Ehhhh but when she did Bodak Yellow and I Like It...she got millions of views, and there wasn’t nearly as much sexual scenes as there were in WAP. Billie Eilish gets a ton of views and rarely, if ever, needs to depict her body in a sexual manner. It is definitely OPTIONAL to have sexual scenes, but it isn’t the ONLY way to attract listeners to your music.

I am straight up cackling. I can't with this song, it's so funny to me and peoples reactions to this song are so funny. But in all seriousness, in my opinion people are bothered by this because they are women rapping about it. People aren't as bothered by this kind of thing if it is men rapping about it. Men can sing and rap about sex and excessively sexual things and acts, but women can't. Beyonce got flamed for partition, even though it was more sensual then straight raunchy sexy. But I agree with Dizz on the portrail of black women and understand why he is bothered by it, but as a woman I like these kinds of runchy songs with straight up sex lyrics. Singing about what I like in bed and how I want to be treated in a sexual scenario.

It's not really because of that. This is not the first song about sex sang by a woman. Cardi, Nicki and all female rappers built their careers on sex, but people have never reacted like in this case. What's disturbing about this song is that it's overly sexual, it's not even sexy anymore it's straight up vulgar.

The difference is that people are used to hearing men talk about getting sucked, fucked, etc. Add that Cardi is a mother to the equation and it's the perfect recipe for hypocrisy to start creeping out of the crevices of our society.

@@diamcole Cardi, just like other male rappers, rapped about sex in all of her previous songs, which shows that the problem in this case is not really the content of the lyrics, but rather the video and the image that it portrays. Have you ever seen a bunch of half naked male rappers being all seductive in their videos? I don't think so and this is the difference. While people say that what these rappers did is empowering, I highly doubt that. It just objectifies women more than they already are and it pushes this highly sexist industry that uses women as plastic dolls that men all over the world can jerk off to.

lee hoo Men don’t dance half naked in rap songs because that would be perceived as gay. If you don’t believe me, tell me one black R&B male that people did not assume was gay at some point or another simply because he could sing and dance. For some reason, singing and dancing is seen as seen as gay in our community. Also, men jerk off to anything. Men jerk off to animation. Men jerk off to other men having sex with other women they will never meet. So that’s irrelevant. Both of these women and other female rappers have made songs talking about struggle and finding happiness and uplifting others but that’s not what sells.

I don't necessarily think it's empowering but I also don't think it's a set back. It just is what it is. People are doing these things and thinking these things, I see no reason to set off alarms when an artist centers a song around fucking.

I get where Dizz and Khadija are coming from but it's so annoying that this dissection of black women in rap imagery is coming when it's black women themselves at the helm of it. If this was a man's video people might find it eyeroll worthy but not cause all this ruckus but suddenly it's theirs and it's a problem?? Black women having agency also means them not only talking about sex but being able to have that conversation as explicitly as a man would too. It was over the top but they were also being sexual and having fun and sexualizing themselves so why is it that SO MANY people - not y'all specifically but generally - are this bothered? And why do I have a feeling the next time a male rapper does a video like this no one will bat an eye?

THIS! These reactions are always interesting for me because I come from the Foxy Brown, Lil Kim, Khia, and others era. This is nothing new to me. Black women have been expressing their autonomy over their sexuality and there is no "right" way to do that. However, people are entitled to what they want to see and listen to. But if this is their artistry and what they wanted to put out...what is the issue? It just feels hella judgmental considering that SO many male artists and rappers do the same thing WITHOUT the agency of black women. It isn't black women's job to censor themselves to avoid being a stereotype. That is society's issue.

lol, I'm a lesbian and I have known COUNTLESS gay men who range from uncomfortable with women's sexuality to being downright sexist. there is a huge problem in the LGBTQ community with sexism. don't think that being gay instantly cures someone of privileged behavior. I've been ridiculed as a lesbian by gay men. please note that in general I love my fellow gays and consider them family. I believe we all share a bond. but our community is not without its issues.

you are right about that...but that narrative of black women in the industry needs to be represented and elevated more. there isn't a lot of versatility when it comes to black women in the industry. we hear and see them sing/rap about the same things over and over (sex sells). the ones that choose to be different or true to themselves are the ones that are at the bottom, trying to make it and are barely noticed.

I agree with women expressing their sexuality but “porn” is where I draw the line. I’m okay with OnlyFans because Ik the women had a choice to post that stuff but most women in the actual pornographic industry were coerced and many unregulated content flows through that site and the executives have never cared. By unregulated content I mean YOUNG girls like 14/15 having their videos posted, getting millions of views or videos of women being raped in Eastern countries, or just videos and pictures of women in locker rooms/ fitting rooms. I support women 100% but I also have limits and know which industries are super harmful to women and men as well... stay informed

Is these black women didn’t feel comfortable being represented in a song like this they would have declined the offer. If they felt uncomfortable wearing those outfits they would have declined, if at any point the song or the environment made them feel uncomfortable they would have declined.. we as viewers we need to stop telling women artist how we think they should behave no matter who it is. I feel like women aren’t allowed in society to be sexual if they want to. As far as setting an example for young girls I am conflicted, because I feel like impressionable kids should not be exposed to this. For me, adult women wanting to be raunchy is and should not be a problem. Also, you look mixed so you aren’t black either; there is a black experience and a mixed one they are different. As a mixed person you don’t face the same challenges as black women (theoretical and generally, I don’t know you personally) you don’t really have the monopole on this subject either. Honestly the song was good, but i've been seeing so many people talking about how it's a bad influence for young women, or young black women in particular. That pisses me off cuz we have hundreds upon hundreds of songs from Black men that have women twerking all over thr place, have guys talking about their dick and shit but you don't have that many people saying "oh this a bad influence for young black men", instead it's just jokes about parents who see their daughters in the videos. We need to stop expecting black women to be some type of angels, stop it, if you don't want yo daughters to see that then make sure they don't watch it. It's not a Black female Artist's job to raise yo kids, she tryna make her money and do what she likes. Also for nb women saying that this takes women back decades or whatever, shut up, this song pushes confidence and feminist ideas in a way and unless you wipe your eyes and stop thinking too much you wouldn't know.

i feel that artist should make the music that they want to make. if you don’t like it, that’s okay. but that’s what they want to make. but i don’t feel i like black girls should have to create or move any different because the stereotype of the over-sexualized black women, that’s society and the media’s job. just let black women be black women. also cardi has songs that don’t just portray sex and sex work. her 2 biggest songs, i like it and bodak yellow, aren’t about sex. but again media hypes her sexy songs. i just think we should take the pressure of of women, but black women in general to get rid of stereotypes that have been put on them.

Somehow every time a song like this comes out people start worrying about the innocence of their children like clockwork. Like it’s somehow the responsibility of women as a collective to have a hand in raising every single child in the world? Men are allowed to be raunchy and women are constantly scrutinized for it.

I agree with you all especially on the limited representation of the black woman. That being said when I first heard the song I felt liberated, empowered and slightly turned on. I loved that they just own their raunchiness, explicitness and that their flexing about it. Who says women cant do this? society? This song is a big f u to society and I love cardi for it. Meg did wash her tho.. on her own song.. cardi should come harder next time. I highly recommend listening to the uncensored version its much better

i think as you listen more and more you realize how good cardi's parts are!! i think megan's verse was more what people were expecting but i think cardi's slower parts really embody the message of the song whereas megan's makes it more likeable and creates contrast with cardi's to make the song really original

i loved the bars on this one from meg and cardi as well as the sexiness and raunchiness, i felt empowered when listening to this bc i felt included like all women different shape and size could feel sexy and liberated the lyrics weren't limiting like you can find most times in the same type of songs except there made by men and society has now put those stereotypes into the culture of what women should look like, when and how sexy they can be. I mean men call women hoes/whores in music all the time and we just live with it and with songs like this we can take the terminology that has been placed on us and turn it around for empowerment. I've never understood how men can capitalize off of women's bodies and continue to be praised and PAID HIGHLY and the moment we do were get shamed and ostracized as too much as if we only fit into there representation of what a women should be. I love being sexy, smart, hardworking and hot as hell all at the same damn time and no one should ever be made to feel ashamed i think women are just better multitaskers and it confuses men so they try to control the narrative

I say this with love but I'm commenting this whilst watching and I'm just waiting for Dizz to stop talking. This song, for me, was the biggest middle finger to all the times women are criticised for explicit content when male rappers can rap about whatever they like. This song is the definition of women owning their sexuality and wearing it with pride. Nobody is asking male rappers/artists to be role models for young boys yet, why should Cardi B and Megan be?

Everyone is missing the point. He's not saying there's anything wrong with women being comfortable with their sexuality, being raunchy or anything. He is calling attention to WOMEN OF COLOR and BLACK WOMEN - in the entertainment industry, this is the only role that's chosen for them. In the 90s, early 2000s we were grateful to have Aaliyah, Brandy, Monica and even Ciara and Destiny's Child - all different types from different walks of life giving you different imagery and personality. And we had the Lil Kims, Trinas and Khias co-existing happily in the same world. Now, it's only the Love & Hip Hop, I rap and I fuck type of model. Women CAN be sexual and feminist and all that but when it comes to black women surviving and rising in this industry they should be given all different types of roles because everyone else get to do it. Normani is super talented and there should be no reason she isn't on Arianna Grande's level but the industry only will let black women shine unless it's a certain type of model now.

The Problem is the Trend of Music, There are mostly Black Male Rappers like DaBaby that are in the TOP 10, if you look at Billboard Hot 100, Cardi B, Megan Thee Stallion, Saweetie fit the Trend of Music, Sonically it is the style of the music that is Hot right now, also do you guys forget about Lizzo, Chloe & Halle, H.E.R. etc.... there are so much more Black Female Artists that are Killing it, I don’t know why people just like to hate. The people who stream it and buy it, consume it is the one who hold responsibility, not the Artist, it’s us listeners who are in charge of putting different kind of Artists to the top.

Like Cardi said before there’s plenty of rappers who’s content is more conscious and less “raunchy” and “sexy” but people don’t support those artist and the media don’t push those artist as much. In the words of Tee Noir "It's not that men don't like the expression of female sexuality, it's the only form of expression that they're willing to accept are ones that preserve space for their dominance." Women are taking back their sexuality, using the word whore for them is not as offensive as it once was. That word was used against women to degrade them. So it's natural for men to feel offended or uncomfortable or feel it's inappropriate for their "daughters" . They feel like they need to take control of women's sexuality when it's a woman being sexually expressive, and need to control how a women should express herself. When a man raps about pussy or raps about dick... it's okay. Men applaud it and I don't hear people saying "it's not what my son should aspire to be" But when a woman talks about her WAP... it's like "hide your kids, hide your wife". I am 100% behind Monroe. You may not be the target demographic. People say "we are being fed" but you have a choice to what you consume.
