Disney announced recently that Rivers of America and Tom Sawyers Island will be removed for a brand new Cars themed land and I can't quite figure out what the fuss is about so I jumped on the Liberty Belle boat (one of the things to be removed in this new proposal) and discuss the upcoming changes.

I mean with multiple proposals of that nature already in the pipeline to include that space that future may not be as far away as you think, I’m all for it, gardens are way too big anyways 😂

@LiftHillsandThrills to be honest, I don't have a dog in the fight. I'd be happy with developing on the land, but it's always nice to have a bit of a natural "quiet area" in parks.

@@CatsnCoasters I do agree with that but folks moaning about the Disney one is confusing as there really aren’t many places to sit in Disney full stop so it’s more of a passing view as opposed to a sit down and have a picnic view if that makes sense

I like the 2 attractions but I accept the need to use the space more effectively. My concern is the new area feeling crowded. Based on the artwork they’re cramming a lot of tall structures into a relatively small space, the river provides a break & makes the area feel more spread out but the new area looks to obscure a lot of sight lines

@@matt64allison they’ve had some feedback from planning authorities and some things have to be tweaked the last I heard so they may address these issues in the second submission

I’ve been to the park three times and didn’t even know you could go onto the island, so yeah, kind of always felt like a retro feature that likely has some nostalgia but it’s a massive plot of land that could be developed to bring more people to the park and increase availability of rides and attractions to guests as they seem to be struggling with guests ability to get on attractions.

At the end of the day Walt never even seen the park open . Times change , you want the history go to Disneyland . Cars land is fantastic at DCA so let’s get it built 😂

We visited the island when we were last at Disney and whilst it's pretty to look at, and a nice relaxing space (especially for my little one who has ADHD/ASD) it's too difficult to get to and doesn't hold much appeal outside of a relaxing space. I'm definitly in favour of putting something new there, and maybe they don't need to get rid of the natural beauty altogether, no reason they can't keep part of the river and theme it around an 'Oasis' in the middle of the desert themed cars area.

Debating what I think. Won't be the same without liberty bell but having a cars theme would be good. I was the same with splash mountain as it was a Disney classic but Tianas is growing on me xx

I imagine it’s the same for us as if Towers said they’re filling in the lake infront of the Towers to build an area… with that logic I’d be more against it but with this… I dunno… I’d prefer more attractions myself

For me the Liberty Belle is one of those attractions that makes the Magic Kingdom special for those who aren't big on rides. My Dad loved this ride because it was something that we didn't have to stand in line for and something that we could all do as a family and enjoy a bit of 'down time' in the middle of an otherwise chaotic day. I get why they're removing it and it's difficult to argue that the Cars attraction will almost certainly be a hit with long wait times ect but please dont forget that it's not only themepark enthusiasts that visit these parks, sometimes Dad, Nan or whoever it may be also would like to have something to do as well.

@@5I50evh That’s very true but you also have to think the vast majority of people aren’t buying a ticket to come and sit on a boat / relax. It’s a theme park at the end of the day and attractions will always triumph over these kind of Segway style attractions. I hope they incorporate the natural beauty into the new land but I can completely see your point and appreciate the comment!

I hate losing the beauty of the Rivers of America, Liberty Belle, and Tom Sawyer Island. I would love to see them just build on the back half and leave the front half for the aesthetic. They should keep the main Island with a less problematic theme, and bulldoze the fort island and beyond. Just make the river a quick little circle around the island. They also need to reopen the quick service restaurant to give people a reason to go over there. Most amusement parks strive to have a major water feature - why are they getting rid of theirs? They certainly haven't run out of land to develop.

Cars land would be nice behind big thunder. Would be ashame to lose the rivers though they did say a while back, the water maintenance costs a ton so from a business sense they can empty it and start charging people lighting lane to ride the rides and make some money 🤷🏽‍♂️ just greed really. We love chilling on the boat and escaping the craziness of thrill seeking from time to time

@@LiftHillsandThrills If the MK were hemmed in on all sides, then I could see replacing one area with another. However, there are rivers in all Disney theme parks, so making WDW different by having themed cars instead of a themed river may be both good & bad. The weather in Orlando must also affect the maintenance of the river area, including its steamboat. Removing the boat for upkeep takes more time---& therefore money. Someone posted they don't miss Splash as much as before, while to me the new Tiana's is a flop. So what I'd rate as ruining the experience of the MK will do just the opposite for other people.

When I went to the park, I didn't consider entering the area as there are other attractions I would prioritise over it. I like water and can understand that draining it would be weird but Cars land would definitely be the more popular area when, and I mean when, it gets built

100% people are forgetting it's a theme park and not a national park aha I think if they preserved some of the natural habitat and incorporated it into the cars land that's all fine by me!

From an outsider looking in, been to the park twice as a kid/teen and we didn't go to that area of the park at all, seems like it is just nostalgia talking when people aren't happy about it going. Seems like prime space to develop as they are

I don’t care what argument you make. Disney has 27,000 acres they should have had two more parks by now. In 27 years they built the four theme parks we have today and since 1998 almost the exact time it took to build all four parks they havent built a single new park! And now they’ve killed two of the most successful immersive rides in the whole park. Walt Disney said he bought enough land to hold every idea you could imagine. I’d love princess and the frog and cars and all that stuff but they deserve their own parks! The fans and most importantly Walt Disneys memory deserves to be maintained too. What’s happened to Disney is 100% political, it’s actually impressive how much they’ve been able to ruin the parks recently. I guess if you didn’t go during the magic era you don’t know what you’re missing but I promise you it was truly special.

I don't doubt it for a second but who am I to argue about business things I know nothing about. For me (someone who's only visited WDW twice) I didn't see any interaction or any reason for Tom Sawyer's to be kept. People rarely visit and only now it's on the chopping block people are making an effort to see it before it goes. Whilst I agree there should be more I feel as though it has to be done sustainably and for me, it's a very magical place and i'm sure that's the opinion of the majority of the general public who aren't as heavily invested as those who have nostalgia and experience of that. Hope that comes across well, appreciate the comment!

@@LiftHillsandThrills You come across fine, I just disagree no hard feelings. The rivers and the island isn’t supposed to be an attraction, it actually is supposed to be somewhat of an after thought and a back drop but also a place to relax and cool off and disassociate from all the stimulation of the park which is really important to some people. But the main point is that Disney has stopped putting money into the parks while raising the price a LOT and taking away all of the percs and extra things that actually made Disney what it was, it was the attention to detail and they just don’t have it anymore. I’m really not trying to be rude about it but I deeply believe that it’s an insult to even call it Disney world anymore because it is the polar opposite of what the parks use to be and Walt would not be happy at all.

Parts of it represents a slice of old Americana, other parts are from what Walt loved, in a way you are slowing pulling the person that started it all away, which does not set well with some people. The best comparison I can make for you, lets tear down a lot of the royal castles, very few get to visit, they are not often used and turn that into something better served for the community. I'm sure this would not sit very well in the UK.

There's not many of the younger generation who are too bothered with castles etc but I get your point but Walt himself that the parks would never be finished, I feel as though a lot of Disney fans like to speak on his behalf when we'll never truly know what he would have thought / done in this situation. It's a beautiful area but it's so much wasted space, if they could blend the natural beauty in with the new Cars land that would be the perfect solution, not sure the boat will survive that outcome though.

Yet another stupid idea by Disney. They need to be adding more attractions not taking them away yes Tom size Ireland might not be the most popular attraction but the Liberty Bell is a very popular attraction. Personally I would’ve just redeveloped Ireland and built some sort of restaurant and shops on the island.. you just need to go down the road to universal who are getting their expansion done perfectly by building a brand-new park that will increase capacity and then they’re going to have major developments happening both islands of adventure and then Universal studies. .and let’s not forget Disney is not short on land to build new attractions

With them crunching the numbers it seems as though both are some of the least popular attractions in MK hence it being a key focus of redevelopment. I do agree Universal are doing it better though!

I disagree, they’re building for a better future and there’s a massive man made lake in the way… it’s an easy decision for me but folks for some reason want an island they never visit to stay and a lake they walk past (not sit around) to stay. Removing it doesn’t make them lost, removing it opens up an absolutely huge plot of land to develop more stuff although what is lost is Tiana’s as it looks so out of place 😂

@@LiftHillsandThrills I think as a standalone decision, you can justify it. Put into the wider context of the rest of the Disney parks, worldwide, then it’s a downward trend. Disney has always been about the magic, whereas now it just seems a huge mismash of budget/cut blue sky ideas. Look at how they’ve ruined Epcot. Shoe horning in IP’s that don’t fit (Like Tiana!). Disney is a shadow of its former self, sadly.

I get it, it’s the same over here with parks but the diehards really aren’t a market they give a shit about

Always admired the old steamer boats they keepp at disney. Beautiful thing was lucky to ride one in the uk in Norwich afew times as child, relaxing. Forgot to mention in to golf vlog i liked the Halloween Adidas shirt (idk f i mentioned that too lat season lolL.)

Disney is unique because you can visit the park 30 years apart, and it doesn’t appear to have changed! It’s the Never-Never Land that exists for real. To remove this iconic part of the park would be like removing the towers from Alton Towers IMO. Such a shame, especially as they are replacing it for an ageing IP that barely fits in with the land theme. It wouldn’t surprise me if Disney did a U-turn on r these plans based on the backlash they have received.

I know that’s an extreme example, but it’s not that far removed from what they are doing to Walt’s dream!
