find the Bamfords fishmeal or trout pellet crush online.

When do you use 6lb daiwa sensor? Do the barbel not snap 6lb line?
@PikerBiker
@PikerBiker 7 лет назад
samsung s5 no they have never snapped me on 6lb but tbh i only expect chub on the light rod. Barbel don't seem to mind taking the bait. As long as i am using a good flexi rod with a strong butt section and a decent braid hooklength, you can land almost anything on 6lb. I wouldn't recommend it if its a snaggy swim. In my next video i actually catch 2 barbel on 6lb line and barbless hooks. I am now trialling 12lb diawa hypersensor. It has been super so far!
