River Ribble Fishing for Roach and Dace 

In this video I go fishing for roach and dace on the River Ribble at Church Deeps, Walton le Dale just outside Preston.
The plan of attack for the day was to go out mid river on the maggot feeder rig to try and catch some bonus fish such as chub and perch amongst the vast shoals of dace and then do some stick float fishing for big roach and dace on the inside line whilst feeding hemp and caster. If I needed to fish a little further out on the float or the conditions deteriorated I also had my 17ft foot Drennan Acolyte to ensure presentation would be maintained however, I didn't feel that rod had a place given the conditions on the day...
...the tide was low and the flow was virtually non existent therefore, in hindsight, I wished I had taken a whip with me to really speed fish for the dace as the big roach weren't there in numbers they were last year or at least they weren't prepared to feed. A waggler would have been more suited to covering the peg and casting downstream but I adapted my shotting pattern and method of casting to keep the fish coming at a fair old pace. I certainly wont go there again without putting a whip or waggler rod in the bag.
I finished the session with 10lb 1oz of mostly small dace with some better stamp fish thrown in and 3 nice roach with one specimen nudging the 1b mark.
