I think their charisma and stage presence made the song more palatable. This is another case of SM’s god-tier vocals saving the production of the song. I’m still not over Sticker 💀 that was a lot. But because they look good and sound amazing, it’s growing on me. It’s not something I’ll be able to listen to without seeing the video, though.

dang, agree to disagree i guess! i loveeee the production in both songs. also, both songs (sticker and step back) have been produced by the same person (dem jointz, if you hear “incoming” at the beginning of the song it’s him) so maybe it’s just a problem with the producer.

I disagree. I'm yet to see an SM production that needed to be saved by vocals. The production here, like in sticker is genius. They're pushing boundaries with risk AND quality, we are just so accustomed with basic and bland productions that when something more complex or daring comes up we need to take the backseat and wait for our brains to process and understand the whole thing. It's not about forcing ourselves to like "noise music" (which is a really shallow and ignorant take), its about accepting complexity, artistry and enjoying the details. It's beautiful!

The one with the pink hair is HYOYEON from Girls' Generation, she is the main dancer and main rapper of the group. She is known to be the best female main dancer in Kpop, before debuting as an idol she was a professional dancer (learned HipHop, popping, locking, jazz, latin and belly dancing) she's won multiple street dance compeitions and she even worked with Janet Jackson as a back up dancer! since the group is on hiatus, she is now a solo artist/DJ and she goes by "HYO"! you should totally react to some of her songs like DESSERT, Sober (English ver.), Second, Punk Right Now! she is amazing and I hope to see you react to her one day!

If im not mistaken, GOT is the group’s name, but GOT the beat is the name for this specific unit! So the members of GOT will be interchangeable, which I think is cool cuz you’ll get something new! I think this works sort of like NCT and how they have all their sub-units but still have NCT in their names, (NCT 127, NCT U, NCT Dream). Im pretty sure this is the case, and honestly I was there with yall about the song not being palatable, but a few more listens HOOKED me in I tell you! Love you guys

I was only impressed by the vocals at first because it’s definitely a spotlight on the vocals song. Not much harmony at all. But on the second listen, I got to hear the complex tracking and appreciated it more. I really like it now.

I can definitely see why this song is a hard one to like initially, but I'm so biased for everyone in the group that I immediately loved it LOL. Also, DemJointz produced this and Sticker (also Kanye's last album hello??? love to see it) so it makes sense that they are similar in how polarizing they are.

In kpop he also worked on Red Velvet's Don't U Wait No More and Taste, EXO's Ya Ya Ya, NCT's Cherry Bomb, Kick It, Punch and Universe, Taeyeon's Something New, and SHINee's Don't Call Me. And that's just kpop, he has worked extensively with lots of talented artists including Kanye, Rihanna, and Janet Jackson. I think it's a lot to say a well-established producer should quit based off of 2 songs you don't like.

I def understand why the production could be unpleasant! the BWOO BWOO sound and the bells ringing. That haunting sound is def a hit or miss, for me it was def a hit. this is what I expected from them the second I saw the teaser pictures. But I def get what dizz is saying when he’s talking about the relatability that is taken away but at the end of the day I think it honestly just comes down to song selection , I just feel like if the song was more his vibe then he wouldn’t have minded but I also I’m not really sure cuz I still think what he said was pretty true, so my Take is: idk. And letoya’s solo was an absolute bop.

I think the thing that hypes you up about this stage and this group is not the song but the girls themselves. Its for the fans its like the avengers movies where your favorite superheroes have a cross over movie. Fans hardly see the girls perform together despite being in the same company (even hyoyeon and taeyeon haven’t performed together in years and they’re in the same group) the hype factor is and was that, at least for me. Even the choreo plays into that by having them cover their faces until its their own part.

I totally agree with all of you, and especially Dizz's take. SM is stuffing so much talent and newness down our throats that it's hard to digest in the way that they meant for us to, especially immediately. I think the music industry as a whole has started to realize how it needs to curtail how oversaturated it is, while the kpop industry seems to not have caught on. This might just be that kpop is so dependent on 'industry plants' that it's hard for them to strip back from the template that hasn't failed them before. But I am also SM trash so I'll probably enjoy the music no matter what 💀😂

The kpop industry HAS realized its oversaturation. Problem is, they are mostly trying to solve it by dumping older groups in favor of their newest, hence disbandments out of nowhere like CLC. Only eleven 3rd generation girl groups are still active, while I don't agree with his rankings, (Mamamoo at the _bottom_ of it?!) this list ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-OUPjHg_7JI4.html (plus a pinned comment) seems pretty complete. 4th Gen has has some culling was well (IZ*ONE for example)

Honestly, i totally get ur opinion!! I fell immediately with the song, just because it has this "Sticker" effect.. like at first listen, it gives u nothing and then later u live for lol! But one thing i really love is, that everybody shines in that song and u see the talent which is not easy for groups! Khadija u were right with Concept of switching the member!! So this Unit was meant for the Performance aspect und later on we will get other units that are focused on vocals and so and so. It kinda has the Nct concept :)

Thank you for the reaction!! I think you all are most familiar with Red Velvet but all the other members might be new faces. Taeyeon and Hyoyeon are from Girls Generation- Taeyeon had the grey hair and Hyoyeon had the pink hair. Taeyeon is GG’s leader and main vocalist and Hyoyeon is a rapper and dancer in GG. The other rapper with the long black hair is Karina from Aespa and the girl with the short black hair and red top is Winter from Aespa. BoA is the one with the braids in her hair and she starts the bridge and the dance break. I can’t wait to see the rest of the reaction series!!

When I watched the performance during New Years, I felt like something was missing musically and production wise. I didn’t know what it was. So in the beginning I didn’t like it. I didn’t understand the meaning of it at first (even though I didn’t know what they were saying lol). When I looked up the lyrics I was like ohhhh okay I get the meaning. Those ladies with colored hairs are Taeyeon (gray hair) and Hyoyeon (pink hair) are members of Girls'Generation, we SONE called them the Pillars of Girls'Generation since both of them are the Mains of the groups and the most successful ones in terms of their solo careers Taeyeon as Soloist and Hyoyeon as DJ

I think also a reason it didn’t really do much for you guys is because I think it was really banking on nostalgia and this was really for the people who grew up with all of these groups. So to see all of them together was suppose to be the main shock factor. So because you guys are really only invested in red velvet and just getting into Aespa, this didn’t shock you like it would for long term fans. Idk just a thought. I personally freaked out when I first saw it

You can't give if you have nothing to give. Those women did what they had to and tried their very best, but they had the bare minimum to work with. Like Monroe said, this felt very much like an experiment for experiment's sake and not for the purpose of pushing the envelope. SM dropped the ball on this one...again. Shout out to these mega-talented women, though. Y'all did the best you could.

Loved it the first time I heard it and I love all the girls too and their respective original groups as well, so this unit was really a dream come true for fans like me😍🖤💙❤️ it's just the lyrics for the song is what threw me off.

Your song at the end of this video is soooo good! Anyway I'm an SM trash and very excited about this group and what they'll bring us next. But I have to agree with you about some things here. Especially about the song. I enjoy their performance but I can't listen to it using earphone, i refuse to listen to it using earphone because it sounds scary.. I hope we're gonna see the remaing SM Grils for the next project because I feel that they're gonna give us what Dizz said about "The beauty of groups". Thank you for your honest reaction!

I was soooo insanely hyped about this grp ever since the first teaser came out and I have been streaming this up & down nonstop! Listening to this song on repeat literally at least twice a day! This is the most iconic and legendary event that ever happened! SM put queens of ALL FOUR KPOP GENERATIONS together and that’s freaking crazy! I am dead! The groups name is Girls on Top. Since the lineup is going be interchangeable, GOT (the beat) is the name of the first lineup/subunit! The next lineup/subunit will be GOT __ something or other! Does that make since?!

I think this was a one-time thing for the group. They did a fun game while filming for a live performance, and I think a few them said they werent expecting to do a second performance together. That they thought it was just forthe SM Town concert. I hope they make this a permanent group.

I think GOT is like the brand name for this entire project, including the future projects under the brand Girls On Top. GOT The Beat seems to be focusing more on hard hitting sound & image. I speculate the next one might be something like idk GOT The Vibe, something vibey R&B with hella sensual vocals and more feminine dance moves or something like that. I think in terms of the song’s composition and arrangement, there are so many things going on back to back to back which makes the general listeners feel so overwhelmed to decipher each aspect. To me, I’ve been listening to SM music religiously since 2002 so I’m so used to expect these weird experimental sounds from them, I liked the song instantly from the get-go, but not gonna lie these women themselves and their spectacular performance were the main aspects that got me hooked initially. Took me 2 more listens after that to fully gasp the song in its entirety, and I haven’t stopped listening to it ever since

I don’t know about y’all but I love the song. SM gave us a once in a lifetime opportunity by giving us GOT The Beat. Too much talent in one group doesn’t mean it’s not interesting anymore. I love how every member of the group shined all through out the song. Lyrics wise, I’m trying to ignore it coz that’s the only downside of this release
