So $372.72/~2000 miles=$0.18636/mile Now I can usually go about 520 miles per tank in my 2011 chevy silverado 1500 WT pickup with 8 foot box and average 17-19 MPG on the highway. Using GasBuddy's online trip calculator it would cost me $368.04 to make the same trip. If I do my own calculation with the current fuel prices around my current area of $3.74 per gallon I get a total cost of $416 which is more inline with what I would expect. So really with the current prices they are charging at charge points along the way you aren't really saving much of anything. I could also likely do the same trip in my car for around half the price.

Good luck. No idea your calculations. I have a 2016 Ram 1500 Hemi 4wd that averages 20 mpg. It’s about 2k miles Boston to Denver. My math says that’s 100 gallons of regular. Price now even at $4.00/gallon would total $400. I suggest that is, in both convenience and raw numbers, a far sight better than the EV. Plus, my truck is a bunch larger and more comfortable than the Rivian which is a mid size. Good test. I applaud your guts and patience. I would’ve taken my 12 gauge 870 Remington to it.

Your right the whole thing doesn’t make much sense at highway prices for electric. I wonder what it would cost local driving charging from your home ? Not to mention 15,000 for a battery when that wears out.

If you stop at a restaurant or coffee shop, buy an alarm timer. You may get the unpleasant shock of paying an extra $20 or more, just because the car finished lunch before you did.

Jarrod great video! When you’re ready... DM me when you want to come to Normal, Illinois. A lot has been happening here sense I last message you. Living 2 miles from, and friends/family working at the plant is a cool position to be. So when ready, and you want to tour the plant, I’m sure you’d be able to have arrangements to do so. Rivian loves publicity as well as Heartland community college is the only college to teach EV technology repair. Heartland is near the plant as well. I go to the woods here in New Mexico often...WTF do you do to charge it when you are hunting in the middle of nowhere...until they figure that out its gonna be a hard sell for most real truck owners.

While the whole trip is going to interest me, I can tell you a 6-8 foot tall trailer will neatly cut your mileage in half. And the Tesla app told me a highway trip would take me over 26.5 hours--assuming fast chargers were waiting and working--while the AAA app told me it would be 21 hours. Plus less than 1/2 hour for me to tank up four times. Making a long two day drive into three days for me. (I can't safely do 18 hour drives.)

Independent entrepreneurs opened gas stations all over the country, EV charging stations are largely dependent on government which is a big difference.

I'll hang on to my gasoline engine vehicle until all these issues are addressed which will take a while. This gives me time to still get my dream sports car. Also, I remember filling up my truck with 87 octane fuel for $40 two years ago!

As you point out, it’s important to remember the variables that affect driving range. When you’re going from east to west, generally you’re on a constant slight uphill grade, and normally have headwinds. So basically, one can expect to do even better in the efficiency apartment going from west to east. Interesting video, looking forward to the next one.

man you're doing it wrong... charge up to 80sh % (Usually when it plummets charge speed rate) and go. OR the better thing is to charge only as much as you need to get to the next charger. Follow that and you'll be golden. If you're not in a rush then drag behind a Semi truck as much as you could. Your efficiency will shoot up dramatically.

I estimate my mileage for my RAM PROMASTER CITY that I live in with a few hundred pounds of stuff. Your getting the same cost and mileage that I get. That is 27 mpg at $5 per gallon. If you had a lite weight tiny home in your box you would be somewhat adventurous with a more all terrain vehicle and more space.

Government is subsidizing these EV charging stations and the EV companies are required to keep them maintained and working. Unfortunately 75% of these EV charging networks are not working and it takes weeks if not months to fix them. The cyber truck is looking like a better purchase for now. I drove 2,000 miles in a refreshed 2022 Model X and paid $210 total.

The breakdown was good to learn about. But if I'm totally being honest I didn't feel entertained nor educated. The interior of the vehicle looks nice. Also From watching so many of your other videos, it felt like you were a caged tiger 🐅. That fire in your eye when you talk about stealth camping, overlanding, van life, tiny homes, etc, was missing. Can't wait until your done with your obligation with this EV. Like you said it's much like when cars just came out and there were just a few gas stations. ⛽ The average car fills up between with $40-$50 bucks and gets 300+ miles to the tank. Pickups and SUVs maybe $65-$100+ and gets 300-600 miles on a tank. All like the ev, depends on tank size, driving habits, and conditions. I felt my brain go numb & 😴 💤 on this point. 😆 sorry Well looking forward to your build series 👍 please let the tiger out!

You remind me of me when I was younger. I used to take trips down I95 from NJ to VA and DC, then head back home just for kicks and giggles way back when. I don't think you've mentioned it before, does it "feel" any different driving an EV, or do you drive it just like your F250?

what a waste of time. hopefully the second version of Eevee vehicles will feature batteries that you just unplug and then plug in and go. the gas station could be more of a battery exchange or rental stop. this is ridiculous you got to hang out for like an hour or two? at least they should create businesses around that with entertainment and food while you're forced customer. honestly, the whole idea is pretty stupid if you ask me. I guess the car should be the exchange. you just rent a car and then when you get to the next gas station you get into a new car that's fully charged.

It’s so interesting how i remember growing up for the past 35 years commercials advertising all asking to “save power” now they want to use more power which in turn makes power plants work harder. Which there are so many diff types and they still use gas, and massive amounts of chemicals that affect “the environment” for those environmental people. This electric is not helping the economy nor the atmosphere for less gas production and needs. Biden has this all backwards. His plans to have everyone more regulated on not producing gas vehicles by 2024. I can see the benefits of electric but not everyone going electric.

Not enough charging stations electric prices going up big time and your time is money. Your not saving anything. Don't forget you can only be fixed at dealership exclusive Rights. You can keep that electric garbage mine can be fixed in any garage with out waiting up to 2 weeks for an appointment. Break down on highway and you can be stuck there for weeks.😭😳🙈

Ps I can go philly to Florida in 19 hrs . Straight through so if you tryed to follow me you would get there over 7 hrs later time is money I make minium of 500 a day so I would loose like 400. Minimal look at all that money saved on electric not. Plus your tires burn out faster heavy car. Let's say you work 8 hrs you drive 2 hrs total to work a day no charger at home your 10 hr day is now 11 hrs. If there's a storm and power down enjoy car camping . Also bad weather enjoy being stuck charging watching lightning rain wind ma be you have to charge but a tornado commin at you lol . In fl after hurricane enjoy walking home.

So you drove for about the same price as others who use gas. How did you pay for road tax? Gasoline has federal excise tax to pay for roads. Wait until tax man bills you per mile driven. The money will have to come from somewhere. Like all things "green" they really are not and the hazardous waste from these batteries are a big problem much like solar panels and wind tubine props. No plans on how to handle the waste from all of it. 67k for any vehicle is too much in my opinion and I really do not like the design of this. A little bit ugly in the front imo.
